Stoney Trail from the Trans-Canada Highway to Bow Trail is supposed to open tomorrow. This means Stations 29 and 35 will finally be connected with a faster response in those area's! Ladder 29 will probably be fielding some (more) calls in 35's

Some high quality updates to the "on order" section on Calgary FireWiki, based on Ladder delivery times and number ordered. It seems CFD will try and run the Rescues until the end of their life cycle.
Haha I’m glad someone noticed the wiki. I chatted with a couple ff's who are on the apparatus purchasing board, so I got filled in. Calgary wants their entire Aerial fleet to either be the 2023 Peirce Towers, 2023 Pierce Ladders and the 2011 Smeals. So the goal is to auction off the Brontos, sell TW19 and that Spartan Serius ladder, get rid of the 2008 Pierce, and give 30L back to Pierce. Makes a big difference if an operator only needs to operate 2 types of Aerials as opposed the 9 different types of Ladders we had before. Also, Calgary does have that brand new jet boat sitting in the shop, it’s hooked up to a 2000 BB right now, might go to 21.

Also, super excited about the Ring Road as I live closest to 29 Station. In order for 29 to get on the Ring Road, they go right by my house. So for that hall to start getting a little busier, it's big plus for me.

Most likely. They are still fairly new, so tossing them out in a year would be a waste of money. CFD will most likely use them as much as possible before phasing them out with Ladders. Even when they get phased out, I'm sure a few will be kept around to be added to the spare pool.
Maybe one might replace A/L 4 and one to replace TRS 10. It will be interesting to see what happens to them. I'll be disappointed if CFD does trash them because that's a big waste of money.

Looking at the Wiki I did not know the FRP's were getting replaced but seeing as they are 2009 units, I'm not too shocked. I wonder if they are gonna be ambulances like the current ones or something similar to VFRS' rescues. Also didn't know the BT's were getting replaced as well. It looks like CFD is now trying to replace everything now that all the Engines (with the exception of 43) are replaced.

I seriously thought that CFD would wait until the Ladders get replaced first, but whatever floats their boat I guess. These next few years are gonna look insane. Also I believe E0910 (Ex Engine 38) is gone from the CFD fleet. The extent of the damage was beyond repair, IIRC.

I believe Calgary Fire Filmer has a photo of the old truck and it's pretty messed up. Does anyone know the extent of 18E's damage? It had to be somewhat serious for it to be OOS for almost 6 months now.
Ya so those FRP's are going to be ambulances, but way smaller. They're going to be almost the same as FDNY's ambulance. Smaller ambulances with the cab of a pickup truck with a custom treatment centre in the back.

Sounds like the new FRPs will be a sight to see. I thought 30L was fully purchased by CFD. Didn't know it was still on lease. Is CFD really gonna sell Q1204? Thought it would be kept around as a training piece.

I don’t know how many 2011s we have, but that Pulse the 4 Towers and 5 Ladders will be more then enough. Maybe use one of those for training?

CFD has 8 - 2011 Spartan/Smeal Quints. So new Boat-Tows are coming in but no new Bush Buggies yet?

Fair. I meant more to replace the 2 - 2000 BB's and maybe add another one or two to the fleet. Replace the special events unit too

Hey guys. Is the current spare count for CFD ladders 3 or 5? Because the Wiki shows 2 Smeals, the Arrows and A0105.

4 at least. 6 Smeal's in service, 2 Spares. I saw A0105 at the shop a week or so ago being worked on, it was not being decommissioned. But maybe it still will be soon?

If I read the Wiki correctly it's gonna be 4 next year. 2 in 2025 and 2 in 2026. That's to replace the 2011 Smeal Quints.

2 ATV Trailers

Basically changed all full size apparatus to custom cabs. I think the increased cost is worth the increased safety, cab room (including SCBA storage), and the reduced wheelbase and turning radius. Makes for a more uniform fleet (although the pictures don't quite represent this). Changed the aerials from tandem to single-real axle for increased maneuverability. Added the trailers, and increased the Chief Trucks to accommodate some other positions.

Decent fleet plan, needs more Engines and staffing though and a pumping unit needs to be replaced by a pumping unit - Engine for an Engine. General rule of thumb is 1 FF per 900/1000 residents, NFPA/under writers also require a certain amount of literal fire pumping apparatus.

I'm trying to find the article, it was either based off of population or distance between stations/districts and overall density and coverage area.
Also, it has to deal with if there's a big fire or multiple fires. A city would have enough pumps to pump water. That's one reason why we have extra engines - extra literal pumps, more staff, able to cover other engines and so on. And one of many reason why the 2011 Quints were purchased. (All Quints run as dry sticks now and pumps are not used)

Interesting if you look at Toronto or other cities that don't have extra Engines or 2 Engines in 1 station but do have a lot of them, they generally have stations that are about 4 minutes or slightly more from each other where as Calgary has a 8-10 minute distance from stations and well, CFD doubles up some Engine companies

Hey, Lads. Does anyone know, or have any guesses on where the Pierce Volterra Pumper will go to when it arrives next year? I'm guessing it's gonna go to a busy station so the public can see it a lot, but also to really get a good test out of it. Station 1 comes to mind.

The one at the academy or the one in Belvedere?
I don’t know which rig (pool number) is parked in there. But what I can report is an Engine is parked in the first bay (left if you’re facing it) right up to the door. I saw it when I drove past.
