It's been two weeks since ive seen any news about the Siren App. Granted, some have been waiting over a year for any meaningful update.

@UPman or anyone with knowledge on the matter, is there going to be a beta testing phase (that consumers can participate in)?

I'm sure someone will find a bug or two with the "official" release. I'm also nearly certain a handful of users will hate the initial release for various reasons of their own. While many will be expecting perfection the longer this app spends in "testing", I think a lot of us would be happy to see something at this point as opposed to nothing. Anyone agree or disagree?

LOL - You're wasting bandwidth. We will likely never see any of the missing features working. UNIDEN has got a giant set of chrome plated brass gonads when it comes to keeping their promises.

So, despite the working demo on Youtube, you say that will never exist. Interesting "logic". It will never exist even though it already does. And Uniden has a very good history of product support minus this WiFi issue in which Uniden was held hostage over the firmware from the manufacturer, and the related features. Uniden even issued rebanding updates for discontinued models when they didn't have to.

Certainly is good news! Still don't understand why its coming to the IPhone first though, most people own Android based phones.

Thats why Apple sold 74.5 million iPhones in the last fiscal quarter that ended on Dec. 27. iPhones growth has been growing in all markets except Asia were Android is still popular.

From USA Today: Yes, Android has 67% of the market, according to Gartner, to Apple's 10%, but most of that is with lower-end models sold in emerging markets.

If you rang all the iPhones sold quarterly through a cash register, and then did the same with comparative Android phones, "it would be 10- to 1 for Apple," says Tim Bajarin, an analyst with Creative Strategies.

"There is money to be made in Android," he says. "But so much more for Apple."

Note: I own and use both so I'm not locked to a particular model.

Now I'm really torn.

I bought a 996xt instead of a 396xt so I could get a 436 for grab and go.

I was going to get a 536 but decided to get the 996xt instead.

Looking at that app. I'm undecided again.

I want a 436 for grab and go. Buuuuuut I could connect it to my phone and use my phone with the 536. For long car rides though is the dilemma.

Damn. Income tax needs to hurry up.

Yes, it is a real shame that his test phone does not live up to your expectations.

par for the course. I guess that's how they roll down in Texas.

Lets just hope that those little things are noticed and show their true colors and knock our socks off when its released.

I am not sure why they just have not released it to us in a beta version? Its on his phone....

Just put it out there for beta testing. We already paid for it

They have to get the code to a certain point before throwing it out to the wolves for beta testing.

I expect all the regular trolls to swarm the forums and bash Uniden, complaining about every bug they find. Sure, finding and reporting bugs is the point of beta testing but it always tends to escalate and get out of control when it comes to this scanner. Case in point... people complain about the type of iPhone they use to show an app preview. Really?

I digress... Uniden knows that nothing that they do will be good enough for this small minority of people. I am just looking forward to using the iOS app and then seeing the Android version released.

This forum really needs a "like" button. :)

So one of the gripes from the countless complaint threads was that the frequency of the voice channel wasn't being displayed during a trunked transmission. Look at the video again.

Do we know if audio is only going to come from the phone/tablet or is there some way to use this as sort of a "remote head" and audio still come from the actual scanner?

I hope it will be such that in "Remote Head" mode, the sound would come from the scanner's speaker or external speaker if used. I doubt a smart phone has enough "stuff" to be heard in a vehicle. I'd rather not run another wire from the smart phone to a speaker just to hear the scanner.

I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed. If you are running an app on the phone then the sound is going to come from the phone. The wireless remote head idea is not going to happen and have sound come from somewhere else.....Its a phone app.....
