Jay Dehm over on Scan-DC reports that 143.8 is the chit chat freq - that suggest the 77th FS has the duty this time (that's their V-8 freq). 73s Mike

The new pair, PITMAN 35/36 using 139.925 for tac/chat while 33/34 stayed on 143.8 to chat their way home. (139.925 possibly preset V-12)

I had copy on the CAP early today from a hill just west of Hartford, Connecticut. It lasted about five minutes and then faded away as I started down into a valley. Then the roads leading to New York just had too much traffic to play with the radio any longer.

These guys from the 77th FS at Shaw seem to talk a lot more than the 79th did when it was their turn.

2005: PITMAN 35 refueling from TANKER 16 on boom freq 228.9. 35's tail number is 97-108.
PITMAN 35 confirms they are from the 77th Fighter Squadron, 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw AFB. TANKER 16 confirms his tail number is 60-0328 and that they are from the 931st Air Refueling Group at McConnell AFB KS. He also told PITMAN 35 that SKATER 07, the previous tanker, was from the 108th ARW at McGuire which confirms something I had been guessing at. Our callsign database shows SKATER to be at Bangor ME but I had always caught SKATER 07 going back to McGuire when done in the CAP. Changing my callsign list to reflect this.
2014: PITMAN 36 heading for TANKER 16 to refuel on 228.9. TANKER 16 did not ask for his tail number when refueling was completed at 2023.

2123: PITMAN 35 back to TANKER 16 for more gas on 228.9
Based on messages from listeners in the area of Shaw that say they've heard PITMAN fighters spell their callsign on ATC freqs several times, I've changed my spelling to just one "T" from the way I had been spelling it as in Pittman Nevada.
2127: PITMAN 36 to TANKER 16 for a topoff. «228.9»
2136: While on tac 139.925, PITMAN 35/36 indicate the CAP will end early tonight as it has over the past couple...I'm guessing at 11 p.m. and this pair will have it until the end. They said they can't believe another tanker is on the way (considering he'll only be on station for about an hour.)

2233: PITMAN 35 to TANKER 16 for final refueling...says he'll only need 1,000 pounds. «228.9» They should get their total offload for the entire flight this time from the tanker.
2238: PITMAN 35 takes his 1,000 pounds and is told he took 11,600 pounds during his flight. «228.9» Over on tac 139.925, PITMAN 36 decides he doesn't need anymore fuel. 35 tells him to go to boom freq and find out his total offload. He does...TANKER 16 tells him he took 11,400 pounds today. «228.9»
2231: PITMAN 35 tells HUNTRESS they are done with the tanker tonight. «260.9» (Hint to let the tanker go home. HUNTRESS doesn't bite.)
2248: PITMAN 35 to Center on 135.525 but not joy after a couple of calls. Wants to start working his clearance back to Shaw.
2250: TANKER 16 to 135.525 to get his clearance...says in about 5 minutes he'll be leaving.
2251: Guard Dog calling PITMAN 35 on 135.525 but 35 is with HUNTRESS on 260.9 complaining that he has no contact on 135.525 so doesn't hear Guard Dog calling.
2254: TANKER 16 told to RTB by HUNTRESS on 260.9 and goes to 135.525 to pick up his clearance. Guard Dog tells him to maintain FL 250 direct Morgantown.
2255: Guard Dog clears TANKER 16 to FL 350 and gives his routing to Wichita.
2255: PITMAN 35 asks Guard Dog for his clearance to Shaw and does it on ZDC-Swann freq 360.7. He's told to stand by so Guard Dog can work it up.
2256: TANKER 16 handed off to ZDC-Potomac 133.975 where he checks in at 29,500 climbing to 350
2259: PITMAN 35 gets his clearance direct Shaw at FL 250. «360.7»
2259: HUNTRESS clears PITMAN flight to RTB «260.9»
CAP IS DONE

2300: Guard Dog hands PITMAN flight off to Potomac TRACON 343.7 where they check in but call Washington Center. No one argues with them. (First gave them 269.5 and then changed it to 343.7)
PITMAN 35/36 still using 139.925 for chat as they work their way home.
2306: TANKER 16 handed off to 125.425 (Don't know who that belongs to...not following him)
2306: PITMAN 35/36 handed off to ZDC-Montebello 284.7 where they check in.
2311: PITMAN 35/36 sent to FL 220. «284.7»
2317: PITMAN 35/36 handed off to ZDC-South Boston 352.0 where they check in at FL 220.
And that's the end of my coverage and log for tonight.

