That did it! All updated and ready to go...I don't know if it's my imagination or simply wishful thinking but if I didn't know better I'd say it's scanning better! Thanks for the help, jdolina!

I just did the update on my TRX-1. I'll be testing it out on my preferred agency listening in the NYC & NNJ area.

I really like the signal meter during scan feature. Now I know if my squelch is set too low and the squelch is opening too much (slowing down scan) while scanning. I haven't updated my TRX-2 yet, but I hope it has the same feature. I've read here that it doesn't. If not, I hope they fix that.

Thanks Whistler.

I have noticed a couple people mention after the update that the signal bars are showing during scan. After updating my 1080 and 1095, it still shows scan, signal bars only show when they are receiving something. Other then that both scanners are working great.

I have done the same update to my TRX-1 and like seeing the bars but am I crazy to think that it seems after this latest update my scanner reception seems less then before and somewhat Scratchy year on UHF/VHF transmissions. Maybe it’s just me, or all this smoke and haze from the many fires here in Northern California ?

I found my reception is better especially on a P25 system some 40 miles away using a base attenna,4 to 5 bars after this last update, will leave good alone.

Does this apply to the psr800 upgrade from whistler? I've updated the PC Software and it only gave me DSP firmware.

Only the TRX series got a CPU update. All the WS series (including PSR upgrades/1080) are DSP and PC s/w only). Not sure why, the "Skip DMR TG" feature that the CPU update addresses should also apply to the WS series.

I also updated the psr800 gas as I can tell all went well. I monitor P25 & MOT and seems to be fine, I was just questioning my signal reception on UHF/VHF with the TRX-1 but it’s probably all in my head because looking at earlier posts The latest updates didn’t have anything to do with signal strength or reception far as I could tell so it could be conditions out here locally I am not sure ?

Signal bar

Is anyone else finding the signal bar constantly changing while scanning a little annoying? Is this a bug or was it put in as a feature?

I think it is great with that feature, and likewise with the update I could not ask for better reception compared to the last upgrade,if it is weather change it may have been a coincidence I will take it and if they do another update I will leave mine the way it is,it is working perfect.

How is a random signal bar, that has no relevance to any signal that is or isn't being received, a desirable feature?

When the unit is scanning, looking for signals, the signal bar is sometimes all the way up, which would indicate there is a strong signal, implying it should stop and allow audio to pass, yet the unit keeps on scanning....

Hopefully this is a bug, and the signal bar will be put back into correct format in the future.

That is normal and correct behavior if the scanner is checking the control channel of a trunked system. There may be a strong signal, but often there isn't any audio and the scanner will continue scanning.

It does it on analog scanning also, when there is nothing present.......

It shows the noise floor and if the squelch is opening on noise slowing down scan.

Whistler scanners are known to get high noise from nearby FM broadcast stations. That degrades reception. Having an S meter showing during scan lets you know you are in a high noise location,,,and need an FM trap filter to suppress the noise.

It's a good feature.

I think the signal bar is a good feature, too. The more bells and whistles the better. My TRX-1 had trouble rec'ing the security guys at the local mall (dmr) and after this last update they are loud and clear and transmitting a very strong signal. Listened to them tackle a shoplifter this afternoon. I am also hearing Auto Zone parts delivery people on a dot itinerant frequency that I've never heard before. Hearing WalMart customer service. Yeah, this last update was good.
