• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello! I am trying to get my XPR6550 and my TYT MD-380 to work together when I press the man down button. I have the "emergency decode" fields checked and my issue is that my XPR WILL decode the man down on my designated emergency channel, however, my MD-380 WILL NOT decode the packet but does receive a signal. Is there a specific field or adjustment that I have missed? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Is there any way to fix it?
This is going to sound harsh but it's an MD 380, not a Motorola. If the Motorola decodes from whatever system you have and your 380 doesn't, I'm going with it's not compatible. Motorola tends to do things slightly off of DMR standards to be proprietary though.

I'm really hoping that this is something you're experimenting with and not an actual usage of a MD380 on some sort of an important system.

The use of a $100 radio on any important system is just foolish ;)
But I am just testing the two radio's on DMR simplex frequencies and found the emergency function so I thought it would be cool to implement. It was one of those "for laughs and giggles" kind of things. I appreciate the help! :)

Check that the XPR6550 is set for messaging as "DMR standard" - rather than MSI or "proprietary". There's also some settings for "data confirmed" - but I'm not looking at a codeplug right now to tell you. I'm also thinking that there were some firmware updates along the way that fixed some of the DMR standard compatibility issues with the 1st generation MotoTrbo units.

The MD380 is impressive as hell for being a first generation unit. Once they get some of the bugs worked out & fix a little of the massive desense, it's going to be hard to justify spending 4 or 5 times more for a "branded" unit that has fewer features.

The lack of customer support, and the lack of warranty service make NOT buying a TYT an easy choice.

At least with CSI you have a North American point of contact, who stands behind the products he sells.

Rule #1 Never mix radios on a system.
Rule #2 Only mix radios on a system if you are only talking and not using SPECIAL FEATURES.

Rule #3 If you have to call China for warranty support, don’t waste your time.

Good Rule. I have 2 380 UHF and 2 380 VHF they all 4 are like toys I have not ever used my 380's for FIRE DEPARTMENT use for that I use EF Johnson 51SL 800, Kenwood TK2180 soon to be replaced by a NX5200, and also my Kenwood NX5300.

We talk about Scanner Club instead. Now thats an open forum. LOL If you show up to scanner club with a scanner and radio then you can join radio club with out talking about it. But make sure the radio has proper programming or risk it turning into fight club.

Hold on the head pumba is calling me. I have to give the secret hand shake so cant type any more.
