• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello Forum.

I would like to know whether a Apx 6000/8000 housing can be slapped onto Apx 7000. The reason I'm asking this is because there are colored housing for the 6000/8000 but hardly none for the 7000 and I want to know what, if anything, will stop me from using a 6000/8000 housing on a 7000. I'm not too concerned about voiding the IP rating. Other than the top side button being different, it should still act as a normal button, just shaped differently. The 6000 and 7000 share the same top control head (non XE). The Apx holsters and carrying clips are usually universal so I'm under the idea that the housings should fit fine if they fit the same holster. But thats why I'm here asking.

Let me know what you think! I'll like to see if what the differences are. :)

They will not fit. The 7000 is taller than the 6/8000. There are blue/black, red/black, orange/black housings and the yellow or green housings with corresponding speaker grilles (only black, yellow or green) available though.

The APX8000H appears to be the same height as the 7000 but the display is smaller (and there might be other dimensional differences).

I think the 8000H is a size in between the 6/8000 and 7000. I have no idea why they created an entire new case series for the 8000H when they could’ve gave the H a nice bigger screen like the 7000 had.

Orange as well for the 7K, I'm wearing one on mine. I'm going back to black, so mine (orange housing) is probably for sale. PM me if interested... Unit is as new.
