That's what I thought as well Kevin and Mstep I didn't want to overstep or simply lie and send it in. I was hoping Paul would respond to the question. I could wait if they are committed to fixing everybody's scanner. I'm sure they know pritty much how many people who bought one of their scanners. How many 536's did Uniden sell? I have one of them. When I get home from work I'll go on their website and submit a ticket if they send me a label I'll pack it up and off she goes. If not I'll wait. I'm very happy they are in fact going to take care of us.

It might also have to do with the fact they only have so many techs, and they can't fix them all at once.

That said, it's nice to know a fix is imminent.

I figure since they have the RTC parts on hand they are starting with it first. As Voyager said they only have so many folks on hand to make the repairs. UPMan stated that those units sent in for RTC repair will be checked over for DIM LED displays. Also if you add a note, they will be checked and fixed as needed. I'm guessing but once the RTC repair has died down (Oct/Nov), then Uniden will be working the LED issue in a similar fashion. The battery parts were just the first to come in. Folks sending in there scanners for the RTC should also cover many of the LED issues which will make the LED Campaign go much smoother. As far as Warranty, I believe Headphone, RTC Battery and LED will not be an issues since it has been mention Uniden has permit fixes for these issues. Any other problems will have to be covered by Warranty and I haven't seen many reports of other problems. Again, this is all just speculation.

Curious

Just wondering if Uniden is still producing the 436 and 536 with these issues out of the factory? I would like to try another 436 but if it has the dim screen I don't want it When these issues were discovered a year and a half ago production should have been halted until a fix was ready. Instead they kept and probably are still putting them out. How to know if you can buy one that doesn't require sending it in?????

I have been following the conversations in this thread and was wondering what exactly is the technical explanation for the issue that users are having with both the clock and led issues? Is it just a bad batch of batteries, faulty led's? As a potential buyer in the near future I would like to know and I think others that have purchased units have a right to know. Thankfully Uniden is fixing the issues with the units. Uniden for me has always been a great company to work with and does produce quality products however I feel like we as consumers have a right to know.

Does this recall change the clock circuit so that it is continually powered from the 13.8vDC line, even when the scanner is off for an extended period?

I wish I could agree with you about a future LED campaign, Dan, but Paul didn't say that. I read it that if your LEDs are defective, and your scanner is out of warranty, you pay for the LED repair. Only the RTC issue and headphone jack issue are no charge if it is out of warranty. That is no assurance they are going to start any LED campaign and take care of that issue. And he won't answer the LED question many have asked.

So maybe I have to see if I can get my RTC batteries to fail. Maybe then I can get my scanners fixed. How freaking ridiculous! That is NOT TAKING CARE OF THE CUSTOMER.

Well lets hope they cover the LED under warranty. If not why even mention a permit fix. If they were just wearing out from prolonged use than a permeant fix is not required.

Hi, I am a new member who recently bought a BCD436HP, I have been reading about the RTC battery issue, but I don't see anywhere in this thread or on the repair request form page a clear definition of the problem. I know my radio looses the RTC backup after being turned off for a few days, but will retain correct time if just turned off for a few hours. Does mine qualify for this repair program?

Wondering why Uniden just does not recall all unsold units from dealers and replace them with repaired units so as not to put anymore defective units into consumer hands and then repair the consumer recalls

The issue is that the battery won't hold the time for much of any time (not even an hour). It is supposed to hold it for about a week when the battery is fully charged.

A couple of days? That's in neverland where it doesn't have the full blown issue, but is starting to show the symptoms.

This may be my dumb question of the day. So, here it goes.

I'm everywhere Focker!
Has anyone got any shipping labels? I haven't got anything as of yet.

Yes, received mine last Friday, shipped it Monday and it's been received by the service department.

If you put both a 436 and 536 on the same request you won't get a label until the 436 parts arrive (noted as November by Paul).

ok I tried to re register but Uniden wants to know what city I purchased it in. I bought this thing on Ebay and have no clue what city he was in,so the question is am I screwed here? Can Uniden get around needing all this information? If anybody knows a workaround please let me know what to do. Thank You for your thoughts and incite!

I believe Uniden doesn't honor eBay purchases. You don't happen to have a 3 year warranty sticker on the back do you?

Why don't you just put in whatever town you live in?
