The picture of the quick keys with all check marks just tell the scanner which ones are allowed to be used and/or available. To use quick keys, you have to edit the profile and assign quick keys to a favorite. To add quick keys to systems, sites, and departments, you have to edit each favorite list and add them. No quick keys just means everything is going to get scanned with no easy way to turn off systems, sites, or department that you are tired of listening to.

@dallascowboys - did you make the changes I suggested to change the RAN 1 to RAN 9 for all 5 frequencies in the entry called Enterprise which is part of the City of Enterprise Public Service System which is under County Systems? If not, you won't pickup anything on that trunk system. Elba is on the S&P truck system and it needs to have the entry called Enterprise (PD) in order to hear Elba police and fire. That entry is under Statewide Systems. Not sure which version you have, but if you have the one called Elba it show RAN 8 which is not what Elba appears to be using. The screen shot @jjl0412 posted shows they are using RAN 9.

In the picture just above (middle) shows what @jjl0412 is using for the frequencies and apparently working because he is hearing the traffic for Elba. You can rename Enterprise (PD) to just Enterprise like above without hurting anything.
Yes did ALL the above

@jjl0412 - if you don't get a lock on and talk on STREETS for a while, you can go thru the menu system and turn on avoid but that is permanent and won't reset back to scan by just turning off and then back on.

Hi Dallas, i am considering a mobile antenna for my 436 also. My radio is sitting next to a bct15x in my living room in a corner. No window access. Would a mobile work ok in the situation? It will be magnetic, so i will have to set it in a small metal pan.i have it hooked to a centerfire discone now for testing and i get geneva, ozrk, n elba.. but unless i run 20 to 40' coax to garage, wife would disown me...
should work but instead of a small metal pan use the tall bake bean can works great .

Hmmm.. more thinking time. Since @jjl0412 is receiving some stuff that you aren't, I am stumped for the moment. I am not sure how far you are from Enterprise or Elba, but most cases without a outdoor antenna, the range is max at around 15 to 20 miles on a good day. He is only 5 miles away and receiving some it. The fella that posted the frequency tables above said he lives 30 miles from Enterprise and having no problems hearing Enterprise PD but his broadcast site says he is using an outdoor antenna mounted 15 feet above ground.

@jjl0412 - have you tried doing the AVOID on the STREETS entry when is locked on and talking? If not, try that real quick. Try for about an hour and if still don't hear any PD, just power the scanner off and back on resume to scanning the STREETS entry.

Are you still hearing Enterprise FD and EMS on the trunk system like you did last night?
no and I will do that to see if that makes things work.

yes..no changes other than
Elba police and fire were 5x5 later last night. I have made no changes and not sure what you mean about locking out conventional on st

Both gentleman, if the weather is ok, try taking the scanner outdoors and get in a clear path toward Enterprise. The Uniden stock antenna struggles inside houses. You should see an improvement.

If your weather is like mine, 31 degrees, mix of rain and snow, well dress warm. :)

I have it connected to a centerfire discone anetnna right now for testing.. I can pick up a fairly good distance. Going to buy a good mobile for inside the house after radio is doing right.

By locking out or avoiding a channel or entry just means the scanner won't stop on that frequency to see if there is traffic. That way it won't see the frequency being used in conventional and should only see it being used in Truck mode in City Of Entr Trunk

The important thing on distance is where is the actual repeater is located. I just looked that up and it is on Hwy 167 (Neal Metcalf Road) north of US 84 near the corner of Commerce Drive on a water tower. The repeater is 129 feet off the ground and has 100 watt output. That should make it pretty strong for a least 20 miles.

So it looks ok, even though no quick keys are used?
