Those of you not familiar with DMA stuff might want to change the hold/delay times in Mike's ARC file to zero. With the number of frequencies and systems, speed is of the essence here. Using the default 2 second timings will slow things down a lot. Also keep in mind that you MUST assign system and group quick keys, if you import the data into FreeScan. Without doing this very important step, the scanner will 'scan' without actually checking anything.

Since we had quite an upturn in the milcom side this eve, I'll steal a bit from here and say that we have numerous milcom related files (in Excel .csv, FreeScan, BCTool, Scan Control and RadioMax formats) as well as links to the various trunk systems (except Montgomery, which wasn't known that it would be used until recently) on the CHM temp page. Remember those files with a .zip extension must be uncompressed before use.

You can then add Mike_s's Customs stuff quite easily. The links to the trunk systems will be very useful for those using the web service to program your scanner.

I didn't even think about that since I was mostly typing all the CHM freqs into ARC996 which took a while. I changed this on my scanner and also made a very stripped down group with only what I have been able to receive this week. I'll see how that goes and check the rest off and on.

No doubt you had your eyes crossed typing all that stuff in Mike. You did a nice job - I just wanted to throw that stuff out in case we have some new folks that have never done anything with DMA radios before. Nothing like spending all that time manipulating, only to get the infamous 'Nothing to Scan' message or have it scan real slowly.

Hopefully others will pick up your Excel file and import it into other formats. Unfortunately the Winxx programs aren't very friendly about imports like these, but it should be done for the new object oriented scanners - I'm willing to bet there were lots of folks who took advantage of the RS sales.

I'm going to redo your Excel spreadsheet slightly and redo it as a csv file with headers. Scanner programs can't import native Excel worksheets, but there are a few that do .csv imports.

Here is Mike's spreadsheet redone as a .csv file. Unzip it before use. It's been updated with the rest of the data in the newsletter. I'll work on BCTool and FreeScan versions of this data later today. I have some (frigid) errands to run

Here's Mike's file, plus the rest of the newsletter, plus my milcom stuff all in one FreeScan file. Unzip before using, of course.

Hold/delays set to zeros, system and group keys assigned. Be sure to change these keys as you need

Go for it. I did that last night when I was 1/2 asleep and that was the quickest way to do it. I wasn't actually expecting someone to import that file directly but maybe copy and paste the cells like in ARCx96.

Something else people might want to look at on the ARC996 files I posted is there ARE some dupes. With a BCD996, you can specify analog or digital so if you are importing into an app for another type of scanner, you might want to delete those dups.

INFO UPDATE:
The other day I heard radio testing on the Loudoun TRS on TG 2992. I posted this under the VA thread and "leonzo" posted that he heard it as well but also heard it IDed as "MWAA Mutual Aid". http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?p=980026#post980026

163.625 NAC 092 and 170.800 NAC 098 are really active currently. Unfortunately it's encrypted.

Just found a freq I've never had before around here. 172.725 NAC 47C in the clear, too early to ID yet.

Here we go - Mike's file in BCTool format for the 396, along with the milcom stuff. Both of which, it seems, would need some updating, but that shouldn't take very long ...73 Mike

According to Dec. '08 issue of Capitol Hill Monitor, 163.6250 is a USMS channel for Baltimore. 170.8000 is a USMS channel for "DC NW."

http://www.henney.com/chm/1208/chm1208.pdf

I've found that all those USMS channels are encrypted 99% of the time. I can hear a bunch of them from Fredericksburg, and they're all active at the same time, so they're obviously linked.

If you are using the .csv file I posted earlier today, and loading it to another app besides FreeScan or BCTool, please consider posting it for the benefit of everyone.

If you zip the file up (and you should), just announce on this thread what app the file is for. You can attach a file via the 'manage attachments' button below where you reply to a message.

edited DC file for WIN500

I uploaded a file to the WIN500 Yahoo group for Washington DC for inauguration day. A lot of Fed tags need to be added, but It is loaded with local PD/FD, WMATA, Feds of all kinds. After looking here, I need to add some more freqs and defintely add some tags.

This is for the Pro-106/197 GRE 500/600 Scanners using Win500 software.

MPD/DC Police trunking table corrected on file for download. *18 Jan 09*

The system designated POTUS seems to be the old analog Arlington system.

Mike_s see earlier messages in this thread. I posted FreeScan and BCTool files, both of which should work with the 996. The BCTool file is for a 396, but it should be a snap to load into a 996.

Jeff, thanx vy much for sending down the Win500 file. That will help program the 4 object oriented scanners; now all we need is someone to create a file for the old BC250/296/785/796 and the PRO96/2096, and most all the digital trackers are covered one way or another

[edit] Links for those 2 apps;

Freescan: http://scannow.org/
and the user manual is at: http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/FreeScan_User_Guide

BCTool: http://www.bctool.org/ (use the beta version - it's really 'production' code)
