Philly and Maryland were the two others that I saw. Were there others?

I would have liked to have seen a Phoenix-Mesa area video or 2, given the LSM issues with the Regional Wireless Cooperative (RWC, Phoenix) and the TOPAZ RWC (Mesa).

Hi John, I did test the SDS100 in many parts of the Phoenix area, specifically in areas I have had prior simulcast issues before, including the West Valley, Scottsdale and Anthem areas as well as some testing in the center city.

In one area I frequent checking frequencies frequently (Deer Valley) my 436 has severe issues but the SDS performed flawlessly. I did try it out a bit on a trip thru the East Valley a while back and don't recall any problems but I had family with me at the time so didn't spend that much time with the radio.

I didn't make videos of it at the time and had not yet seen some of my co-tester's videos but now I wish I had. I had the SDS on a table at the observation deck at DVT side by side with the 436 and it would have made for a great video!

While I live in an area covered by a simulcast site it is so remote that the tower about a mile away is the only one within miles of me so from home I can't really say how well it works in comparison since even my other scanners work fine here. It might as well be a single site system for that matter.

Have any testers found the 436HP to perform better, even intermittently, than the SDS100 in any tests?

I've seen cases where the 436 stops on a comm before the SDS100, but in all cases, multiple things were being scanned, so most likely attributable to simply not being on the same thing at the same time. In those same sessions, sometimes the SDS100 hit first.

Of course, in early testing, the SDS100 sucked at doing some things...but that is what early testing is for (and no point in putting that kind of thing to video, as it is all ironed out during development and testing).

I've has XT scanners scanning the identical single system, and they will take turns being first to stop on a talkgroup all programming identical.

I will add that there will be cases where the BCD436HP (and others) will perform consistently better than the SDS100 in raw RF performance. For the most part, these have been "lab bench" situations...in the real world there are many factors other than the tuned frequency that can affect the received signal, and this new architecture will have a significantly different response in some cases. I can't really quantify this, though, other than YMMV.

The main target of this design is to overcome digital performance issues while not seriously degrading analog performance.

Thank you, Rich. It's good to at least know that it has been tested here, and the results have been positive, even if there are no videos of it.

My main interest would be the Northwest Valley, to include Phoenix PD 900, Glendale PD, El Mirage PD, Tohono O'Odham PD at the Desert Diamond Casino, and Phoenix FD K-decks 6 as well as 9-15. (The Towers Mtn IR will sometimes carry PFD K-1 and K-6, but I've not heard any of the other K-decks yet. I usually listen to PFD A-1 for dispatches.)

I can monitor Peoria PD (at least A-1) off of the White Tank Mtn's and Towers Mtn IR sites, and Surprise PD off of the White Tank Mtn's. I would just like to be able to hear everything else in the areas I frequent, and even before your reply, it does sound like I could, as long as I had the money to spare to buy a new scanner lol

So back to the titular topic of this thread, any updates on when FCC approval for the SDS100 will be officially granted?

And once this information is communicated to the companies that will be selling the SDS100 they can officially start a waiting list which may set a record on its length. (Like sold out before I can click on the ORDER button).

However, Upman has done this before therefore I think things are happening we just do not know about it, but it couldn't hurt to ask I suppose.

Everything has been submitted to the FCC. We are just waiting (im)patiently for them to issue the grant. Can take up to 3 weeks, but that is not usual...typically within a week. But, Memorial Day holiday is right in the middle of our waiting time. As eager as you guys are, imagine how eager we are...we've got units made and waiting to ship just waiting for the grant. First units are coming in by air (expen$ive, but we've got a lot of customers screaming for them, so...).

The next update we'll get from the FCC will be when the Grant posts (unless they find something that needs a response). Otherwise, once everything is submitted to the FCC it is pretty much a black hole.

Meanwhile, finger sore from re-typing the search criteria on the OET lookup web site.

Me too... My browser has these values memorized.

I have found that if you keep the page open after searching, hit refresh, and tell it to resend the information, it will update without reentering the info.

AMW (AMWUB383).

But, I really think they batch process overnight and all the grants for the day show up at once. I just don't know what time that happens.

Paul is going to be so bored once the SDS-100 hits the shelves, maybe he should explore the feasibility of a Home Patrol 3 with Trunktracker X and True I/Q technology...
