Actually we discussed this freq back in March.

Yes, we sure did Travis. I forgot about that.

And come to find out that Paul made the change to the database when we talked about it so as Gilda Radner (was she the one?) used to say.....Nevermind.

(10/07) Andrews Tower seems to be fairly busy tonight..

Andrews Tower seems to be fairly busy tonight.. unfort. I am VHF only and all the activity is on the UHF side and I can barely hear the tower on 118.4. I can hear that it's english and he's talking to planes but I can't make out any callsigns.

All who want to donate a UHF-mil capable scanner feel free to private message me =) =)

Ill keep an ear out on VHF side as always..

Jay it's not necessary to have a new scanner for milair - there are many used scanners that can serve the purpose - even a tired old 895 - with the right software - is a very effective UHF milair scanner (it doesn't support 138-144 mhz in AM mode). I've seen 895s for as little as USD125 or even less.

The 2055, 97 and the 898 can all be found under USD250 rather easily in the new category. The 780 can be had for somewhat less, and that's widely considered the best milair scanner ever made.

Of course, the antenna is the other side of the equation. Up in the air and fed with good coax will help bring in the sigs a lot clearer.

Our Wiki can be used to research this topic very effectively. 73s Mike

Hi Jay,

Mike's absolutely right - and speaking of the PRO-97, it's on sale right now through 10/14 for $150.

Tony

Tony: Thanks for the tip. I went to RS the other day and couldn't find a magnetic door switch for an alarm system. But I guess they are still good for something. I take it that that is a GRE scanner? Last GRE scanner I had was the old 2004, what a great scanner that was!

Shout out to TinEar: Got those freqs loaded that you posted, I'm hearing a lot of Pot App and Tracon, also hear Andrews and SAM control. Haven't heard much NORAD/CAP stuff or Giant Killer but I have it in 2 scanners now and I'll keep monitoring.

Thanks to both of you!

I was at work over at Landover Mall today and I saw 2 of the THUNDERBIRDS flying over. It was neat to watch them flying over but to bad my camera phone pictures barely show them in the sky.

No doubt about it Mark.

1701: T-BIRD 7 (used T-BIRD, not THUNDERBIRD) coming out of Andrews on TRACON 348.725
1704: T-BIRD 7 handed off to ZDC-Calvert 281.4 where he checks in at 11,000 feet and says he's going to restricted area R-4006. He's scheduled for an hour there but says he's only going to use about 25 minutes of that.
1707: T-BIRD 7 handed off to Patuxent Advisory on 305.2 where he checks in at 11,000 feet, cancels IFR and states he'll be going back to Andrews when done in 20-25 minutes.
There has been no indication this is more than a single aircraft in the flight.
1730: T-BIRD 7, while on 305.2 with Pax, is told to switch to Pax freq 250.3.
1734: T-BIRD 7 handed off by Pax on 250.3 to TRACON 335.5 where he switches and checks in at 4000 feet....descend to 3,000 feet at 1737, 18 miles out from Andrews....at 1738 reports field in sight...switching to tower
1738: T-BIRD 7 to ADW Tower reports field in sight, straight in to runway 1L. «349.0»
1741: T-BIRD 7 reports gear down, heading for runway 1L. «349.0»
That was short and sweet.

1828: CAPE 11 (Prob. F-15 101st FS, Otis ANGB, MA) with ZNY-Harrisburg 270.3 checking in at FL 270
1833: CAPE 11 with ZNY-Parke 339.8 FL 270
1838: CAPE 11 handed to ZNY-Yardley 290.2 and checks in at FL 270
1840: CAPE 11 handed to ZNY-Kennedy 282.3 where he once again checks in at FL 270 and makes a course correction for traffic in the vicinity. (Last heard)
1855: HOIST 93 (KC-10A 2/32nd ARS, McGuire AFB) to McGuire Metro 239.8 asking for McGuire weather at 2330Z which is his arrival time. He attempts contact several times before getting his wx report.

