Wow are u serious this sucks no wonder why i haven't heard them for a while alrighty thank u for the info least we still get to listen to Cherry Hill Camden Metro and Gloucester Twp really miss listening to Camden County

I miss it too.

There is no real reason for Camden county or any public safety agency to run encryption other than paranoia on their own part. Something to hide perhaps. The public pays for these fancy radio systems with tax dollars, we should have the right to listen to our public servants. Have seperate encrypted channels for private talk if need be. For every day operations they should not be using encryption.

If this kind crap happens in Burlington county with our new system I will be front and center opposing this every step of the way.

Seems Bucks county PA is one of the few that are logical thinkers while emplying their new system. Having seperate encrypted channels for sensitive communications and everyday common traffic in the clear.

I know they launched a new system P25 Phase 2, is Camden city on the new system yet or are they still on the old system? If they aren't switched over to Phase 2 does anyone know when they are switching over?

I programmed a BCD436HP tonight and was able to pickup some of Camden from lower NE Philly. It seems like Camden Fire and Ems are switched over to the new Phase 2 system and the police are still on Edacs.

So for those of you who are going to ask questions, no your RadioShack scanners and older Unidens will NOT work with this Phase 2 system in any way shape or form.

The only models that will work with Phase 2 are:

Uniden BCD536HP
Uniden BCD436HP
GRE PSR-800

Whistler is also developing two Phase 2 capable scanners due out Q2 but they are just rebranded GRE models PSR-800 & 900.

Time to trade in and trade up folks!

From a trusted source, Camden City police join the new system at midnight tonight. And they will be encrypted like the rest. Only an hour or so left of monitoring.

So I'm correct by saying the police are encrypted but the fire and ems on North Region are not encrypted?

From a selfish listener perspective, that's a real shame. The Camden City system was really easy to listen to and got out well...I had no problem picking it up here on handhelds.

The only Fire channel that are encrypted are the Hazmat Channel. Everything for Fire and EMS are in the clear.

Does anyone know the fate of the Camden City Edacs system? Will it be deactivated or will it remain online for Municipal services? Or are they going to the county system as well?

I think parking authority is the only one using it now. Public works uses smartphone PTT service.
Funny there's 39 people right now listening to the Broadcastify Camden Police feed of basically nothing.

BTW I think that Cherry Hill is the last hold out. Winslow went over already, Pennsauken and Gloucester Twp. already have talk groups set aside for them when they move over.

Still at 39 listeners..that's my feed soon to go by by. I'm feeding it A1-05 from NJSP right now just for fun. I left a message on there for all my loyal listeners.:(

So we're eavesdroppers now. How soon the media forgets they have been eavesdroppers too before all these new systems were deployed. What a bunch of hypocrites. If Camden city wanted secure transmissions they could have went with provoice long ago like the DRPA did. Not totally secure but it would have kept the average scanner listen out.

As this system has taken hold - other than the County Police in Camden has any other town merge - joined the County Police or will be in the future, or are the local towns just joining the radio system only

I am basically sick of the mainstream media sucking up to TPTB. NBC10 did a segment when the County first switched to the system touting that encryption is the latest and greatest crime fighting tool. Give me a break.

Soap box on…. My not so happy predictions for the future

As more and more law enforcement agencies encrypt there will be less and less to monitor. (Already In central Florida around Orlando almost the entire metro area's law enforcement is encrypted). When more encrypt Uniden and Whistler will sell less and less scanners. When break even can't be sustained, they will either not put much R&D into the new radios or drop out of the market completely. It just makes good business sense. When that happens the scanner enthusiast will have to resort to home brew methods to monitor the airwaves. Basically go underground. It's funny that the hobby started with homebrew technology before scanners and will probably end up that way in the future. Full circle.

Lucky for us, if the scanners leave the market, we have enough communications engineers and coders to produce open source SDR based receivers. These technologies would not be limited by the manufacturer so technologies such as DMR, Turbo, Provoice, correct audio on narrowband analog, etc can be a reality. So a new dawn may emerge from the ashes.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 4.0.4; LG-MS870 Build/IMM76L) AppleWebKit/535.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/18.0.1025.166 Mobile Safari/535.19)

Amen, Joe. I'd hate to put this out in the public, but the reality is once encryption is more widespread some folks may (underground, of course) find ways to decode it. I'm sure the technology is probably already out there, just kept tightly under wraps. Would I partake? Probably, if the price was right lol
