Hi! Thank you! Ok I checked and it *does* have v2.0.50727! It also had a version 3 point something and a version 4 point something, though - I tried a .net framework repair thing but Sentinel still acts the same . . . :(

I have something called 'Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable' in my programs list - should I uninstall this and reinstall it somehow? I don't have anything else in the list that says anything about Framework . . .

I do agree that it has something to do with this .net Framework thing, but I have no idea what it even is! Let me know what to try next! Still determined to get this working!

Thank you, ProScan (Bob)!

In Windows 10, .Net is handled through the Programs and Features, Turn Windows Features on or off.

If you show the .Net Framework 3.5 with a black square, then it is installed. If you want, uncheck the box and let it uninstall, then recheck the box.

Do you know about the Winkey+X menu?

Personally I still think you need to uninstall Sentinel. There are times when an update may not be able to replace some files. I did have to reinstall Sentinel once on this Windows 10 install, but I don't remember why.

I don't recognize the XNA framework but perhaps it was downloaded thinking it was .Net.

If you don't think you need to install Sentinel again, then you might try the commands below for Windows 10. The first one checks the system files. The second one may repair problems seen by the first command. It won't hurt to run the second command but may not be necessary.

Give the commands time to finish, it does take a little while .. 15 minutes or so.

Open the Winkey+X menu or right click the start button. Select "Command Prompt (admin)" and allow permission to open.

Type these commands one at a time and leave a space in front of all / .

sfc /scannow

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.10240.16384

Image Version: 10.0.10240.16384

Did you try the repair on ver. 2.0? I wouldn't touch 'Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable" at this point as something else may break.

Ok I uninstalled Sentinel and then uninstalled/reinstalled Net 3.5 and reinstalled Sentinel. No help. So I uninstalled Sentinel and then uninstalled/reinstalled Net 3.5 AND Net 4. No help. Then I uninstalled Sentinel and did the sfc/scan thing and the restore thing and reinstalled Sentinel from the radio itself as an administrator. No help.

As for repairing ver 2.0 - how do I do this?

Man this is all so ridiculous . . . :(

I belive you have a driver issue.

But at this point I would follow this path.

1- bottom left of your windows 10 screen
type in thispc (one word)
in your search bar.
hit enter.

2-click on your c drive
3- click on program files x86
4- click on uniden folder
5- delete bcdx36hp sentinel
6- reboot your computer

7-Download the latest version of sentinel from here
http://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-forums/322676-bcdx36hp-new-firmware-sentinel.html

8- extract file and install

9-read this page and download and install drivers
BCD536HP < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

10 these are unsigned drivers and must be installed using this method

How to Disable Driver Signature Verification on 64-Bit Windows 8.1 or 10 (So That You Can Install Unsigned Drivers)

I would print out page in step 9 so you can look at it while installing drivers.

Hope this works for you .

Ok I'm attempting 1-8 right now . . . as for step 8 - it's not connected with a serial cable, it's a USB cable. Why would I want com port/serial drivers?

EDIT: Ok I tried the driver thing even though it's serial and it said the most current drivers were already installed.

I have the digitally-signed-driver thing turned off and I uninstalled and re-installed Sentinel and it STILL. WON'T. WORK. I may burst into tears at this point . . .

The USB cable is not really involved if Sentinel will not start on the computer. Plus Windows 10 does not need any drivers.

Have you tried disabling the Anti-virus? Does the Anti-virus have a log file, or can you turn logging on for it?

Maybe you answered this, but when you try to start Sentinel, what happens? An error message of some type? Have you checked the task manager to see if it is already running?

The .Net 2.0 is part of the 3.5 section.

Edit: You might even try going to this folder and starting Sentinel from there.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Uniden\BCDx36HP Sentinel\

Ok I disabled AVG but Sentinel still wouldn't open. So while AVG was disabled I uninstalled and reinstalled Sentinel (as administrator). Sentinel STILL wouldn't open.

I can't find an AVG log file anywhere.

Once again - here's what it does when I click the Sentinel icon on the desktop . . . a little window pops up for about 5 seconds that says 'Sentinel has stopped working. Windows is searching for a solution'. The window is only up for like 5 seconds and then disappears. Sentinel never actually opens and is never listed in Task Manager. We click the Sentinel icon like we always have, the little 'Sentinel has stopped working' window pops up for a few seconds and then closes, and then nothing else happens. No blue screen, no Sentinel opening, no error messages, no Windows help screen. Nothing. The same thing happens when I use the *.exe icon in the Sentinel program folder.

Just a thought - but that desktop icon is just a shortcut.

Drill down to the file location and try from there.

I have very little left to suggest. But I did just get two large Windows 10 updates, maybe something will change with one of those. KB3105210 & KB3106932

I just upgraded to Sentinel version 1.05 which still works for me in Windows 10.

If you want, check the event viewer to see if any error messages are generated around the time you try to open Sentinel.

Right click the start button for the menu and select Event Viewer. When it opens, make sure "Event Viewer (Local)" is selected and give it time to read the logs.

Click on the Error + sign and expand the Error list. See if anything in the list mentions Sentinel. If nothing in the Error list, check the Warning listing.

You may have to buy a program like
System Mechanic and run it.

Is sentinel the only thing not working on
Your computer.

Reading all your posts this started after a Windows
Update.
Six months ago Windows 10 was still in beta mode.
Are you sure your computer has the full release
And not a beta ?
Just reaching for a solution hard to figure out without actually
Having access to computer.

Using the actual *.exe file (instead of just the desktop shortcut) has already been suggested and tried - doesn't help.

I will try Event Viewer the next time I'm at my parents' . . .

As for Win 10 update - I asked him again the next day and he said he actually thought it was an AVG antivirus update and not a Windows update (and yes I've tried disabling AVG it didn't help).

Yes- Sentinel is the only thing having any problems on the computer.

Thanks so much everyone - this is insane . . . I even contacted Uniden directly a few days ago and have heard *nothing* . . . :/

Have you checked the antivirus quarantine folder to see if a required file for Sentinel has been quarantined?

Just a thought.

K I looked at Event Viewer but don't really know how to use it. I opened it and then clicked Sentinel and it did its normal not-working thing and so I went back to the Event Viewer window and looked around but didn't see anything that meant anything to me.

AVG's version of quarantine folder is called Virus Vault and I opened it and it was empty.

:(

I can't help but think the issue might be with the .NET

Maybe try removing and reinstalling that.
