I was going back through recorded audio from the week and saw a hit on TG 9779. I could not make out the calling unit/person (sounded like "Beacon 1") but they were calling State EOC. I think this is most likely State Homeland Security, maybe channel 5 since it follow that format and would logically be that channel number.
According to what I have, that is correct. 9779 is Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management F-5 ["
DHS&EM 5"]. 9771 is
DHS&EM F1, 9773 =
F2, 9775 =
F3, 9777 =
F4, and 9779 =
F5. The unit you heard was probably the DHS&EM director, Gianatto, who uses the call sign "
DHSEM 1", which they pronounce "dee-sum wun". The Fire Marshal, another DHS&EM agency, has at least
F1 through
F3, and the Medical Examiners have
F1 through
F5; I'll get the TG#s and post them tomorrow.
According to what I have, Dr. Ramsey uses "
STECS 1" [State Trauma and Emergency Care System Unit 1] (pronounced as it looks, "steks wun") or sometimes "
EMS 1", and the head of the radio side of the project [I initially thought this was Fred Smart, but I have a note that Charleston FD's former chief, Dave Irwin, heads that project; can someone shed some light?] uses "
COMM 01" ("comm oh wun"). The EMS radio techs [as you know, the system uses the STECS EMS microwave backbone initially used for the statewide linking of the MED channels, 340, 400, etc., to the MCPs at the medical command centers and some other functions, so the STECS techs are heavily involved in the INOP system] use "
EMS 97", "
EMS 95", etc. And the state police radio techs use units in the
11nn series.
