Too bad you had to type that long winded diatribe apparently directed at me to explain something I already knew. You and I have been members here almost as long and may be among the original members of RR.

You missed the point of my quote you chose to highlight at the top of your dissertation. While it may be forum policy, you must agree that I do make a point as to the downside of all this suspension / cloak and dagger nonsense.

So, before you state once again what I already know, I will concede - YES, I do not have to be here and can go elsewhere if I do not like the rules. YES, for extreme cases, there needs to be an avenue to address serious trouble makers.

I sincerely doubt LI Scanner rose to that level.

As an old timer, I remember the days when there were less rules and regulations, and more open exchanges of opinion, pro or con. If they became heated at times, so be it. All good discourse comes with a little sweat and tears....

RR used to be like that. Sadly, not any more.

In the future, if members behave, could some consideration be given to remove all infractions given during this time period please?

Given the many warnings that were given by the mods/admins both publicly and privately in many threads over the last few weeks, I would doubt that "infraction removal" is currently an item on the menu.

Its really sad that people can't see the difference between bringing up an issue or complaint and incessant whining and crying. There is a huge difference there. Plus its that difference that is important.

Dafe1er

Lets see where to start here.

You have freedom of speech but a forum doesn't have to provide you a medium to exercise it regardless of you thinking differently.

Your complaints are full of me, my, and other personnel possessive pronouns and it shows. First of all you and others having "Requested and requested things and have yet to see them" is your problem not Unidens. It does not make the radio a defective product or even have anything wrong with it.

Uniden not putting things you want or think should be there is again not Uniden's problem but yours. For you and others to constantly get up there crying about it being a crappy product and defective because it doesn't have what you want or think it should have does not make it either.

It is not Uniden's problem and they decide what they want to put in a scanner and what they don't. Your not liking what they put in or don't put in doesn't qualify as releasing a bad product or one with any issues at all for that matter. They obviously are quite happy with their product and releasing it so they don't have a problem with it from the evidence of them doing it.

Your complaining about the wifi app is one UPMan/Uniden has answered repeatedly but as usual no one pays attention. The app is "Expected" to be released by the end of March. That is the "Plan" not a guarantee. Not only is it not the end of March but a lot of people can't bother to read the replies or just don't like them and complain about something that isn't even supposed to be out yet under the best of circumstances. Expectations and plans run into issues sometimes which change said plans or make them unable to meet expectations. At least wait until its supposed to be released before complaining about it not being there. (From what I understand the scanner was purchased knowing this functionality would not be available for some time)

As to extreme options or DMR while it would certainly be nice and even merit a place in wish lists the scanner doesn't come with it. The scanner is not advertised as having it or going to have it so when purchasing one you should expect it not to be there, ever. If you buy a scanner then hope they are going to make it into what you want then you end up disappointed but once again its your problem and not Uniden's.

As to a major company taking an entire God awful week to officially acknowledge a problem someone brought up on a forum. Heck lets crucify them. Its certainly completely unreasonable for a company to see someone post something on a forum and monitor it for a few days to see if its a one or two person issue or a real honest to God problem or not.

So in reading your post I see a whole lot of blaming Uniden for not doing what you want, what you think they should do, what you think they should have done by now, what they haven't done to your demands and of course what you seem not to have researched at all before buying.

Somehow this is all the company's fault? I think not. Out of all the issues there might be one in there that is valid and only because I have no clue if it was addressed as a "To Come" item or should already be there item. The rest are all about your opinion, wants, demands and desires and Unidens lack of meeting them. To say that makes the product defective or something wrong with it is in itself wrong.

This doesn't just apply to you though. Many of the people complaining the most are in the same category of blaming the product for not being what they wanted or think it should be. It still doesn't make it defective though and it certainly doesn't make it not ready for sale.

One other thing that some are whining about regarding the headphone issue is supposedly Uniden's lack of QC. UPMan answered that already but again nobody seems to have paid said answer any attention. The beta testers tested out the unit and it worked fine when sent to production. There was NO problem with the jack and/or headphones. Someone at the factory did something wrong putting it together which created the problem there and Uniden jumped right on it to take care of it. Also the supposed further problems with the headphone jack aren't. They are problems with the headphones people use which is again not Uniden's fault or problem. Just like people using Mac computers instead of what they're supposed to use is causing problems but again not Uniden's fault or problem.

Go back to my seven categories and your post meets the first six but not the seventh I'm afraid.

