1225: LION 21 over to ADW Tower for the Navy side...to land on the right...standby gear....349.0

Lion 21 was more then likely VFA-213 F/A-18F from Oceana. Especially considering he went to the Navy side.

Trend 81 Flight Of 6 To Willow Grove Tower, A-10's Coming Home From There Deployment All For The Break And Landed, With Out Incident The Only Thing Left Is The C-17's And Maybe The 757 With The Rest Of There Personal.

Just went up and saw them quickly, had them with Philly Approach on 291.7 and 126.85. Came in two flights of 3. All were the ID ANG planes. So there are still more out there. The personel is due in tomorrow nite around 845 pm, as I have a friend on that flight and wrote me in an email. That should be the the chartered flight.

Nice pics! You don't see A-10's very often with that center extended range fuel tank.
Guess the MD ANG A-10 Raven 175th guys have taken over some of the work over there.

So what's been happening this evening? No one heard anything? I was near a radio just long enough to catch a Brazilian Air Force VC-96, tail 2115 come into the area just prior to 2100. His flight was BRS 2115. A VC-96 is nothing but a Boeing 737. It's this one...

Brian, I've got to say those were some fantastic pictures you took of the ID-ANG arriving at Willow Grove. Perhaps someone will catch them as they leave there for home - I'd guess about now (1100) is a good takeoff time. I don't think they'd leave too early after that long trip yesterday.

Just prior to 1100, A-10s from Martin State are working interflight 142.3.

1107: Have A-10s up with Philly TRACON but can't hear a callsign yet...319.15 (It's TREND 81, 190th Fighter Squadron, ID-ANG Boise heading home. They arrived at Willow Grove yesterday.)
1109: Same guys with ZNY-Pottstown climbing from 13 to 17.000 feet and requesting direct Ravine...278.3
1110: Interflight freq for the TREND 81 A-10s...138.95
1113: TREND 81 flight of six A-10s handed off to ZNY-Philipsburg and check in...they get altitude block 180 to 200...306.2
1114: TREND 81 flight leader asking ZNY if they have a BLUE 31 working....306.2 (BLUE 31 was their KC-10A tanker while coming in from Europe...don't know if it's the same aircraft today or if it'll be a KC-135.)
They are quickly going to be out of my range. Dave, you listening? Coming right toward you for AR.
1120: TREND 81 still talking on interflight....138.95 (getting too weak to understand though)
1123: TREND 81 asksing ZNY if they can do a 360 here while awaiting the tanker....306.2
1124: TREND 81 splitting into two groups of three as they await the tanker...138.95
1126: BLUE 31 (KC-10A, 85-0033, 305th AMW McGuire) is airborne climbing out of McGuire.
1130: TREND 81 just mentioned a freq for the AR that I couldn't hear...306.2 Anyone get it?
1135: TREND 81 still yakking about the AR on interflight...138.95 (And I haven't found the AR freq yet)
1140: Believe I found the AR freq....236.75
And they flew out of range during the refueling op so this is all I've got for them.

1136: There's a DRAGO 51-55 five-ship flight landing at Andrews w/Tower...349.0
1144: The DRAGO flight was not landing - just working with Tower for approaches...now heading to Nottingham to hold (for the flyby)...349.0
One of the DRAGOs - 55 - might have landed and the rest to OTT for the hold.
1205: DRAGO 51 advising ADW Tower they'll be ready to RTB after (?something?)...349.0
1211: DRAGO 51 reports initial for runway 1R...349.0

1210: SAM 1759 (C-20B, 86-0203, 99th AS Andrews) heading for ADW runway 1L...then told he has to use 1R and says he didn't see anything in the NOTAMs about 1L being closed. Asks if it just popped up....anyway, he's going to 1R, like it or not...128.35
1212: SAM 1759 to ADW Tower for landing runway 1R...118.4

Early in the 1100 hour, a C-32B, tail 00-9001 from the 227th SOF, NJ-ANG McGuire was up with another new callsign. They used to use TERRA almost exclusively. Last week I caught one using BIGGY 71. Today it's TORN 81. Don't know yet if they're going to use one time callsigns or if this is just another one for the unit along with BIGGY. In any case, I'm adding it to my callsign database.

1149: Confirmed that the AR Freq is 236.75. TREND 81 is a flight of six and they were still using the 138.95 A2A. Less chatty now that they are refueling.
Thanks for that confirmation Dave. I found it just as they were getting completely out of range but knew it had to be them. For once, it was easy to confirm six aircraft in the flight since they kept counting off on the 138.95 interflight freq. Now all we need is for the PA-ANG A-10s to return since they went over with the Idaho gang. I would expect them soon - within the next day or so.

Hey Tin,

1149: Confirmed that the AR Freq is 236.75. TREND 81 is a flight of six and they were still using the 138.95 A2A. Less chatty now that they are refueling.
1200: All aircraft in the TREND flight have refueled and they are continuing on their way home. Seems like the fully fueled A-10s are having trouble keeping up with the tanker. They will be cruising at 315 knots indicated airspeed.

Good luck on the way home guys!

I think I just had a revelation. :) I thought the TREND flight mentioned was a flight returning from Iraq, but I'm thinking that it's the flight from yesterday heading home to ID (same callsign as yesterday). Or....was I right? Anyone.......throw me a bone !?!?!?

brian

Yes Brian, this flight was headed back to Idaho. I was hoping that they would pass some tail numbers but I didn't hear any.

