Yesterday at 3:35 PM COMM 29 was successful in bringing the Forest Net Repeater for Tone 8 back onto the system but Admin Net was still down late in the afternoon.

I see the running commentary about active transmissions. Is this stuff already in the database? Or existing information?

As a Database Admin can't you perform some queries and validate new information? I have no idea what your title or duties encompass but I am hoping you can help out and add in corrections as they are proven valid..

There is no list of changes being handed out by anyone so all I have to go on is what the USFS Comms Techs say they did to the system. This is good intel freely broadcast across the repeaters and not to be easily discounted.

This is a forum for discussion right? I am posting about USFS comms systems and happy to discuss it with fellow enthusiasts. I am hoping that we can stay on topic and discuss USFS frequencies, sites, systems and call signs.

Well, again...I'm trying to understand if your daily posts are just commentary or NEW information that we should be adding to the database? I don't see any submissions pending from you, so I assume it is just you posting daily activity. Is this correct?

My title is Global Database Admin. My duties are to process submissions when they are submitted to the database. We really aren't supposed to add information that is contained in forum posts, although sometimes it does happen.

And yes, this is a discussion forum, but I wouldn't really consider it a discussion as most of your posts go unanswered. So, I'm just looking for clarification on the point of the posts. If you are posting to get things added to the database, then you will need to use the submission area. If you are posting to let others know about status' (functioning/not functioning) of repeater tones etc, I would suggest logging into the wiki since it is kind of like a scratch pad for temporary changes or bits of information that isn't normally contained in the database.

Glad you cleared that up. You should view my efforts to collect and share information as a good thing. When the information is vetted it can be submitted. If you can actually help with the vetting that would speed up the process. Since you do not live near CNF, visit CNF or work in CNF I am would be interested in what you can contribute to the discussions. If your only concern is DB submissions then I guess it is just a waiting game as the information develops.

Yes, I actually live near, recreate in and often work in CNF. I have a very strong interest in what goes on and enjoy listening to some folks I've met..

Well, again...I'm trying to understand if your daily posts are just commentary or NEW information that we should be adding to the database? I don't see any submissions pending from you, so I assume it is just you posting daily activity. Is this correct?

I believe there has to be a logical approach to the collection of information and the final submission of valid information that impacts the database and the users.

1. Someone like me hears something on the radio and it might only be one transmission or it might be more.
2. Share the information here with others who may also be listening or have additional information
3. Try to validate the information through monitoring and discussion. (can be PMs or EMAILs)
4. When it is felt to be solid then make a wiki submission.

Earlier in 2017 my information was used to correct the database before I even had a chance to submit it. If I hadn't bothered to post who knows when the corrections might have happened.

And yes, this is a discussion forum, but I wouldn't really consider it a discussion as most of your posts go unanswered. So, I'm just looking for clarification on the point of the posts. If you are posting to get things added to the database, then you will need to use the submission area. There used to be a fair amount of discussion in the beginning of this thread and something seemed to dampen it. Most of my feedback comes in PMs and emails now. I only share what I am permitted to but often my public reply is an answer to the private communications because more than one person is interested.

So what if my posts go unanswered. Nobody is being forced to answer if they want to lurk. If Angeles NF comms seemed to be having problems it is interesting to know that a tech got out and fixed a duplexer. There is no logic in judging the post by the absence of discussion. That is not needed.

My posts are a record of activity that can be referenced by someone 5 days from now or 5 months from now when they are trying to resolve a question about USFS comms. Frankly less people talk about USFS than they those who discuss LAPD or CHP so low activity should not be so worrying to you. I have been posting on and off in this thread for about 2 years and usually my messages are spread apart by weeks. Not many people are interested in USFS so activity will always be low. Criticizing it forms a negative feedback loop.

I can try to improve things by also using the wiki as a scratchpad but I still want to get attention for the information by posting here in the forum.

Well, again...I'm trying to understand if your daily posts are just commentary or NEW information that we should be adding to the database? I don't see any submissions pending from you, so I assume it is just you posting daily activity. Is this correct?