Hey everyone do you hear that?

CLAP, CLAP, CLAP…..It is the sound of the Uniden QUEENS supporting yet again another BS posting!

“You have freedom of speech but a forum doesn't have to provide you a medium to exercise it regardless of you thinking differently”.

But yet, they are letting you run your mouth FREELY!

“Your complaints are full of me, my, and other personnel possessive pronouns and it shows. First of all you and others having "Requested and requested things and have yet to see them" is your problem not Unidens. It does not make the radio a defective product or even have anything wrong with it”.

Actually, what we have requested a new firmware to FIX issues they have been “working on” for OVER A YEAR. They DID NOT. Hence the issues that were carried over from the old scanner (HP-1) to the NEW!

“Uniden not putting things you want or think should be there is again not Uniden's problem but yours. For you and others to constantly get up there crying about it being a crappy product and defective because it doesn't have what you want or think it should have does not make it either”.

I think you need to re-read some of my postings. I NEVER said the products are defective, I have said that they (Uniden) have gone down the WRONG path going backwards to base station and handheld scanners. The reason I say this is the HP-1 WAS, WAS going in the direction of the “future”. Instead Uniden went backwards for the OLDER less technical “fan base” because some of you older folks could NOT grasp the concept of a touch screen.

“It is not Uniden’s problem and they decide what they want to put in a scanner and what they don’t. Your not liking what they put in or don’t put in doesn’t qualify as releasing a bad product or one with any issues at all for that matter. They obviously are quite happy with their product and releasing it so they don’t have a problem with it from the evidence of them doing it”.

You are correct. THEY are happy. NOT many happy customers though! Again re- read half the Uniden area.

“Your complaining about the wifi app is one UPMan/Uniden has answered repeatedly but as usual no one pays attention. (From what I understand the scanner was purchased knowing this functionality would not be available for some time)”.

First, what major MULTIMILLION DOLLAR company PRINT/VIDEO an ad and shows all the “options” you will get with said product but then AFTER it is on the selling table and has been SHIPPED to consumers says, We will have to hold this option and this option back for “further development”? NONE.
This is the big kicker for some around this site. Uniden release’s their MOST expensive product first, creates a huge demand for it and then takes back the main portion of the product because THEY HAVE NOTHING READY TO GIVE OUT! I think this boarder on DEFRUADING THE PUBLIC! But, who am I?

“As to extreme options or DMR while it would certainly be nice and even merit a place in wish lists the scanner doesn't come with it. The scanner is not advertised as having it or going to have it so when purchasing one you should expect it not to be there, ever. If you buy a scanner then hope they are going to make it into what you want then you end up disappointed but once again its your problem and not Uniden's”.

Just a little FYI, you need to GO BACK through the Uniden area once again and re-read some of the postings. Customers have asked since the new scanners have come out if they are capable of doing these things. Somewhere in there someone from somewhere asked about these things and was given an answer that was MISLEADING. Nobody has “officially” said anything but will let those who ask about them mislead themselves for the answer.

“As to a major company taking an entire God awful week to officially acknowledge a problem someone brought up on a forum. Heck lets crucify them. Its certainly completely unreasonable for a company to see someone post something on a forum and monitor it for a few days to see if its a one or two person issue or a real honest to God problem or not”.

Maybe they should have caught these issues BEFORE running the scanner(s) to market. Maybe they should have done some REAL testing of these scanners first. Maybe they should learn how to acknowledge consumers issues right away and NOT sit in the background trying to find a way around the problem.

“So in reading your post I see a whole lot of blaming Uniden for not doing what you want, what you think they should do, what you think they should have done by now, what they haven't done to your demands and of course what you seem not to have researched at all before buying”.

Hey smart guy, it is NOT just me! Some people have been banned; some people have been belittled, some people are just afraid to say anything because people like YOU want to break their balls over a company trying to make a FAST BUCK with their hard earned money. I AM NOT. They want my money then need to make better products. PERIOD

“Somehow this is all the company's fault? I think not. Out of all the issues there might be one in there that is valid and only because I have no clue if it was addressed as a "To Come" item or should already be there item. The rest are all about your opinion, wants, demands and desires and Unidens lack of meeting them. To say that makes the product defective or something wrong with it is in itself wrong”.

Again, I never said anything about defective products. Even though, the first 2600 BCD536HP’s WERE DEFECTIVE. Hence, the “recall” So, YES it is the company’s fault. Or would you like to push that on the consumer again?

