Anyone up for posting a pic of your 1095 install?

How does it handle power on/off?

In mobile use, if the 1095 is on a switched power source, will it turn on automatically when power is provided? This is one of the things that bugs me about the HP2 - having to hold down the power switch for 3 seconds every time I start the car.

Boatanchor said it well, I'll add my two cents.

I used a handheld in the car for years. I finally got tired of not being able to hear the scanner and the terrible reception in the car. I then installed a remote speaker and a fender mounted antenna. Things were better after that, but then I had the issue of constantly plugging in the speaker to the scanner, removing the rubber duck antenna and connecting the fender mounted antenna.

After growing tired of that setup and the wear and tear on the handheld I finally got smart. You can't beat a properly installed mobile scanner and antenna. It's always there ready to go, just turn it on. No plugging and unplugging of anything. Wires run properly out of sight and feet. Loud clear audio, and with a properly mounted antenna, "think roof mounted" great reception. I would never go back to using a handheld in the car.

Use a pair of computer pre-amp speakers that have their own batteries. They are alot better and louder than the speaker on handheld.

Has anyone tested the civil airband and VHF-Hi band performance of the WS-1095 ? Does it suffer from front end signal overload and desense in this part of the VHF spectrum ?

I tested the 118-136 mhz airband and the radio sounds awesome. I just had to make sure I did not have the attenuation feature turned on. Sounds nice and clean

Ugh, that's disappointing to me too. I have a fairly short commute to work, the power-up checklist will take as long as the commute itself! :)

Yes, you will have to turn it on each time.

What a shame. It's the biggest complaint I have as well with mobile scanner radios.

All that technology and hoopla for a remote head, mobile mounting, etc., and you still have to trun the darn thing on and off every time you start the car....

Come on Whistler engineers, it's a MOBILE scanner radio at over 500 DOLLARS!

SSSeeesssssh!

From what I understand, Uniden's SD card units have the same requirement.

... as with any radio with a data card you would never want to have the radio on when you turn the key and start the car so it has to be off anyway... when I get a chance I will post a photo of the remote head on my steering column behind the wheel (mounting tape)... cable is flat and easily canceled under the dash (a little gorilla tape)... radio easily tucks away sideways behind the external speaker in center console where I have easy access to the SD card...

Yes, and that's one of the many reasons I don't want an BCD536HP for a mobile either. The scanner makers seem clueless and unresponsive to the mobile scanner market.

And we were all looking to Whistler for something better than Uniden.

I don't see all the excitement here, quite frankly. These are PSR 800 radios re packaged as mobile
Units with a removable head. PSR 800 is an OLD radio, therefore so is the 1095 despite it's new
Body. Certainly no reason to run out and plunk down over 500 bucks on this thing and I am not
So sure Whistler is going dump major R and D money for a new design.

For my money you simply cannot beat the HP1 , HP2 and the new 996 and 325 p2
Scanners.

Tell us how you REALLY feel [emoji3]

Actually, I'm sympathetic to your sentiment also. Nothing new here, except the last GRE design, sadly. However, as a base or mobile, this radio has a lot to offer. Granted, no new digital decode modes, no classic PSR500 trunked analysis features. AND it still has the iPod controls. It's still a great radio for what it is. Many can now argue that it's now old technology., but it works well. Now it's time for Whistler to step up or just continue to supply what exRadioShack, SprintShack, or whatever, will no longer sell. As it is, I like it.

That depends on how many were built in the first production run. Maybe they will pull stock and correct the problem and re supply.

Due to the very high price to get a scanner shipped here, I for one will be waiting for that second batch as a mod is not an option.

That is also taking into account that many US dealers will not ship the 1095 here.

Interesting, since it has a band plan setting. I guess it a hassle to send to CA?

Don't want to hijack this thread (but for us up north this is kinda important info). Only 2 dealers I have found will ship here, scannermaster and zipscanners. The rest .. don't want our business. It is their loss.
