Does anyone know the plan for the "Squads" in the future? It's no secret Station 46 will be next after 45 but we already have an Engine 46. Will CFD go back to calling them Engine (Insert station number) A or call them for example: 12-1E or 12-02E or return to calling them Squads such as 12SQ?

The extra Engines/Squads will just move up in the numbering system like what happened to E47, it became E60. CFD has room in the numbering system up to 100. So we could see Engine 61 (again) Engine 70, 80, etc…

Anyone know the wheelbase of the latest Smeal/Spartan engines?
If Smeal hasn’t taken it down yet, it should be on their deliveries page on their website

Unfortunately, Smeal doesn't provide the same level of information as Pierce or SVI on their deliveries. I estimate it's around 180".

Makes sense that 46E, 48E, and 49E will meet the same fate as the former 47E. It would be nice to see 61E make a return.

So why purchase/operate a 6x6 instead of the 8x8 model of crash tender? Obviously cost and maybe maneuverability, am I missing anything big?

Different requirements and configurations. During an incident, I could see the different apparatus being assigned tasks specific to their special capability. Such as the truck with the Snozzle being assigned interior attack, or a truck with a nose turret being assigned suppression of the aircraft undercarriage.

Hey all, does CFD plan on replacing all 11 Ladders, or only the ones that are in stations with higher call volume? Only having 3 spares is definitely concerning and pushing all the older Ladders into spares. Selling a few would definitely solve that issue, but I have no idea what the logistics of doing that are.

Welcome to the thread Alberta_LightsNSirens! All existing Ladders will eventually be replaced and probably most of them will end up as spares. 10 or so additional Ladders will be added as well

That’s amazing! I’ve been dying for a station call there. I went sometime in July to ask if they still ran the annual hot response training to see how fast their response time is. Turned out they had done it just a couple hours before I got there.

I was trying to put together a list of tools and equipment an engine might carry. I know a CFD engine will not have everything listed below, but do CFD engines carry anything that is not listed?

High rise kit
Aquatic rescue kit
Rope rescue kit
Long tools (grass beater, squeegee, broom, hard rake, pole, hook, piercing nozzle)
Hard suction pipe
Medium tools (grain shovel, spade shovel, square shovel, sledge hammer, pick, axe, halligan, pry bar, pike, bolt cutters, bow saw, ziamatic bar spreader)
Small tool kit (mallet, hatchet, pry bar, bolt cutters, hand saws)
Hand tool kit
Combi-tool (spreader/cutter)
Power tools (reciprocating saw, drill) and accessories kit
Basic medical kit
Advanced medical / AED kit
Spill kit (booms/bags)
Absorbent buckets
Pylons
Ground ladders
Hydrant kit
Plumbing fittings kit
Hose monitors kit
SCBA bottles
Fire extinguishers
Cribbing
Lights kit
Ventilation fan
Decontamination kit
Cab cabinet (ice melt / grit, needle box, PPE, first-aid kit, radios, lights, stuffy, water, medical supplies, gas monitors, cameras)
Blankets and tarps
Tow kit (includes jumper cables and jack)
Wheel chocks
Chainsaw and rotary saw plus accessories
Supply kit (tape, paint, oil, zip ties, glue, rope)
Wildland packs
