I'm praying for a firmware update that will improve my BCD436HP's performance with Linear Simulcast Modulation systems.

Mototrbo would be a nice addition, however.

Although not the total solution to that issue, a feature in the database working with Sentinel to store a known, good, fixed threshold value in the full database (for those who don't use custom favorite lists...or roam the countryside with GPS control) would be very helpful. Maybe not a humongous feature, but worthy of consideration.

But yes, DMR with search features would be the bomb! :D

It would be nice for Uniden to address and fix whats already not working or has bugs before implementing new features...

I would love to see a desktop, drop in charger for the 436 that provides trickle charge. These are common for commercial and amateur portables...and would make an excellent scanner even more excellent. I know it seems this huge, tremendous (is that trump saying that?) update is geared toward firmware, but I'll express my wish for drop I charger. Either way, thanks Uniden for the updates.

That would be one hell of a firmware. The 436 is not even equipped to handle a drop in charger like professional radios. Place your bet on a firmware enhancement.

I think Uniden should get one more shot to fix its reputation and if they come good with it and on time like they said they would then kudos to them. If not, and something bad goes wrong again then it should be a blood bath until the death of the corporation.

I think this is completely fair at this point.

Seeing that Uniden sells more than just scanners, if folks suddenly stopped buying them, I highly doubt it would mean the death of the corporation.

Just my $.02 worth.

Notice that this fantastic feature was not mentioned (as far as i know correct me if im wrong) for the bcd536. so with that in mind my thinking is that this feature is geared towards the 436 because of it being a hand held and or the 536 already has this fantastic feature already. if its a firmware update then both 436 and 536 would get them.

Actually it was not mentioned as being specific towards either scanner; the exact text was:

There was a glitch when going to the production version that disabled the serial mode fast start. We're going to release a new version that takes care of this, as well as the backlight bug, as well as a huge, tremendous, fantastic feature addition. Target is by the end of the month.

This thread title is X36 "huge, tremendous, fantastic feature addition"? Upman's original post was also in a X36 thread. This leads me to believe it is a firmware update for both radios. Everything else here is speculation. I don't think MOTOTRBO can be added via a firmware update.

Not true. At least, not with the information we've been given.

Older Uniden radios did not have certain hardware components that were necessary to handle decode of multi-slot voice channels, i.e. TDMA. TDMA is employed in P25 Phase 2, MotoTRBO, and other digital protocols.

People with more knowledge of the hardware inside the newer radios (and are on this forum) will tell you that the newer radios have what is needed, physically speaking, to decode MotoTRBO. IIRC, an earlier post in either this thread or the one it spun off from made reference to a 455kHz filter.

Ah, yes, I never said "increase sales" (although I hope it does). And, my opinion of the feature's merits might be somewhat biased.

Why the games.. ??? why don't you just tell your customers what is in the works instead of trying to build up buzz that may eventually let people down when they find out that it might not be TRBO.. don't get me wrong I would be delighted if it was TRBO but I am not holding my breath..

As I see it so far.. Uniden seems willing to standby and watch prospective customers flock to buy TRBO radios from either Motorola, CS systems or AOR.. so why would they add it now?

Have you been here on this forum for the past 18 months? He's continually explained this (in his signature) the reasoning behind not advertising things before they're out. And Uniden just went through a total ****storm after they promised something before it was ready. And now you are complaining because he isn't making a future feature known before it's released?

Yeah actually I have.. and by telling people to be expect something big he IS advertising something before its out..

To go by your statement.. why would you build up any excitement at all unless your ready to release it if your worried about lawsuits..

If they are so worried about what people think why would they try and drum up excitement that is guaranteed to let some people down.. one guy is thinking he is getting TRBO, one guy thinks he is getting NXDN.. etc etc.. just be honest and upfront.. the secrecy is what makes people mad.

And once the update has been released, what if some of us don't consider it to be "big" or even a "big deal?" Can you imagine the flack that UPMAN / Uniden will receive?

In my mind, the only thing all of this speculation is doing is setting us up for some sort of disappointment. The update is not going to include features some of us have hoped for, so we'll be giving the middle finger (or worse) to Uniden once again.

Once again, just my $.02, for whatever it's worth.

Oh man...rough crowd here.

If someone chooses to get their hopes up about something they would like to see happen, and is bummed out when it doesn't happen, that is their own fault, not UPMan's. I just took it that Paul was excited about it and wanted to share something positive for a change. Nothing more. But I don't have any big expectations. Hopes? Of course. We will see when it is finally released. But having a little "fun" guessing what it could be is harmless, unless you make yourself mad about it.

I'm with Jay on this. I believe DMR could be done. Maybe they even planned it back in the beginning but had to work on all the new software to address this new mode with all its features. Surely, that would take a lot of development and testing time before you could roll it out. But...if it is not the new feature to be, I'm not going to get mad about it. Whatever it is, I anxiously await. After all, something is better than nothing.

DMR or other modulations are not possible on these X36 hardware platforms. Its physically impossible and everybody needs to keep in mind that these radios all ready had and still have hardware related issues. So to try and throw other modulations into the mix is nearly impossible..

So please do not hope and pray for this. It ain't happening

I believe the hardware is fine for DMR.. So I am not sure where you got that idea.. its always been about Uniden adding the feature.. or getting licensed for it.

The proof is in the pudding. The radio is a flop so far. The writing has always been on the wall.

Plus there has never been a radio in scanner history that has added another modulation once the radio has been released. Phase II TDMA has never been added as an add-on to Phase 1 FDMA scanners.

Stop smoking weed everybody and get back to reality. Uniden has had a really bad track record in the past two years, so stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

To end this debockle Uniden can't even get their Firmware updates correct. How is it going to be possible to add another modulation??????
