1305 CAFE 23 on Boston Ctr 124.520 says completed our AR and going to Syracuse. Could be next group of 52nd FW F-16's coming in today as HURON 91.
1325 A/A 143.475 1,2,4,6. One pilot talking he once did Noble Eagle duty in this area before.
1330 HURON 91 req direct Shaw 257.700
Supposed to flight of 6 but departing Europe one Huron developed engine trouble and did emergency divert to Leuchars RAF base in Scotland and one wingman went along as well.
1333 HURON flight pushes 327.800

Belated FWIWs on the HURONs:

FRI

HURON 71 hit ZBW Hampton sector around 1330L - their interplane [138.025] was brief and rather weak

HURON 81 hit ZBW Hampton sector around 1419L
CAFE 31 cld McGuire Metro @ 1416L on wrong freq [372.200], then got correct frq [239.800] and asked for WX @ Shaw for 2045Z/1545L

SAT

HURON 91 hit ZBW Hamopton sector around 1306L, although I caught the A2A [143.475] about 4min earlier.
CAFE 41 clg McGuire on 319.400 looking for cust/ag in 30min
CAFE 23 was looking for routing to MSP [Minn-St. Paul] RDR [Grand Forks], so I guess they were 319ARW. I know they were with HURON 91 FLT but I didn't see CAFE 23 mentioned on other boards.

I could hear all three HURON flights chk in w/ZDC [281.450] but not much after that.

1358 A/A 246.800 at FL 280 asking if we are in Continental airspace.I don't think they are MD ANG choppers.
says his ground speed is 330.Yakking like Marine Corp pilots with salty language.
Says with Wash Ctr and asks trailer to come up on Ch 29X-Ray which is 246.800.
Trying to stay out in warning areas to get direct Jax sounded like.Maybe Navy P-3's

Mark, I had them also. They started out on 303.000 and someone kicked them off. I was wondering if they were P-3s from KNHZ Brunswick making the move to JAX. Sounded like 3, possibly 4 a/c in trail.

I know one of them was Navy LK 11 ..... also heard ref to TRIDENT

Guys,

In case some of you might be interested--the following was posted on the Scan-DC list:

From Mackbolan05 on the RR DC forum;

==========================================
One freq to listen on is 168.8750 P25 NAC 653, this has been
referred to as c-tac, which I guess is common tactical, and I have
heard several different agencies using this freq, FBI, ATF, PARK
POLICE, ETC. It seems to be a repeater and it is usually not
encrypted.

FYI, that is one of the "25 Cities Project" Federal Interoperability
repeaters in the Washington DC area. Keep an ear on the others as well:

DCIO1 - 159.15000, N653
DCIO2 - 168.87500, N653
DCIO2 N - 173.75000, N653
DCIO2 S - 168.08750, N653
DCIO2 W - 166.78750, N653

Hi guys

Ron and I have been discussing Andrews freqs, and we had questions about any freqs still in operation for VR-1, VR-48 and VR-53.

I had only 385.2000 for VR-48 Skyliner Base but not sure if this freq is still in operation or not? Nothing for VR-1 or VR-53 specifically.

Are most of the ops for VR-1, VR-48 and VR-53 covered by 362.900 now or are we missing ops action for these units on separate freqs?

Raf Awacs

Guys,

Just had one of the Royal Air Force:E3D AWACS Aircraft ZH101, RAF Waddington on HF ALE. He was working w/Lajes so he might be headed over this way or on his way back from Carribean deployment. Don't know which was he's going.

But if he's coming this way he should enter up the East Coast and will probably work his way down to Curacao.

Tony, that's an interesting question. I've only heard those units operating on the Navy Ops freqs - both UHF and VHF - and nowhere else. It might be worth a bit of searching though to see if they're using unit freqs. I can't tell you the last time I heard 385.2 which I'm sure is either changed or gone since the LMR era began.

Greg, I can't help you with that callsign. I don't have it either and haven't heard any of the fighter units from up this way operating today.

The only interflight freq I've heard active is 138.55 and that's someone from outside this area and could be associated with someone from down your way. Does that work for someone like Shaw?

Edit: Hearing a couple of pilots chatting on 138.55 at 1225. One mentions he's at FL 340 currently over Westminster and wants to go to FL 380. Very loud and clear now as you'd expect but they don't sound like fighters in spite of the freq. Both aircraft report being at FL 340. If not fighters, the only aircraft I've got on Mode-S at FL 340 are two Delta aircraft (N950DL and N973DL) but they shouldn't be on this freq.
1234: One pilot on 138.55 reports according to his Garmin GPS the winds at FL 390 should be 20-30 knots lighter than at the current altitude. So, he's going to go check it out. (Not sure if that means climbing to FL 390 or going to check that wind report somewhere else.)
Lightbulb moment!!!!...Bet these are two 118th AS CT-ANG C-21s doing the chatting. I've got 84-0072 at that altitude now and 84-0124 (YANKEE 30 on display but not showing altitude) in the area.
1239: Proven...one of them calls "Center this is JOSA 953, request" but is still on 138.55. When the lightbulb came on was when I remembered the A-10s from the CT-ANG used to use 138.55 as an interflight freq and I guess these guys are claiming it as an interflight freq now that the C-21A fleet has replaced the A-10s.
1244: One of them calls to "Murph" and says he's now at FL 380 and winds are lighter and he's saving about 250 pounds of fuel. The other is going to complain when he gets back because his flight plan is about 800 pounds (of fuel) off from reality.
They agree all the flight plans were prepared on Friday when winds were apparently different. They also agree they should run their own flight plans on Monday morning...check FlightComm in the morning.
Mystery solved. Adding 138.55 to freq rotation again as 118th AS/103rd AW/CT-ANG Interflight. Sigh.

On the way out, heading SW just now passing the NE corner of Richmond. It's 164407.

DC-11 is heading towards Richmond. 133.9>133.825

Two FBI Cessnas are up, N212EB and N969JL.

1618- "67" with ZDC-Gordonsville want to go CAE direct CHS. No clue on the callsign.
TYravis,

"67" is the TACAMO---heard him say it twice w/ZDC (133.9) and still didn't get it.

Not familiar with that freq Ron. Hope you got a little from it while monitoring that NASA aircraft.

1848: Rather unusual....Just ran across REACH 8050 (C-17A, 98-0050, 62nd AW) working ZDC-Sea Isle on the UHF freq...281.45
*********************************

From the AF Times:
The Air Force is trying to develop a robot that can refuel parked F-35 Lightning II fighters and hopes to start demonstration testing in 2010.
As envisioned by the Air Force, an operator will be able to refuel a parked JSF by pushing a button on a control console several hundred feet away from
the fighter.
A moveable pipeline will follow the robot as it uses onboard sensors to steer itself to the jet. The guidance system will locate the fuel door,
attach the fuel nozzle and begin fueling. One operator will control several robots, and have the power to stop refueling if he spots trouble.

**********************************

The Air Force quietly stood up its provisional Global Strike Command at Bolling Air Force Base today — nine months prior to the scheduled
standup of the official command in September.

Sounds like a rebirth of the Strategic Air Command (SAC) and that sounds good to me. Now...if we could just bring back General LeMay.
