an interesting unit, the big bronto. Fully extended the platform sits at around 167ft. It's the largest platform in Calgary. In days gone by the fire crews completed a course by reppelling out of the Bronto at close to full extension. The reason being was if the BB got stuck at full height, the only way down was to rappel or sit tight until fixed.

The Bronto has been stuck at least once near full extension with firefighters in the bucket...
Station #34 is now unofficially open.
It appears Tender #35 has moved over to #34 making them more North-Central in the city now which is nice

Actually tender 35 is still stationed at 35 and is not on the books to be moved. They often cover at 34 so you may have seen it there and it may have been sent there during the hall move which occurred about 2 weeks ago.

As for the fan..It has been purchased and is at the shop..Training began a short while ago on it.

Very recently CFD has placed Engine (E4402) - 2002 Sterling LT9500 / Superior (1250/1000/8A) in service as "34 Tender" Does anyone know the reason behind this?

Here is a pic of (E0616) at the shops

Due to the high grass fire conditions the sterling was placed at the new 34 as a tender. It was meant to go to 28 to cover nose hill but there isn't enough space in the hall. Good chance once the grass gets saturated that it won't be kept on duty

Thank you for the information yycwrangler!!! I know the "Special Event Unit" is at Station 28 and is probably acting as a Bush Buggy..

Do you know if there is a third MRU unit coming online? or if Engine 27 and 39 are going back to being straight Engines and not Quints?

Thanks

I was at the MAT Center the other day and saw a ton of the '98 pumpers parked along the fence like they were coming offline.

Also found this on my Facebook feed today from a fellow local FF (dare you to guess where):

Engine 50

On Sunday I heard Engine 50 on the CFD North Dispatch channel. They were at a broken pipe water leak call and since they were getting support from 12 Aerial and 32 Emergency, I am assuming they are a second Engine out of one of the NE stations.

Makes me sad... Redwood used to be 50, until Calgary started expanding rapidly... Oh well, I've driven 50 Engine before and that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. :)

Not that I know of, but every now and then an old-timer might slip and use old terminology. I know I do...

Too funny...... When CFD still had "squads" I was waiting for the day the city grew big enough for Station 51, with Engine 51 and Squad 51!!

I heard Engine 50 on the air as well.. I drove by stations 32/22 and even 40 trying to find it, but It's not their. Perhaps CFD renumbered Engine 27 to 50?

I thought the same about 27 since I have not heard them on the air. Engine 50 was working out of/covering Station 22 on Monday night

It looks like Engine 50 and Engine 27 are both in service? It appears both Engines made it out to the 3-Alarm fire in Cityscapes this morning.

Also CFD has put an add on order for 11 more Engines with Smeal

It looks like Engine 27 is running out of Station 31 with E1206, Engine 26's old Engine

Some Apparatus moves to tell you all about...
23 Highrise has moved to Station 5
12 Aerial has moved to Station 23
32 Rescue has moved down to 12
And I cannot confirm just yet.. but I would suspect there is an Aerial in 32 station (Finally!!) :)