“This doesn't just apply to you though. Many of the people complaining the most are in the same category of blaming the product for not being what they wanted or think it should be. It still doesn't make it defective though and it certainly doesn't make it not ready for sale”.

NOW, now, this is not applied to me? You waste your time banging me throughout this CRAPPY posting and ONLY NOW it is not just me? WTF ever!

“One other thing that some are whining about regarding the headphone issue is supposedly Uniden's lack of QC. Just like people using Mac computers instead of what they're supposed to use is causing problems but again not Uniden's fault or problem”.

First, the QC should have been done throughout the ENTIRE manufacturing process. Not just for the first run or scanners pulled for the corporate lackeys to use for “testing”. Each and every single scanner should have went through a testing procedure BEFORE going into the box and shipping to the depot’s. The consumer does NOT need to be the QC.

Funny how you once again want to put it on the consumer for not doing something the manufacture is responsible in doing! This is and will always be Uniden’s fault. They made the concept of the scanner’s and designed them. Then they shipped them out after taking OUR MONEY. NOT THE CONSUMER.

“Go back to my seven categories and your post meets the first six but not the seventh I'm afraid”.

Well, I did go back and now you have your answers.

I will end in saying this.

If you want people like me to be a beta tester of these products you need to ask first. Not just expect us to spend HUNDREDS of dollars like we have to beta test. If you are going to publicly print advertisements that show many options that COME WITH these products and then JUST AFTER they are released/ SOLD pull them, then you and the company need to think of what is to come from those consumers who were TRICKED into buying a NOT FINISHED product.

Well first we had the recall for a part that should have never gotten into the supply chain for the headphone hiss problem. Now we have another potential recall for http://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-bug-reports/286491-problem-bcd536hp-usb-mini-jack.html which is less than acceptable for serial mode on the 536. Maybe there is some credence to those not happy with Uniden's release of these scanners.

But people are cry babies because a multimillion dollar company is using CHEAP inferior parts made in Japan. Maybe we should bring the scanner making business BACK to the USA and use REAL parts! Betting if this was a Union shop this crap would not come close to happening.....matter of fact, I know it would not happen!

Unreal!

Brilliant response! See you after your suspension!!!! LOL

I've been into scanning since the old Electra Bearcat (Fine company) crystal days.

Always been partial to the GRE scanners. Excellent receivers. I live within 2 miles of NYC, probably the richest RF environment in the country, Diamond Discone topside, Stridsberg multicoupler, and I've NEVER experienced RF overload as is commonly cited as a problem with GRE products. Still have a 2006 and 43 and use them every day.

Guess I'm lucky?

Never much cared for Uniden until the HP 1. I truly believe they got that one right by accident. Excellent concept and design. I own two and plan to get another one soon.

TRULY a consumer scanner. TRULY an item the average Joe or Jane can power up and with little to NO technical acumen have up and running, listening to local agencies in ten minutes.

The touch screen is beautiful, makes sense, and works. Even with the Sentinel software, very easy to program and even make your own custom FAV lists. Heck, even I can do it!

But, for some reason unknown to me, Uniden tried to merge the 396 / 996 hi tech super difficult scanner into the HP concept, loosing everything that was great about the HP in the process.

I hope the hi tech niche scanner market is huge, because there is no way the average Joe or Jane can walk in to a store, buy a 436 or 536 and have it up and running in 10 minutes like the HP 1.

Now, maybe it's me. I am sure Uniden knows what it is doing. They listened to all the "We want buttons, we hate the HP screen" whiners here and what we got is a MESS. IN MY OPINION

Thankfully for me, the prices of used HP 1 units are dropping like Flies. I may get two more...!

I agree here's a good union made product Made in the USA.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/08/business/recall-at-gm-is-early-trial-for-new-chief.html?_r=0

Linked to only 13 deaths- Probably doesn't matter, if you weren't one of the 13.

I just had my escalade in the dealer for a warranty repair that took 90days- The headbolt stripped thru the aluminum head, at first they wanted to replace the whole motor, but none were under production 6.0L
No dealer had a spare head. My dealer says GM is too cheap to put a sleeve or something like that to fix the problem.
Gm must have rushed the 6.0L to market. or was it the union guys fault,
I sure don't want to go back to using my Bearcat 101. It cost me $350 back in the late 70's. probably close to $1000 in todays money.

