From what I've seen most of halifax county is tdma. ems is still fdma and rrfd is fdma but all pd and county fire is tdma. Troop c seems to.still be fdma even though they pushed for phase 2 lol

Troop A Dist 1 TG 52136 is TDMA for the most part. Dist 3 TG 52138 is listed in the DB as TDMA, but I'm seeing 98% FDMA. Like others said. With DDM all it takes is one radio on FDMA.

Seems like the transition is not going as quick as they wanted.

Does anyone know how NCSHP Troop G's Asheville TG's are actually used? There are 6 districts and 6 different TG's however when listening it seems like dispatch calls district 3 from the dist. 1 or 2 TG and district 6 from district 5 or 4 TG etc. I know that they are dispatched by Newton and I have them all programmed in so I don't miss anything but I would like to organize my system if they have patched certain TG's together or if they patch them only during 3rd shift. Does anyone have any information on this?

Typically patched as needed, may be emergency or staffing on any shift as far as I know.

So how are the subscriber radios for say district 4 programmed? Do they just leave the radio sitting on their own TG all the time or do they also have all 6 in there? I never hear Newton say anything about switching channels on their radios. I guess I could test to see but rarely the G unit they call for matches the TG that pops on the the display, I could try changing to another district TG during a transmission and see what other TG it is coming thru on and try to make a list of who I hear on which particular TG. Another thing is at night like 1 AM I hear dispatch pretty much do a roll call with every trooper in Troop G from all 6 districts and it seems like I will hear dispatch every time but not every trooper due to the hang time on the scanner not picking up the TG that the trooper is actually talking on.

You can see the patches listed in DSD+, Unitrunker, or Pro96Com, among other SDR software, but a patch doesn't require changing channels on the radio, the system routes the patched TG to the appropriate TG for comms.

I don’t have an SDR, I have a Uniden SDS200, anyway to do anything with that connected to a pc?

99% of the time in Troop G, districts 1, 2, & 3 are patched together, and districts 4, 5, & 6 are patched together. The newer Uniden scanners should follow patched traffic so you can just listen to the district you want and you'll hear traffic whether it's by itself or patched to any other resources. The troopers stay on their particular district talkgroup and the system manages the patches so the subscriber always hears the traffic on the channel they are affiliated to. The only exception would be motor carrier troopers which tends to float to various district channels depending on the area they are covering.

That makes sense, I guess it makes it easier for the dispatchers to only have to switch between 2 TG vs 6.

Also known as a Multi-Select (in dispatcher terms). Dispatcher talks once and it goes across all talkgroups in the Multi-Select/patch. As others have said the Troopers stay on their district talkgroups unless some situation requires them to switch to another TG.

So the trooper in G4 would hear dispatch call a G2 unit but would not hear him? They would just hear the dispatch side of the conversation?

You have to remember that one dispatcher/telecommunicator usually covers multiple districts which is why Multi-selects are so handy. So the Troopers in the field might indeed hear calls for other districts from the dispatcher/telecommunicator and just disregard them.

Every now and then this happens on the system I help manage/maintain when the dispatcher downtown adds our Radio Shop TG to a multi-select but forgets to remove our TG after talking to us so then we end up hearing whatever radio traffic she is has for other TGs. Usually we just call them up and say "hey pull our TG out of the Multi-select window please".

EDIT: Just remember the difference:
Multi-select: Outbound dispatches over several TGs where receiving radios only hear radio traffic for the talkgroup they are parked on.
Patch: Outbound dispatches over talkgroups where receiving radios not only hear radio traffic for the monitored talkgroup but can also hear radio traffic for other tgs that are patched with the TG they are parked on.

They are on Davidson County Events 2.. for now.. I speculate this is temporary until Thomasville PD get their own Talkgroup and following the theme it will probably be Encrypted.
They went back to the Guilford county system encrypted

Operation Highway Guardian, a joint operation along I-40 throughout the state was active today, earlier I was hearing NCSHP and Durham SO on VIPER Statewide Events TG Hotel 1. Operation Highway Guardian was an event to bring attention to human trafficking and highway safety. In support of this operation NCSHP had their biggest and newest command trailer at the NC State Fairgrounds.

Football is back and NCSU Wolfpak take to the field tonight, VIPER Statewide Events TG HOTEL1 and HOTEL2 are in use, HOTEL2 (parking lots) talking about police escort of the home team traveling to the stadium. While HOTEL2 is active on the Calls Platform apparently HOTEL1 is not at this time. Golf1 is traffic
