It does sure appear that LIScanner was threatening to sue Uniden (even though he had no damages) by sending the matter to his lawyer friend. I would not blame Uniden for defending themselves strongly against such matters.

As you can see from the very fact that I am able to post here –

I’M BACK.

I am going to refrain from getting into long-winded discussions about the above subject matter. That’s not to say that I’m not going to continue to speak my mind, but after this post I won’t address the above with specific details any longer. However, I will say the following and hopefully this will address some of it:

1. UPMan and I had an email exchange just prior to my temporary banning. I won’t disclose any more of the content other than what I have already posted on this site, but I believe I would not be breaching any confidentiality verbiage in the footer of both of our emails if I said that UPMan’s message was somewhat legally threatening in nature. He may deny that, but it is what it is. As far as the actual verbiage, I won’t discuss that.

2. Very soon after that, I received an infraction from Mike Oxlong. Mike C&P’d a post I made which had nothing at all to do with the reasoning he stated for why he was giving me the infraction.

3. I was temporarily banned from posting on RR.

Moving forward, I’m not going to look into the rear view mirror on this any longer. I know who and what I am dealing with, and while I definitely do NOT like it one bit, I’m just little old me and I don’t want to go head to head with a huge corporation with much deeper pockets than I have.

Onward and upward.

Jeez, this thread's still going? I was hoping it would fall off the board or had been locked by now.

As a business owner at various times of my life myself, I can tell you that having an A rating with the BBB is like getting a J.D. Power and Associates award. Anyone with enough money to spend on it can get one, as this investigative report from ABC news found out.

Chances are good that the BBB told Uniden they could get an A for X amount of money and Uniden told them to suck eggs - hence the "F". But hey, if you'd rather believe that the BBB is on the up-and-up (you might as well believe in the tooth fairy while you're at it) and Uniden is actually ripping people off, go for it.

ETA: Think about all the "male enhancement" products, penny auction sites, and other such obvious scams that show up in your email every day from various spammy sleazoid companies that have an "A" rating with the BBB. Do you really still think that rating means a damn thing? Use your brains, folks.

Deeper pockets for sure - - huge not by a country mile - less than $400MM world wide revenue is on the small size for a middle market private company. For comparison purposes - Jack In The Box has 5x the revenue as Uniden, In 'n Out Burger has 50% more revenue, Sbarro pizza is roughly the same revenue.

Didn't Sbarro just file for bankruptcy??

Yes Sbarro just did (also in '11 as pointed out above). Not saying Uniden has any financial issues just trying to give a size comparison everyone can relate to. In the scheme of things Uniden is pretty small.

FWIW, I have a very soft spot in my heart for Jack in the Box and IN 'N OUT Burger :D

I known this is way off topic, but I actually inserted the "bottom" dipole of the 5094A into the space between two walls just far enough so the "top" dipole just barely clears the peak of the attic. Yeah, I know, "you're not supposed to do that!!" but it seems to still work GREAT and the antenna will easily outlive me :D

How does your x36HP handle the Monitenna? My BCT15X works great on mine.

I have a Uniden 996XT hooked to the 5094A and it does very well on the ILL-P25 Digital Starcom towers in radius of 25 miles.....It uses 50' of LMR400 on my tower....That's a real "COOL" way u mounted it in attic....Thank you guys for allowing this off topic.....

I am surprised to see some of the RR administrators getting damaged scanners back. Someone got their scanner back with a scratched and scraped display window and Upman advised that Uniden couldn't have done the damage. Basicly dismissing the situation. Another person got their's back with the function knob not functioning properly. All could have been avoided by providing new units to customers.

Uniden claims they DID return new units to customers (other than those requesting their originals back). Mine looked like it was new. Had the original plastic on the bezel.

I have three Uniden scanners and I think they are all great quality and once everything is ironed out with the new model I will get one also.