Ok, please don't even pay any attention to the space this part of post takes up. Today I'm an idiot. I apologize :)

brian

PS - I have been told that only 4 PA A-10s actually went over, the rest were ID's. Guess we'll see them tomorrow.

Dave, I have tail numbers for 4 of the jets, which I passed along to Tin. The other two I video taped so I will check that out later today and see if I can get them for you guys. I will post them later.

Ok, so I couldn't make out the last two that I had on video, however, depending on if I can catch the rest of them coming in and get a look at their numbers, I might be able to figure out the two I missed from yesterday. Here's was did come in that I got:

81-0955
78-0618
78-0611
78-0624

I'll wait to see the others and then hopefully we can figure the rest out.

BLUE 31, the McGuire KC-10A that accompanied the TREND 81 flight back to Boise, returned to McGuire just prior to 1700. Guess the six A-10s made it home.

1647: German Air Force - GAF 429, A-310, tail 10+21, overhead the area heading northeast
1653: Royal Air Force - ASCOT 2101, VC-10, tail XV104, 101 Squadron into McGuire.
1716: SPAR 184 (C-40C, 05-0932, 73rd AS Scott AFB IL) lands at Andrews. (I only mention this because I don't think I've ever heard a SPAR with a 3-digit suffix prior to this.)
SPAR 184 departs Andrews at 1830.
1748: E-6B, 164404, VQ-4 noted over the Delaware Bay at FL 240 on heading 200 degrees.

1815: Have a U/I C-130 going into Willow Grove...he was with WG Base Ops on 306.8. Reported 10 minutes out, will need 33,000 pounds of fuel.
If anyone up that way can get an ID on this guy, with tail number, I'd sure appreciate it. Didn't hear his callsign, just suffix 1. Thought I heard SPUD but it was blocked by noise from a couple of other radios just as he said it.

Just pulled into my house and saw him on approach. Noticed it wasn't one of the Navy or regular C-130s. No camera, but saw a red/maroon tail flash. Not a J model. Just heard the same as you as he was parking, something 1 on the radio, as I tried to catch him. Sorry. Hopefully we can get an ID when he's out of there.

19:40 - Guard 097 (helo-most likely a Blackhawk) with Willow Grove Tower (340.2 and 119.6) landing. Has no idea where to go on the base. They give him directions to the Air Force Ramp after he mistakenly is at the Navy ramp. Tower mentions the 757 will be parking on the Air Force ramp as well.

This should be most of the PA ANG 111th FW coming home. Expected at 2030. Welcome home everyone!

DC-ANG F-16s off from Andrews just before 2000. BULLY flight of four and WILD single ship. BULLY flight on 139.15 for interflight. Freq progression has been TRACON 348.725, TRACON 317.425, ZDC-Swann 360.7, ZDC-Coyle 254.3, Giant Killer 255.0 to enter W-107 on Event #2102. BULLY flight to GK at 2011 and WILD at 2014. BULLY 2 is the female pilot. The five F-16s are scheduled to work until 0130Z which should mean a refueling will take place.
2016: BULLY flight changing to 337.225 for their work.
2019: WILD single ship changing to 337.225

I got of quick glimpse of Guard 097 in the twilight and it was a CH-47 Chinook.

AM TRAM 8469 Heavy (B757) landed at ~2040 ; good to see the 111th home safe and sound.

2123: E-6B, 164404, VQ-4 just called SHADOW at Patuxent and said they'd be in in about 20 minutes. He's currently east of FDK and just turning to the south. He's having a long, chatty conversation with the guys at SHADOW Maintenance...at 2126 he says he's got to run the check list now and will give them a holler when he hits the deck...he's also beginning his descent as he makes the turn to the south...310.15

Cool, thanks. I just saw lights way off in the distance, came almost directly from the east, no where near the 3 mile final to 33.

This afternoon at Gravelly Point:
1649: -125.05- GERMAN AIR FORCE 429 Heavy vectors out of IAD to the NE. To 125.65.
1704: -118.95- JEDI? 01 (1x EA-6B seen) dep ADW, vectored W
1706: -378.1- SPAR 184 (C-40 USA c/s seen) will need 10K fuel, and can release >20 seats back to Scott. It's a quick turn, so they want the pax out on the hour. CP responds they have 3 takers who will be out on the ramp at 45 past.
1711: -349.0- BULLY 4 (1x F-16 seen) wants a low approach
1734: -349.0- BULLY 1, BULLY 2, BULLY 3 (I saw 1 and 3, both 1xF-16) for landing.
1736: -349.0- SCARY 1 (1xF-16) 8 miles south for the initial.
And that was it until 1815-ish, when NAVY 7C 7-something (IDed by ATC as a C-12) came over AML with vectors to ADW. 119.85 to 119.3.

Possibly 87-00097? According to the Chinook helos website, this is a CT ARNG helo.

http://www.chinook-helicopter.com/history/aircraft/D_Models/87-00097/87-00097.html

While working up near Reading and Hamburg, PA today, I managed to catch some of the ID ANG A-10 comms on the ATC frequencies.

Also heard the following today:

11:17 Army 23328 (79-23328, UH-60A ?) on Harrisburg APP 126.450 inbound for landing.
11:20 Yankee 62 on Harrisburg APP 126.450 inbound for landing.
14:15 Jena 56 (prob. FBI ops) working Philly APP 123.800.
14:20 Navy JT 050 with Philly APP 123.800 requesting landing pattern for KNXX.
