CHP 700 MHz Extenders

Not sure why the decades-old 42.44/42.28 pair is listed there as "Red2," but whatever.

Did they switch the CTCSS tone at some point? I noticed it's listed as 100.0 PL instead of 107.2 PL, is that accurate? If so, that might explain the change in designator.

I just put out a BOLO to my buddies in the Redding area to verify the PL. As late as the 1/21/2010 version of the DB they were still using 107.2, and I wasn't paying attention to the old familiar freqs' tones last night. Eyes on the road and all that, ya know :roll:

And back to the 700s specifically, somewhere I read that the CHP vehicles with the newest low-profile LED lightbars have the 700 MHz extenders installed. Anyone know whether that's true, partially true, or just a rural rumor? Only one of the 4 units on the stop last night, an SUV, had one of those lightbars.

The Whelen lighting package is part of the new Consolidated Patrol Vehicle Environment (CPVE), as are the 700 MHz extenders. So theoretically the cars with the LED light bars should have the new extenders installed. I don't know if they're always active, but I can say that where there are new cars, there is often a 700 MHz extender signal to be found.

I live in Redding and about 4 months ago they had switched their PL to 100.0. I thought it was strange and had my scanner also research the tones for 2 months and they have still only have used the 100.0 and have not been on 107.2 since the switch.

While i don't listen to CHP alot i still have them in my mobile. In the winter months their signal just doesnt go very far. I live about 1/4 mile from I-5 and so i am able to hear their extenders just fine. I still record the traffic on a nother computer. I have stoped streeming it about a year ago. its had for me to just hear the dispatcher running 27's all day.

I will monitor the new 700 freqs and give an update on the RR DB. I hope that information helps anyone.

Thanks mlangeveld and mikedaly. I heard both VRS 03 and 154.905 simultaneously last night, and the 700 MHz faded out quite a bit before 154.905 did. Luckily (for me) the thing involved two separate stops about ½-mile apart, so for a couple minutes I was able to hear back-and-forth relaying between CHP and TCSO on VHF high, low, and 700.

Humboldt CHP remains on their 42.54/42.24 green, PL 107.2, and I have yet to hear anything on 700 here, but I'll start listening louder now that I know the equipment is finding its way north.

hmm I thought they only had two cars installed with CPVE per division and some division with little more.

Its definitely more than 2 cars per division as I’ve seen multiple units parked side by side here in LA. I believe the small number was initially intended to allow each field office to have a vehicle to train on when first rolled out in 2011.

I know as of a January 2012 document it stated CHP was authorized to only procure 500 of its intended 2300 or so vehicles. But those 500 cars should trickle down as needed to field offices.

The whole project continues slipping further and further back as new vehicle funding is delayed. Virtually all of the radio gear has been acquired and gear is being assembled with harnesses and ready for install, but there are not enough authorized new vehicle feed stock.

I updated the Db with the new info for Redding.

Regarding the use of numbering (2, 3) associated with the colors, when the PLs change, the number changes as well.

For instance down here in SoCal, Blue went from simply Blue to Blue 2, and now Blue 3 as further PL change was made.
Can be kinda confusing as currently both Blue 2 and Blue 3 are used by the Comm center. Seems not all vehicles/radio have been reprogrammed Southern division wide!

I presume when all the upgrades are done with, colors will simply go back to their old and basic color designations.

I think it's more like 2-3 cars per area office. The Woodland and Yuba-Sutter offices are the only ones that have completed rollout of the new CPVE-equipped vehicles and 700 MHz portables, but most other areas now have at least a couple of the new cars in the field.

Heard VRS 07 (769.44375) repeating traffic from the Amber last night.
First time it's come up that I know of. I saw at least 2 different radio IDs come up so
I probably saw both the portable and the extender transmitting. I'll pay closer attention
next time....

CHP Northern Green (Humboldt) 700 Extenders VRS 01

I've just confirmed the 700 MHz VRS for CHP Northern Green (still on 42.54/42.24, of course) out of Humboldt Dispatch Center for Crescent City (95), Humboldt (16), and Garberville (105) units as

VRS 01 769.16875 / 799.16875 unable to get the NAC, but presumably DAD.

The vehicle using it was a Crown Vic, very clean and decked out in the latest configuration (for a sedan).

Heard a Hayward Area unit on the 700 mhz system for the first time. The unit was not too far from the home location, and reception was very clear (as you would expect for p25). They were on VRS09, as previously posted, for the AQA and KHA.

I updated missing Southern, Inland, Coastal frequencies along with adding alternate VRS pair for Border also.


While on this thread, I also understand there are default VRS frequency pairs for division wide frequencies such as Blue. Suggest members keep their ears open to nail those down also.

One other thing to note: all existing VHF extenders are being removed Statewide in favor of the 700MHz extenders. Replacements should complete middle to late July.

I'll see what I can find for any other channels.
