Heard 2 radio techs on 101, stating that about 10 minutes ago (about 7:20am 5/20/15) that Douglas County was up and running on DGLAW2--16002 for day to day operations

Yep, it appears shortly after they made sure everything was working on DGSUPD2 they switched over. It will be interesting to see if PD2 remains open. However with no traffic on it at all it's probably a mute point.

In addition, having all traffic on PD1 leads me to think the PD administration does not understand how WISCOM really works and could be fully leveraged to improve their communications while at the same time not locking everyone out, including those in other public safety fields that monitor for situational awareness.

Police Auxiliary will now be the primary users on the conventional system.

I was talking to a SPD officer last night and he didn't think that even the Douglas County deputies had the ENC key to monitor SPD. Not sure if that is the case but if so that is a step in the wrong direction. SPD2 will remain in the clear, for interop purposes which does solve the above dilemma but a lot of the traffic leading up to the need for assistance will be unheard, which, in my opinion, compromises things. Just too bad that they went ENC for day-to-day. As a 20 year dispatcher, COML, and scanner hobbyist, I do not agree with day-to-day operations being encrypted. I will be the first to suggest it for tactical communications but not the other way around. I can see, on the surface, how agencies like the idea of private communications but there is a definite downside. Anyway, I know there are reasons for it, time will tell if any changes to the set up are made. It sounded like they were happy with the coverage of WISCOM in the city so, in the end, communications have improved so I am grateful that they have a system that works for them-a great goal for any system in place.

re, douglas county migrating to WISCOM, has it happened yet?

Hey, just wondering, has Douglas completely done the switch to WISCOM yet or are they still in progress? Heading up to see my folks & kinda getting curious :). Way i figure it they should ether be nearly complete or at least half way in progress to being complete with the switchover. Thanx! N9NRA.

Douglas County I believe is all on WISCOM now. However Superior PD is now encrypted. You can still hear Fire and Gold Cross.

Douglas County is not fully on WISCOM. Superior PD, Forestry, and Highway are. As mentioned Superior PD is encrypted.

County LE is not. All traffic is still on conventional, patched to WISCOM. If Superior officers need to switch to the County, which is happening more often because the County can no longer monitor the city, they will use trunking and communicate because of the patch.

Superior FD is not. Conventional is patched to WISCOM, and there are occasional users that show up on trunking.

County Fire is not. Some operations have occurred on DGFIRE2, mostly training. The conventional County Fire system is now patched to DGPAGE as a move towards switching. This will allow simultaneous paging and dispatch communication after the switch occurs. Even then, expect some dispatching to still occur on conventional as not all radios/departments will be fully on the system. In addition those of use that respond into the County from elsewhere only have the capability to use xxCOM talkgroups for other than our home county.

Gold Cross is now on trunking full-time, the conventional repeater is no longer patched in. They will use either ARMER or WISCOM depending on where they are, but it appears ARMER is their primary means unless they are outside the City. I'm still not entirely sure of the details, but the ARMER talkgroup is linked to the WISCOM talkgroup.

Hey there :)! Long time no chat with. Anyway, thanx for the answers. Yeah, i figured SPD would do that (go ENC), this space is not the place to hash that `un out. At least there`ll be something to listen to on there now, last time i was there it was deader than a doorstop. Now i can listen to something other than just railroads & aircraft, which isn`t much around my hometown (just two freight trains through town all day & almost no air traffic :)). As to SPD, i`m not missing much there anyway, as me and the folksies don`t go there too much, so it`s no biggie :). Thanx for the info box23, hope to hear you on 145.49/SOLON SPRINGS soon. N9NRA

TGID 77 - unidentified - M-TAC?

Today, I heard someone on TGID 77 ask if anyone was reading him on, what sounded like, "M-TAC". There were no responses. I don't see this TG listed in the database. I can receive several sites and I didn't catch which particular site it was coming from, but it would have been Greenfield VHF/800, Milwaukee VHF, Delafield, Union Grove, Kenosha, Spring Prairie or Rubicon.

It appears the Cato tower in Manitowoc County is online.

152.0300
152.1275 control channel
152.5400
152.7500
152.8400

The only TG active is Manitowoc County Scan, 36010.

Hello All,

I'm new and feeling my way around these systems. I am in Stevens Point and trying to get as much LE traffic as possible. I am using the freqs provided but am still a little confused about talk groups and what not. Anyone care to help me decipher what I'm missing?

I looked at the Data Base For Portage Co. which uses a mix of P25 VHF and analog. Without more specfic information on who your not hearing much traffic (specfic Department or county/area) it is hard to be of much assistance. I looked at your previous post and it appears you have a new Uniden Bearcat scanner which should hear most traffic in your area.

If you will look at my public profile hear on RR.com you can send me an e-mail or private message and I will be glad to try and help you determine if your hearing all the local LE traffic. I also have a working knowledge of most radio systems including trunked, simplex, duplex, digital, analog and common radio language.

Yes, but we're in the WISCOM thread for WISCOM help. I'm assuming that's what OP is here for as well.

If you put in the WISCOM site(s) around you, you'll be able to hear LE WISCOM traffic. However, not many agencies are using WISCOM. It looks like Portage is conventional, with the exception of Park Ridge FD who has a TG on WISCOM.

Since this was WISCOM thread I was trying to help the OP without lengthy post which may have nothing to very little to do with WISCOM. I listen to WISCOM and local Rock County traffic when I travel to my Daughters.

There is not a lot of WISCOM traffic up here. In Point you should be able to hear the Rib Mountain site and maybe Cary Mound depending on your antenna. Off Rib Mountain you will here MNSCAN 37010, PTSCAN 50010, LISCAN 35010 and WSPNC4 144 which are the scan group for Marathon, Portage and Lincoln Counties and the rebroadcast of State Patrol Post 4 in Wausau. You may also catch Taylor County Law 1 61001 as well if they are working in the eastern part of the county. As I can't pickup Cary Mound from my base, I don't know what active talkgroups are on that site. It should add a few County Scan groups from the surrounding counties. Not much else regarding LE will be heard on WISCOM in this area.

Making a trip to Lake Geneva and always have the scanner with me. Was able to pick up the WISCOM system my last trip up there, and heard some radio traffic. I'm slightly confused from some of the posts if the Wisconsin State Police are actually using this system or not?

I usually go up I 94 to State Road 50 and programmed the both the Walworth and Kenosha County Sheriff as I'm not sure who patrols Route 50. Of course Lake Geneva PD and Fire are programmed. Any other suggested towns to program along the way?