There are options though
1. Buy 3-4 commercial grade radios-- they never have problems?
2. Boycott uniden
3. Buy from a competitor.
4. Wait 3-4 yrs till the kinks are worked out- probably can find a used one cheaper also.
5. Buy a Uniden- I am sure they are doing their best to make a good scanner, that sure works fine on all of
the digital radio systems in my area. Maybe it is the way the techs install this equipment poorly.
6. Do without a scanner- my wife sure wishes i would.
7. Quit the Hobby completely, and stop posting here.

On my way over to the ford forum- to ***** about something they are doing wrong- on a vehicle i don't own. That sounds insane doesn't it.

ROFLMAO. If they want to ping me then so be it. I am sorry if they or their "diehards" cannot handle the little stress around a forum.

I agree with everything you say on the HP-1.

That unit was the first digital scanner I ever had. I found it to be really easy to work with out of the box and when I learned the software I was all good.

I love the HP-1. Never really had much bad to say about it. They have so much more potential than the new scanners but, some around here do not see it since they do not own one and or like touchscreens.

The only real gripe I have had with the HP-1 is the lack of support from it's manufacture. Over a year now and we have had NOTHING as to a firmware update to help with the P25 decoding, GUI color changes etc... We have seen UPman post about a possible "one final" firmware update to come out at some point. But, funny how it was mentioned AFTER the new scanners came out and were found to have the SAME EXACT issues the HP did. So, they used the new scanner owners as "testers" to fix the old scanner problems. GREAT Business move there.

If Un-done (My new name for Uniden) would have thought it through, they could have had one bad-*** 436 lineup.

"She has also ordered a rare public apology, and started an internal inquiry to determine why G.M. spent years studying a deadly safety issue without taking action".

"According to a chronology of events that the company submitted to the government, G.M. officials were aware as far back as 2004 that keys in ignitions could be jostled and cause engines to shut off, deactivating air bags. The chronology also shows that unnamed employees at the company knew at various times of frontal-impact crashes linked to ignition failures".

It was GM, NOT the Union that HID THIS FROM CONSUMERS. It was GM and their corporate lackey's that sat on this for years causing MORE people to die for their LACK of knowledge.

And Now, it is going to cost them a BOATLOAD of money and I can honestly say GOOD! GM SUCKS! Buy Dodge!

Marshall,

The complaints are legitimate, Uniden brought these problems upon themselves, by rushing their product to market. Uniden could have taken steps to limit the bad press, by recalling all the effected stock from all their sellers. Uniden made the choice not to do this. Uniden has a history of sub par scanners and leaving their customers hanging, all one has to do is use the search feature on this site. My HP1 has similar deficiencies. I do not think there is one person here that wants Uniden to fail, or Upman to have Job insecurity. I find it disappointing that members have racked up many infractions, and now a member LIScanner has been threatened with legal action and banned, but its ok to call Whistler's Scanners Vaporware.

I've been purchasing Uniden scanners for 40 years and never had any problems, since when are they labeled sub-par? Your Sir, are not the majority!!!

I don't recall anyone saying they were sub par. Sub par compared to what?

Sub par is pretty subjective.

However, if you read through the posts just on this page, you see an example of folks who are having a discussion as to the pros and cons of what can be very expensive items, and IN THEIR OPINION, what Uniden could have done, or did not do to make things better.

As for FARSCAN snarkly insinuating that you have to own a scanner in order to make a comment, that's been used before. The argument has no merit.

I believe this conversation is regarding Uniden in general terms as opposed to particular scanner models.

I will stay out of the union vs. made in America vs. made overseas aspect of this debate.

I believe the HP 1 scanners were made overseas, and as I've said already, I believe they are fine scanners.

That being said, I think continual support by Uniden of the HP1 scanner in the form of needed firmware upgrades would go a long way to mend some broken fences.

Too bad you had to type that long winded diatribe apparently directed at me to explain something I already knew.
A diatribe usually contains strong or bitter criticism. It was not my intent to criticize you. I was addressing what I perceived as some misconceptions about how the infraction system works. Other posts in this thread indicated to me that some posters believed that a suspension was issued without any prelude. My point was that infractions had been issued, for multiple offences, and when the infraction points reached the automatic temporary ban level, the ban was implemented...automatically.

If my perceptions were incorrect, then I am guilty of misreading the opinions and emotions behind the posts.

