Paul, there is something wrong with that last link for the Omaha aircraft. Since that's causing the page to expand and the need to scroll, if you edit it out we'll be back to a normal page size - almost.

Dover flyby aircraft.

This afternoon TEXAS 91 flt of 2 and TEXAS 93 flt of 2 more arrived Dover AFB.No doubt will be doing flyby's at Dover for races this weekend.
I wasn't home to get VHF A/A but they arrived with Dover appch UHF freqs and Tower.
Here is what I have listed for that callsign....
TEXAS F16 ANG 182 FS/149 FW KELLY AFB TX

I once asked a fighter pilot how do these long distance ANG groups get assigned races like Dover even though there are lots of regional fighter squadrons around here.
He said they have to sign up with NASCAR early and whatever race they get assigned or openings for them so be it.
Dover gets the locals usually in the Fall race but in past 5 years Spring race has had B-1's from Louisiana,A-10's from Conn,F-16's from everywhere etc. Makes for a good variety.
Just once though would like to see 3 Dover C-5's in formation do a 800 foot buzz over the track.People in stands would be wetting themselves!

Paul, I only meant to remove that link since it wasn't working. I kept getting the message that the site couldn't be found. If you've got it fixed or replaced, by all means stick it back in there. I sure wasn't trying to be a censor.

It would appear that the old BWI tower 257.80 has been silent for a number of days now; anyone know where it's gone? Perhaps it's a victim of the milair realignment?

I noticed that too Mike but I haven't been able to find it. I've been searching 225-310 for most of the day today without a hit. Of course, it could be higher but I just picked that range to concentrate on.

On another note, the Blue Angles are up from about 18:35. Not sure what they're doing since the Dover show is over.
[Edit] Just saw a note elsewhere that says they are refueling and using freqs 289.8, 371.1, 139.875 and 284.25. I've been listening on the 284.25 freq..oops...just heard 371.1 also.

I checked IAP Instrument appch procedures for BWI at airnav.com and show no change for UHF tower freq.
Just scroll down to any runway for IAP and download pdf file image.
This site is usually updated well as showed Dover changes a couple weeks ago and was right on!
If there is a recent change they will also flag the listing next to IAP listings for various runways.

Yeah it looks like Airnav is getting some more up to date information; but the last update was mid May. Something could have changed since then. Oh well, I guess it'll turn up sooner or later.

Instead of creating yet more spectrum polution by simulcasting traffic around the clock on the UHF tower freq, could they just be turning it on when they have an arriving/departing military aircraft? Just asking.

123.225 Northrup Gruman test flight frequency active as of 13:25.

[Edit] Wish they'd talk a little more about aircraft types or use callsigns. They never seem to do that. Usual activity has the test bed aircraft trailed by an observer/director that gives the commands for certain maneuvers. Activity still going strong as of 14:08.

Yep, certainly possible. Larry Van Horn wrote basically the same thing (different reason, tho). I was listening during the 'rush hours' because I thought that would be the most active times when a mil flight might need to talk to the tower. I guess we'll just wait and see.

Apart from 360.7 (SWANN sector) I've never been able to hear any other ARTCC UHF frequency at all. Bad spot, whatever...

Anyway, I heard from one source that 257.8 is indeed on the air, but its output is very very low. I suspect either an antenna fault or transmitter failure (blown finals?)

Well that might solve that mystery.....73s Mike

I did hear a new frequency being given for an approach...but didn't see the one they were talking on....the one given was 321.0000 ...I tried programming it into my 2052, and it was not one of the ones I already had...hope that helps.

If 257.8 is transmitting now on low power, it's got to be a fractional watt transmitter because I can't hear a thing on that freq. I can hear TSA clear as a bell with their portables and can hear the various tugs and ground crews running around the airport on their low power stuff but sure don't hear a peep on 257.8.

helicopter traffic

This morning about 8:15am I saw a chinook and a CH-53 Jolly Green, traveling south along route 95 through Laurel towards College Park, MD. Did anyone hear some radio traffic on these or is anything special going on? They were extremely LOW!
