• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The people at Unication are well aware that Uniden has no competition at all in the LSM P25 world and if people realize that they can buy a G series pager and make it work as a scanner (to some degree) this will make Unication a viable competitor.
Many of us bought the G-series to use as scanners without even the hope of typical scanner features. We've used creative programming techniques to help mitigate the lack of those attributes, and the handicaps have been a trade-off for the stellar performance we experience. But if the reported upgrades are well-executed, Unication will have found a new market.

I think paying for a upgrade kinda like some of the scanners pay to upgrade for features. You shouldn't have to pay for like nuisance delete and talk group hold and scan delay that should already be in the pager to begin with.

We all knew or should have known the "lack" of features that you say should have been included in the pagers to begin with. And with some creative programming, my G5 performs as desired. I can use it as a pager or scanner depending which zone or knob position I am on.

I believe when you buy a device you should be able to expect updates to correct flaws and that contrains other minor improvements to make the device improve performance. But this is a HUGE change. It is not just an update. And within reason I will gladly pay for it. I think Unication should role out a firmware update with any bug fixes, etc., and then have that update give you the option to purchase the extra enhancements. If you don't want them.... don't pay for them. Yep... just like Uniden did with DMR, NXDN and ProVoice.

I remember in a Facebook post someone (and I cannot recall who) apparently in a management position at Unication, not so nicely stated this update would never happen. I am glad they changed their mind, or that he was simply wrong. But if this update succeeds it's going to open up the market to more people looking to purchase their product.

I’m going to buy one. Been on the fence for a very long time. With them starting to add some scanner features to it they have sold me.

I think it's unlikely that their target customers will want to pay for this upgrade, example is pagers owned by the FD, EMS, or PD. Volunteers who purchased their own equipment might be interested. Anyone in this forum is likely to want it.

I suppose it could be as low as $25 if it's fully automated purchase and download. I expect it will be quite a bit more then $25.

Now that everyone so far wants to pay for it I bet it will be paid update.... personally I think the simple hold and delay should be free. I have already invested in there products to over 1000 dollars I am not made of money lol!!! Maybe we all should wait and see what Unication decides, maybe they are planning on it being a free upgrade!

Steve,
I noticed that some of the new features were noted as " Further upgrades", are the new firmware enhancements comes in stages?
Thanks for your response.

Hello blackbelter,
In the next firmware version, we will separate the firmware into two versions. One is the regular New firmware V1.30 for the general users and the other is the New firmware with the Trunking free scan feature. "Further upgrades" means users can upgrade their pagers to get more functions (e.g. DMR or Trunking Free Scan) via the firmware upgrading. We're always making the enhancements to meet our customers' demands. :D

Thanks,

Steve

Dumb question, but for those who need it, will the scanner firmware allow a simple pager function, say for a firefighter that just needs to be alerted on a single channel for a single department at a minimum?

And as far as those not wanting to pay, just remember that most efforts are best achived when proper motivation is applied...small fee is a motivation for a company that for a logn time has not had any motivation to put the effort into this functionality of their product. *crossingfingersforfreeupgrade

Steve,
Thanks for your response, will both versions of the firmwares becomes available together?

Yes, both firmware versions support the current units. But the two versions of the firmware can not be programmed to the pager at the same time.

Paul, scanner firmware includes all the pager functions (that's this firmware's value).

Ahhh, so this is an UPGRADE, not an ALTERNATE functionality firmware :)