As an old timer, I remember the days when there were less rules and regulations, and more open exchanges of opinion, pro or con.
Society has changed. My perception is that people have become less polite. My perception is that people are more likely to act out and make negative, hurtful, uncivil, and untrue statements in the on-line world. The outcome of this societal change is the need for rules and active moderation in on-line forums.

As for FARSCAN snarkly insinuating that you have to own a scanner in order to make a comment, that's been used before. The argument has no merit.
I partially disagree with you on this point.

If Uniden comes out with a new scanner that doesn't have the features you want, I believe you are free to express an opinion that you aren't interested in the scanner or that you are disappointed it doesn't meet your needs. The issue, though, is the community's standard for how many times you express that opinion before your posts become intolerable.

If Uniden comes out with a new scanner, which you do not buy, and you read in this forum or other forums that the performance is lacking, is it reasonable for you to post that the scanner is sub-par based not on your personal experience, but based on the reports of others? Should there be a community standard for that kind of post?

And, I think that's the fine line in the sand that was crossed. Owners of the new Uniden scanners who were legitimately concerned about the performance of their new purchases and really wanted to work with Uniden to get the problems resolved may have felt that their voices were being drowned out by the Uniden haters who just wanted to make negative posts.

I will stay out of the union vs. made in America vs. made overseas aspect of this debate.
Yeah, that's a complicated issue. "Made in America" is a very hazy idea any more. Ford and GM build cars all over the world in plants with and without unionized labor. Chrysler is owned by Fiat, an Italian company. Asian and European car manufacturers have plants in this country, most without unionized labor forces. Volkswagen allowed a union vote to be held recently at their new plant in Chattanooga, but the union lost. I'm sure none of this is news to you.

I believe the HP 1 scanners were made overseas, and as I've said already, I believe they are fine scanners.
I just looked at my HP-1--it was made in China. My BCD536HP was made in Vietnam.

That being said, I think continual support by Uniden of the HP1 scanner in the form of needed firmware upgrades would go a long way to mend some broken fences.
Frankly, I'm a bit confused by Uniden's direction. You would think the HP-1 platform would be one they'd want to continue to support. Maybe even develop an HP-2 with P25 Phase 2 support. But, I really expected the BCDx36HP line to be more advanced, more revolutionary than it turned out to be. Mashing a slightly updated BCDx96XT line with the HP-1 memory structure leaves me looking for more.

Sorry for the long-winded post. I get going and the words and ideas just flow.

Now that is something I totally agree with. Would have so loved to see an HP-2 device with all the improvements in the next advanced scanner.

It almost seems as if different people were brought in with this new product line. Maybe some upper level management changed. I really thought the HP-1 design would survive into the future and would be the product that lead the field along side the more traditional 996 design and was surprised to see it sort of fading away. Whoever designed the HP-1 interface knew what they were doing. I can't help but thing a totally different team took on the X36 design.

They should have just copied the 996 added Phase II and a few other new goodies, home run in my book.

I agree 100%.I like my HP1 for certain things but like the 996 series and seem to use them more often. I would like to see a true base station come out again but I am not going to hold my breath.

I see you are a new member here, welcome to RR.

I have no idea if you have had the opportunity to compare Uniden to the late GRE, but in my neck of the woods, my GRE Scanners do not miss near the transmissions as my Uniden HP1. I also have a issue with the AGC, some transmissions come in too loud or just a whisper, and some other bug issues as well.

If you are interested, you can use the search feature on this site, and read some past issues with Uniden P25 garbled/motorboating transmissions and other issues.

When I mentioned sub par, the above is what I was referring to.

From what I have read, and this seems to be true with the current models, not everyone is effected with these issues, and to be fair GRE has also had some issue's as well.

If you have not had any issues with any of your Uniden Scanners, I am very happy for you, and everyone else.

But at this moment, I do not know if I agree with your, I am not in the Majority? I do believe a lot of the current issues will be resolved, and I have my fingers crossed, with the future HP1 firmware announcement, that hopefully will solve my HP1 issues.

I am also interested in a possible future 536 purchase, mainly for the Siren App that has not been released yet.

Anyways, this is a great site, with lots of information, and folks to lend a helping hand. Enjoy!

I agree 100%.I like my HP1 for certain things but like the 996 series and seem to use them more often. I would like to see a true base station come out again but I am not going to hold my breath.

Yep, a true base station about the size of the CB base stations back in the day. They could make the screen in color alot bigger have more then one antenna jack and a bigger speaker. I won't hold my breath either. :)