You don't see any submissions because the information should be vetted and that could take weeks of monitoring. I can't monitor 24-7 so I post what I have ASAP and get it out there to share it. I don't sit on secret piles of information and hoard it in order to feel superior. I am glad to share what I hear and don't worry if it doesn't instantly turn into a long public discussion.

Frankly some folks don't want to deal with a lot of off topic chatter so they use PMs and EMAILs. Nothing wrong with that if it helps the hobby.

Thank You for finally asking about the continue post for this thread. I thought it was odd for somebody posting information about technicians on what they are doing daily and technical info that technicians are doing with the system and repeaters. I vote for this thread to be closed. I do not think the USFS wants information being posted all over the internet on daily activities they are doing. We surely do not want them to start asking questions.

You really need to go read the forum rules. I will help you out and copy them here. Have a good day.

(You and KMA371 are not moderators nor are you the OP)

• In an effort to keep the forums operating smoothly and information easily accessible you are required to post in the correct forum.

(This is not the place to post your "vote")

• All replies to a thread are to be on-topic or within reason. If someone posts a question about programming a Motorola trunked system in to a specific model this does not mean you can reply and ask how to program an EDACS system in to the same model. This is considered thread hijacking. Please respect the "OP" (Original Post or Original Poster) as they govern what the thread is about. If they want to take their own thread off-topic, that is their choice, not yours (OP: this does not mean you can self-moderate your thread; report the post(s) instead). When in doubt, create your own thread.

(None of what you two are griping about is remotely related to the OP's first post)

• Replies to a thread should be aligned with the spirit/intent of the thread. Replies that are meant to derail the thread or don't contribute to the OP's original intent are examples of thread crapping.

(Please stop crapping in the thread)

I wasn't griping about anything. I, as an DB admin, was trying to understand if you were trying to submit information, or spread information. It was my intent to help you.

Gents, it appears there's been a misunderstanding.

From what I can see, kma371 was trying to ascertain whether the information being posted was for the benefit of the database. Nothing more.

Any information pertaining to the Cleveland National Forest is on-topic for this discussion whether it be observations on daily communications or discussion of frequencies used.

Happy monitoring.

I welcome the information and its very interesting to me. I also think if its broadcast over a clear channel, its ours to discuss. Please keep this good info flowing.

Thank you Mike!

If there are any updates I will edit the Cleveland NF Wiki or PM a DB Admin directly if more is needed.

Jim keep it coming! Thank you for your valuable input and logging the traffic and intel. Some people simply don't know how to unsubscribe from a thread or ignore and move along. Other people seem to be fixated on the holy commercialization of the RRDB and focus only on submit submit submit submit.

USFS Region 5 is in the last hurrah of a massive region-wide rebanding and frequency changes. It takes a massive state-wide effort to discuss what's changing, how it's changing, how you or I might be able to detect changes in our own neck of R5, etc. Heck, I posted info today in another sub-forum for the opposite end of R5 and even some statewide Service Net intel that I don't think I've seen elsewhere nor is it in the holy database. Hopefully it can help make sense of R5 changes and understand the big picture.

Thanks! When reading that thread I see similar naysayers who actually offer nothing constructive but want to criticize and squash discussion. Fortunately higher ups support our efforts to gather information and flesh it out.

Cleveland LE frequencies have a distinctive two tone beep after the radio user unkeys. I just noticed that if they key up the analog side the un-key tone sequence is a High-Low set of tones and using P-25 mode selects a Low-High sequence at un-key.

As a longtime and now retired LEO dispatcher I have seen nothing that concerns a bit. He is not posting incident activity. The fact that RR lists the frequency rains on the theory nobody should be able to hear or know what they are doing.

Thanks Paul!

Hopefully the matter is well settled and we can get on with discussing what's happening in CNF!

You are correct!!. That will teach me to copy and paste, assuming the files were correct.

This page needs to be edited: https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?aid=4301

This forum will not let me go back and edit that post of mine.
