The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

I remember the last time that I was down in Hartford (2014), there were three DMR Tier 3 trunked sites run by Marcus communications in Ct.
Digital Radio In Action - Hytera

The Connecticut Convention Center ran a Capacity Plus System (WQKS233).
ULS License - Industrial/Business Pool, Conventional License - WQKS233 - Connecticut Convention Center

One reason you might not find a license for frequencies is because they were auctioned. Auctioned frequencies are licensed in blocks for a market area rather than a particular location. This site has auctioned frequencies because they are in the 454 MHz range.

System ID: Network 171/Site 26 - Farmington, CT

Neighbor Sites: 3, 8, 9, 15, 50

Frequency Usage Ch #'s
454.19375 Voice & CC 23/24
454.21875 Voice & CC 27/28
454.23125 Voice & CC 29/30

You need to search the UHF band looking for DMR signals.

The firmware does work. I used a Hytera PD782G UHF and a Tytera MD-380 UHF. On the Hytera I programmed a group ID of 10001, slot 1 and CC 1. The Tytera I programmed only slot 1 and CC 1; no contact. The Tytera's display only shows the receiving radio's ID (the "1" in the video). https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9kn3bnoQKoHeC1FcmZFZVZVc2s/view?usp=sharing

When I bought both the VHF and UHF models of the MD-380 I was hoping you would not need the slot or CC but for ~$120, they aren't bad radios so far.

Mike,

What software is that of your second picture? That doesn't look like the one for the Md380

Can anybody at all confirm, without a doubt, that the radio (legit firmware or experimental firmware) can actually copy voice traffic on ConnectPlus voice channels? I haven't had any success, using legit or experimental firmware.

Ex: local connectplus site has 4 freqs (8 LCNs). CC is timeslot 1 on first frequency. But because I don't want it to hang on the CC when scanning, I only programmed in 3 frequencies (timeslot 1 and timeslot 2 on each, with appropriate color code).

I have talkgroups added, and associated the list with the various frequencies.

It does appear to scan the frequencies, but not once have I seen/heard it stop on a frequency when there was voice traffic.

I'd really like to know once and for all if this radio is even capable of monitoring a ConnectPlus VC.

I'll program in and play around with this system.

MTindor,

If I read the Facebook posts correctly on The Tytera MD380 group, "Scanning " will not work to pick up unknown talk groups. You may want to look at those posts on Facebook. There's a pretty good review on there.

I'll see if I can copy and paste it here for forum members.

I read that as well, but I programmed all the frequencies into a Zone and Scan list. I may have a few mins tonight to see if I can hear anything. Might not be able to hear the freqs anyway at home.

I can't remark on Connect Plus systems but I have multiple frequencies in three different scanlists and I'm receiving transmissions fine while doing so. The caveat of course is knowing the color code and then programming a channel for each time slot. I have read elsewhere, possibly on FB, that other people are having no luck with trying to follow trunked systems with this firmware.

By any chance when you scan or sit on a known frequency, color code, and time slot does the unknown talk group # display on your screen?

Also, which bin file did you upload to the radio?

Mine only shows ID's as well. And of course the battery just crapped out and I'm nowhere near my charger. :D

I loaded the experimental version of the firmware.

For what it's worth I attached a codeplug in the event it might be helpful for anyone struggling to get this going. I'm still pretty new at DMR programming so there may well be somethings I could have simplified, but learning is a work in progress.

What channels don't seem to work? From what I can tell, everything looks OK.

I do know that the encryption doesn't work using a Hytera and a Tytera.

Oh I'm hearing everything I'd expect to hear on it, all of which is Tier II Conventional stuff. I just offered it as an example of how to make it work, if anyone was having difficulties. Not sure how many of us are actually doing this.

Given that it's a first edition maybe those that are providing it will consider adapting it to be able to received trunked DMR transmissions. Also, on my Connect Systems units (CS751 and CS801 for amateur use) I notice they do show CC and time slot and TG when in monitor mode so maybe a future enhancement of this firmware will allow for that, which would be nifty. I get most of my info from DSD+ for initial programming but that's not always really portable. :)

I did try last night and I'm not able to receive it at home. We'll be close this weekend so I'll try then.

Thanks, Mike. I'm hoping you'll have success, but I'm not too confident at this point. Unfortunately, with the ConnectPlus systems local to me, they are very inactive these days and so I have to wait along time on a particular timeslot before there is even traffic, which I'm also monitoring with DSD+.

I checked again tonight from home using a different antenna and still do not hear anything on the freqs listed for the trunked system in Charles Town, WV. I'll try Saturday when we're in Shepherdstown, WV.

I monitor a few Connect plus systems with my 380. I noticed no difference with factory or experimental Firmware.
I can think of a few reasons why it may not be working for you
To keep the so called experts off this post, no it does track like the real radio, it's like monitoring a TRS with a convential scanner