Ramp Freeze at Andrews in effect 2315-2345

I don't have the time to listen much today but there seems to be a boatload of MilAir activity going on. The Philadelphia TRACON, Atlantic City Approach, Dover AFB freqs seem to all be busy with aircraft movements that are probably related to the Dover airshow practice. There were NOTAMs published about flight restrictions and activity related to it.

Also just heard a flight of four probable A-10s land at Andrews at 1252. Picked them up on TRACON freqs 322.3 and then 335.5 before switching to Tower on 349.0 to land. They were using callsign HOG which might make them from either Nellis AFB NV or Barnes ANGB MA.

There is also an AWACS using callsign GOLIATH operating with Giant Killer to the south, probably in area W-122 based on freq usage 251.6. There is also a group of fighters (sound like F-15s) on 288.4, a HUNTRESS freq, in ACM activity that is probably related to GOLIATH control.

The ZNY/ZDC Center freqs are also busy with aircraft movements.

1500: A flight of fighters (probably A-10s) coming down the coast with ZNY-Dixie 307.8 that sound like they're going to Warren Grove Range. No callsigns heard yet. They are at 15,500 feet and say their return trip will be at FL 210. There is also activity on tac freq 141.675 which may be the same flight.
1501: VA-ANG F-16s active on 141.825 tac.
1505: Leesburg Radio talking to PYLON 12 (Not in my database) on FSS freq 255.4 who is entering VR-042 at point "H"....can't hear the aircraft though probably because it's down so low to enter the low level flight route.
1535: AXEMAN flight of A-10s returning to Martin State with Tower on 121.3 for landing. Heard them with Dover on 257.875 and with ZDC-Cofield 323.0 a little earlier.
1538: RAVEN flight of four A-10s returning to Martin State with Tower on 121.3

Published NOTAMs for the Dover AFB airshow:
M0287/06 - DOVER AFB AIRSHOW OPERATIONS IN EFFECT. DOVER AFB PATTERN CLOSED. AEROBATIC/HIGH SPEED/LOW ALTITUDE/MULTILPE AIRCRAFT FORMATION FLIGHTS IN VICINITY OF DOVER AFB, SURFACE TO 15,000 FEET
04 OCT 19:00 UNTIL 04 OCT 20:00 (Zulu times)
05 OCT 18:30 UNTIL 05 OCT 20:30
06 OCT 16:00 UNTIL 06 OCT 21:00
07 OCT 15:00 UNTIL 07 OCT 21:00
08 OCT 15:00 UNTIL 08 OCT 21:00

L0131/06 - AIRSHOW CONTAINMENT AREA ENCOMPASSING SOUTH RAMP, TWY-E AND INFIELD AREA WEST OF APCH END RWY-32. USE CAUTION FOR SNOW FENCING, TENTS, AND MEN WORKING IN THIS AREA. MAKE ALL 180 DEGREE TURNS ON THE APPROACH END OF RWY-32 FROM LEFT TO RIGHT TO MINIMIZE JET BLAST 02 OCT 15:22 UNTIL 09 OCT 23:59

Since there is little activity at all in the Maine forum. I figure I'll share it here. I spent the last weekend in the Freeport, ME area. I didn't get to listen all that much but I did hear some activity from Brunswick NAS. Callsigns heard were TIGER-21 (possibly an E-2 from Norfolk, I know the E-2 is common at Brunswick plus they mentioned something about surveillance), LANCER-?? (visually confirmed as a P-3 while I was in Bath at the Maritime Museum) and BRAVO KILO 292 (could've been general aviation). All the comms were on VHF channels.

Then while on the way home I had a few hit on NORAD's 364.2 while in NE Massachusetts. Later around 1100 in CT there was some refueling activity on 295.8 AR631. I never caught the callsigns but I did hear that the tanker was returning to Albany. At the same time I had activity on 269.2 which I had listed as a HUNTRESS frequency, but it was clearly the Boston Center ground side that I was hearing. On the VHF side I matched it to the comes on 134.7.

Travis, I logged a couple of FIGHTING TIGER P-3s from Brunswick NAS last week that came down to the W-386 area to work with Giant Killer. I had an email from someone close to Brunswick who told me their P-3s use both that callsign and just plain old TIGER most of the time. So, that was probably who you heard if he was correct.

