Why do you insist on saying that this wasn't delayed by Uniden?

Well, it might have something to do with the fact that it wasn't delayed by Uniden. As documented very well on THIS site, it is the WiFi manufacturer who was responsible for the 12 month delay in getting the WiFi working so Uniden could finish the features.

Since Uniden and the end users had the hardware, it wasn't really possible to switch to another manufacturer to finish the firmware for the WiFi dongle.

What you are suggesting is the same thing as hiring a builder who quotes to build you a beautiful new home with a stunning backyard and pool. The builder hires a sub-contractor to build the pool and landscape the backyard.

You pay the builder up front. The builder says he is finished with your home but due to the extremely poor choice of sub-contractor the backyard is mess and the pool is nothing more than a pit in the ground. 18 months later part of the pool is finished but the yard is a mess and there is no filter system. A friend asks your advice on hiring a builder and you say " Hey everything is great except the backyard and pool but that was not the builder's fault"

Good example! Just add one more thing to your hypothetical example. If there was only one pool contractor, and they delayed the pool, is it fair to complain that the builder didn't finish the pool when they had no control over the pool contractor? What choice is there but to wait for that pool contractor to finish? Now, what do you do when they say "two more months" several times throughout that wait? Your choices are to not build the pool and violate the contract or wait for the contractor. Either way, you are totally sc***ed and will have ticked customers even though you did nothing wrong. That's exactly the case here. I for one understand that.

Again, this is all documented by Uniden in the thread about the delay. There is zero evidence that Uniden was not completely correct about their posts that document the matter.

Siren on Android - Vaporware?

You'll get the same answer I give here...without the wait time. It is being worked on, now. I do not have a specific release date.

Mr Upman, it's nearly time for another quarterly progress report on the Siren app for Android. Your loyal customers certainly would appreciate a little info.

Honestly the facts are simple, I purchased a scanner from uniden that advertised WiFi capabilities, upon receiving the scanner I discover that there is no WiFi capability, only a promise that it's being worked on. This is simply false or misleading advertising, the scanner should never have been released until it had been tested and proven! There are many analogies that could be given but the facts are facts!

I for one am not willing to give Uniden any pass just because they can blame delays on the contractor. They sold the radio and accepted payment.

In the real world of your crazy hypothetical examples Uniden is the general contractor, who would have been docked a significant portion of the value of the contract for not completing the contract on time. They are in charge of the project and the subcontractors.

The moral of this story is that I will never buy another pool and pay Uniden in advance again. I will wait until they build the pool, find out if it leaks, what they are doing about the leaks, and then make a determination if I want a Uniden pool or not.

The iPhone has a diving board. The Android doesn't even have a ladder......and the coders can't swim. But you know whose fault it is..............George Bush

Just a guess Voyager... we have heard nothing from Paul other than its in development. If there was a date of completion he would let us know. So its all speculation.

Understood. As for the completion date, I think the posted expected completion dates of the past may have him gunshy.

meanwhile back at the uniden ranch, while we're waiting for the missing piece of our product that we clearly paid for up front, uniden instead of pursuing this issue head on and taking full responsibility for the "mishap" it appears as though the stance that is being taken by UNIDEN is basically "too bad" and "we're sorry, we're working as hard as we can to get this fixed". I call BS, i keep seeing new UNIDEN scanners come to the market even while we wait for our complete product!
fact is i'm not even sure how much i would use the app but I did pay for it so i obviously want it.
I work for a company that manufactures product for various customers, now if we ship the product to the customer and they open the box to find that some of the components are missing or doesn't fit properly, first we get a phone call, our apologies are conveyed and then we remedy the issues as expediently as possible, usually within a day or two! some customers are very understanding some not so much! sometimes the issue is totally on us a manufacturing defect, packed the wrong components...etc but sometimes the issue is that the component was correct but the vendor is at fault for improperly manufacturing, mislabeling....etc, regardless of what the issue is the product was purchased through our company and it is our responsibility to accept and remedy the issue. now being in manufacturing i realize that sometimes things are going to happen, but "NEVER" in the 23 years that i have been in this plant has it taken 18 to 24 months to take care of our loyal (or new) customers issues.
it appears as though uniden has put this on the back burner, and even worse waiting on some of their customers who have skills and abilities to develop the software to bail them out!
the worse part is, I feel as though i've been stuck with an incomplete product and have no recourse!
everyone is asking the same question "when?" only to get a sarcastic response.
so uniden! not when but WHY?

Well. Add the fact that the screen is dying on the radio while the above is going on and Uniden appears to be not responding at all to that either, and I think you get a pretty good indication of just how important Uniden believes their customers are.

My screen is maybe half as bright now compared to when new. Man I really don't want to send this unit back again (1st sent back for headphone jack).

This sucks :(

Oh and the Android App would be nice. It would also be nice if I could use my iOS App with a Bluetooth speaker.

Bought my 536 on pre-order. I've been waiting for the Android app since day one, like others. I, too, have to leave my unit powered on all of the time so the battery doesn't die. Speaker sounds like sludge. With the way Uniden has treated their customers so far with this product, it's only reasonable to surmise that "late June, early July" was merely a convenient ploy to get someone off the phone expeditiously.

They've had problem after problem with this thing. Sometimes that happens and I understand that. However, a respectable company will come clean up-front, acknowledging the problem(s), communicating remediation efforts, and listening to their customers. Instead, Uniden leaves one of their engineers to give sporadic and incomplete broadcast updates on a 3rd-party internet forum. Meanwhile, the product is still being hawked unabashedly on their web site, touting the broken and/or missing features.

This would be a great example of customer neglect and maligned communication for business schools to study.