1906: HOIST 93 to Atlantic City Approach on 124.6 to report passing through 9800 for 8000 feet passing Sea Isle
1907: HOIST 93 cleared direct Coyle, direct McGuire «124.6» (booming)
1907: HOIST 93 calling McGuire CP on 319.4. No joy. (barely readable)
1910: HOIST 93 cleared to 7,000 feet. «124.6»
1930: SAM (0)774 landing at Andrews with Tower on 118.4
1931: SAM 0774 reports gear down...118.4 (He goes around once and then reports gear down again at 1937)
1936: Refueling activity on 341.75...no callsigns heard yet...they are shooting for an IP at 11 past the hour...just one end being heard.
1942: The two players for refueling on 341.75 are REACH 915 (C-17A, tail #95-00104 from the 437th AMW, Charleston AFB SC) and ETHYL 13 (KC-135 97th AMW, Altus AFB, OK)

2002: REACH 915/ETHYL 13 report in a 30 mile trail. (Over the next few minutes they just chat about various unimportant things as they approach the IP.)
2041: FENDY 15 landing Andrews with Tower 118.4
Only listing I have for this callsign is for a C-20A, 76TH AS Ramstein AB Germany

2107: PETRO 04 (U/I tanker) with McGuire CP on 319.4 giving arrival message...30 minutes out, A-2

For Andrews: (Zulu times)
AIR TERMINAL RAMP FREEZE 10 OCT 00:10 UNTIL 10 OCT 00:40 (Tonight 2010-2040)
AIR TERMINAL RAMP FREEZE 10 OCT 18:40 UNTIL 10 OCT 19:10

Just a couple heard today while at Dulles:

1700-hour: -126.1 Potomac Approach- GERMAN AIR FORCE [I forget the number] (C160 50+09 seen) descending for IAD 1R. To 125.8 and 120.1
1803: -119.85 Potomac Approach- NAVY JU 126 (C-9 seen) descending for ADW
1840: -119.85- SAM 0750 (C-37 white scheme seen) descending for ADW

Ref FENDY: Heard FENDY 4, which was a C-40 in USA c/s, arriving at Andrews about 2 weeks ago. As far as I know, there are no C-40s assigned to USAFE, but I'll gladly be proven wrong.

Also, just to confirm a contact from yesterday, Thunderbird 8 departed DOV late in the 1300 hour to "go on to the next city," which just happens to be Washington for the aforementioned dedication on Friday/Saturday.

Good afternoon everyone,
I have a little action in the DUKE MOA with some Willow Grove A-10s that will be headed back down your way, maybe you can catch their return.

Had UGLY 1 & 2, CADE 1 & 2, and SLUFF 62 (KC-135 Rickenbacker) doing some refuelling work. UGLY flight using 34.75 A2A and CADE flight using 143.25 A2A. UGLY and CADE talking to each other on 141.80. Refuelling work on 301.60 (DUKE Primary).

1427: UGLY flight was exiting the area contacting ZOB-Wayland on 353.85 they were descending to 15,000 and headed to direct ETX, Yardley (sp?), and the Willow Grove.
1429: UGLY flight pushes 17 and contacts ZNY on 338.30.
1433: CADES are done and contact ZOB on 353.85 requesting direct IFR to Willow Grove.

Tail Nos:
UGLY 2: 80-0196
CADE 1: 78-0692
CADE 2: 80-0214

Multiple ELTs yesterday, 10/09/2006

Anybody have Coast Guard Freq's?

A side note, I monitored multiple frequencies and heard reports of at least 3 inctances of pilots reporting an ELT signal on guard frequency. In many cases, pilots would report the signal one after another as they checked in to ATC. Strange...

You won't see Customs Blackhawks on scene anymore, the US Coast Guard has assumed the air interdiction portion for low speed violators of the NCR as of late September.

NIGHTHAWK-12 with Mt. Weather Tower on 241.0.
Not sure what he's doing, too much feedback to hear, also noted by the tower.

WILD flight has been working Pax on 143.6.