1802: Refueling activity on AR-636 primary freq 238.9
1800-1845: There has been activity down in area W-122 with Giant Killer on 251.6 but it's just too weak from here to copy
1849: REACH 7039 calling ???? Dispatch on 372.2. He wants to check NOTAMs for KNGU (Chambers Field, Norfolk)
1849: DC 23 (KC-135R 756th ARS Andrews) with Andrews on 378.1 and tells someone to change to 266.4
1850: DC 23 and DC 21 make contact on 266.4 (All they did was establish comms and nothing more.)
1852: REACH 7039 tells the ground station to read all the NOTAMs for KNGU and he'll pick out the ones he needs. (Ground probably didn't want to read all of them since there are a whole bunch about GPS service being out for various times. Every military base has the same group of NOTAMs that read like this one for KNGU....
GPS NON-PRECISION APPROACH MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE 05 OCT 06:50 UNTIL 05 OCT 07:51....They are for various times on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of October for all bases.)
1858: ROMAN 09 (F/A-18C VFA-106, NAS Oceana) with ZDC-Calvert 281.4
1859: ROMAN 09 handed off to ZDC-Bay 379.3 where he tries several times to check in at FL 250 before making contact.

1901: ROMAN 09 (now female voice) trying to make contact with ZDC-Bay on 379.3
1902: ROMAN 09 (male again) reports speed 310 knots. «379.3»
1908: ROMAN 09 handed off to ZDC-Woodstown 363.0 where he checks in at FL 250.
1914: ROMAN 09 told to descend to FL 200. «363.0»
1920: ROMAN 09 says he'll take a Victor freq for the handoff and is given 127.3. (Won't follow him there.)
1929: BATON 54 (EC-130J, 193rd SOG PA-ANG Harrisburg) with Baton Ops on «395.1» to ask that Ops contact Giant Killer to let him know they won't be there tonight (probably means to area W-107 where he often works). Says he's 60 miles out (from Harrisburg.)
1932: BATON 54 says he's A-3 for a banging noise in the rear (which is probably why he's headed for home rather than to Giant Killer's area.). «395.1»
1932: ROMAN 51 (F/A-18 VFA-106 NAS Oceana) with ZDC-Woodstown «363.0» reporting at FL 250.
1936: ROMAN 51 repeats that he's cleared to descend via the ?COREY?-3 arrival. «363.0» (ROMAN 09 reported the same thing but I didn't even have a hint of what he said at that time. Sounds like COREY-3)
1938: ROCCO 62 (KC-135 108th ARW McGuire AFB) with Atlantic City Approach at 8000 feet and descending. «124.6»
1940: ROCCO 62 cleared down to 7000 feet direct Coyle and then McGuire. «124.6» (Over the next couple of minutes there was an open mic on 303.0 which is their squadron freq so it might have been him.)
1955: SAM 0714 with Andrews Approach on 119.3 and then at 1956 with ADW Tower 118.4 where he reports 10 miles out for the ILS to runway 19L for full stop landing.
1959: Refueling freq 228.0 active (Primary for AR-777) One aircraft slowing to 250 knots since he's about 4 minutes early for the IP...the other aircraft is accelerating to 340 to get there on time. Flight level 210 is being used for the AR.

This would be the KORRY3 arrival into LGA. http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0610/00289KORRY.PDF
VFA-106 was the unit for the F-18 flyby at Yankee Stadium last night. The flyby at Shea this afternoon was apparently PA ANG A-10s ex Willow Grove.

Thanks Mateo. I looked up every spelling of KORRY (but with a C) that I could find on Airnav and couldn't come up with the correct one. Those fixes can be tricky spelling even when you hear it correctly if you're not familiar with an area.

P.S. I just listed my Uniden BCD996T and ARC996PRO package in the For Sale thread at a pretty good price if anyone from this area is interested. It's programmed with a scad of trunked systems and conventional public safety and MilAir freqs for this area which will give you a head start while learning how to use that amazing beast of a scanner.

And a heads up for this area. Tomorrow I'm going to list my Icom R75 for sale on that thread. It's like new and perfect operationally and cosmetically. It also includes the UT-106 DSP option that sells for $140 installed. It covers the HF range and beyond up to 60 mHz. I have three of them but now I just bought an Icom R8500-12 so something has to go. I'm going to list the R75 for $475 including shipping. Take a look at:

THUNDERBIRD 8 paid a visit to Dover this afternoon around 1510 local in
prep for this weekend's airshow there.
A couple survey passes with appch 257.8750 real strong reception here
