The same way the software decoders do that are currently decoding these channels?

Yeah, but none of the scanners have had firmware updates in forever, and a scanner manufacturer is only going to support things that are in demand. There were no "known" active TDMA CC sites in existence as far as any scanner manufacturer is concerned, before this past month, so naturally they would not have support for it and nobody should expect it to have been supported all along. This is a pretty new thing we are seeing, even if it may have been in the spec sheets for a couple of years.

Software decoders do it [now] because developers busted their asses, and at least three put out updates to support it within the week. Prior to a week or two ago, no publicly available software app or common scanning device supported it.

BTT, DSDPlus, OP25 didn't know how to decode it until they added support. Scanners wouldn't know how to decode it because no scanner manufacturer has released an update to support it and thus no scanner has support for it.

Looks like my laptop needs to be updated to the new FW for DSDPlus when I go travel in 3 weeks. This means I have to stop a few places in each county which can be a pain since there is no side roads on hwy98 I can sit without cars zipping by me doing 60-90mph. Looks like I'll need to write down the locations of each site. Has anyone seen any TG popping up for testing?

I was answering the literal question, not the presupposed one.

As far as I know, the specs have been out for TDMA control channels since phase 2 was first introduced, so it's entirely within the realm of possibility that some company had implemented the entire thing. Not likely given how scanner manufacturers seem to work, but...

And I'm very aware of how hard the devs have been working to implement this, and it's awesome. I'm impressed it's happened so quickly.

i apologize for slightly derailing this thread with the discussion on scanners and software solutions.

let's keep on track with just Duke for this thread.

Not quite. The Phase II TDMA spec was adopted in 2010, whereas the TDMA Control Channel spec wasn't adopted until 2017.

Has anyone able to decode the site(s) on the uniden sds 1/200? I see this under Sys Info A capital T with a yellowish background next to a site name indicates that the site is using a TDMA control channel. This site will not be able to be tracked by any scanner until a firmware update is provided. DSD+ (Fastlane), OP25, and (when updated) Unitrunker will provide rudimentary control channel data.
That's what I was wondering because I run the licensed frequencies in my area conventionally trying to get any signs of at least audio (like you would get from OpenSky)

Well that's good to know, helps explain why these are just now showing up. I had thought there was talk of the control channels possibly going to tdma when phase 2 started coming online, but didn't for backwards compatibility reasons.

you are seeing exactly what i see - only channel numbers in the cc activity box. mike is correct - cut and paste your p25.data file for 2d7..... the data is there!

Excellent post, you're contributing a lot. So how do you figure out the site names?

Wonder how many billions this whole system must cost. Why couldn't they just go conventional analog and be done with it? Then they can stop raising their rates and pay the employees better.

I would imagine the entire system will probably be in the ~100 million range.

Conventional analog doesn't allow for the data applications that this system will include. In my opinion this is a great move for many utility companies. The crews in the field need a reliable radio system. Going P25 could also allow all of the utility companies to interconnect these systems at some point and create an almost national wide radio system.

I would not be surprised if the American Electric Power and Duke Energy systems are already interconnected in some way, being that they are both employing the same TDMA control channel technology.
