• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Has anyone created a spreadsheet, fleet map, etc. for the purposes of tracking the programming of zones/knob positions in their G-series pagers?

Trying to look for inspiration on how to record and pass on this information, especially when you create a knob position that has a ton of talkgroups in the scan list.

I tend to just generalize the knob positions in the description. (eg., XXXFD Pager, XXXFD MONITOR, OPS, ADJACENT, COUNTY, etc.)

I'm thinking the ones that understand that will have no problems and the ones that don't will not be carrying a list with them anyway.

Hope that helps.

This is what I've created to help me keep track and it seems to do a good job even with almost all 256 positions populated with over 5000 TGs. This is an example of the first few zones so not to overwhelm. Be sure to look at all 3 sheets.

First sheet is the zone channel assignment. Cell A1 shows how many knob positions are still available (256 max), and the current firmware allows for 8 knob positions and 64 zones. Channel & zone names are limited to 14 characters.

Second sheet is a layout of each knob position and the TGs and conventional channels assigned to each position. The grid allows for 64 TGs per knob position. Character limit is still 14.

Third sheet is the list of the TGs added, in the order they were added/imported so when I'm looking for a specific TG to add I know roughly where it will be in the list and can start at the top, middle, or bottom and search that way. Same goes for the systems so I know not to duplicate. Hopefully this helps, I know it's made it a lot easier to plan and maintain an expansive codeplug when I travel or have to justify deleting some channels to make room for others and revert back to original zone layouts afterwards.
