Well, looks like it decoded the site id anyways. RMS value is pretty low, so signal on that might be too faint for DSD-FME. The RTL input method build in doesn't do the greatest job at delivering clean signal. You might try adjusting the gain to 0 for auto, that usually works a lot better unless the signal is a extremely close or something. I've found that using SDR++ and feeding DSD-FME with the TCP output from SDR++ and using RIGCTL to control SDR++ to be a much cleaner and reliable signal delivery.

I haven't used SDR++ and not sure I want to get into that, but we will see. Unfortunately it keeps going in and out on me, also sounds like it picking up voice traffic, but it is silent and not showing voice on DSD+FL.

Yeah, that build has a bug where random 4V pops may occur on marginal signal input due to duid decoding error. Its already been fixed in the audio_work branch.

Its honestly pretty straight forward to use, but again, may be one of those things you want or don't want to look into. I really need to get around to making newer up-to-date demonstrations of using DSD-FME in different scenarios. I had some up on youtube, but they were out of date and poorly done, so I ending up taking them down. SDR++'s signal performance vs using build in rtl (rtl_fm) is hands down, much better, but also uses more system resources.

Here are some more Aliases I captured this morning on Site 26 and Site 27, and also the bottom portion are a few I found in old capture files I ran looking for unique aliases. One thing of note that I found is that if you can catch the call in the MAC_ACTIVE state before the MAC_PTT and the voice starts, two distinct aliases are there, so that may be one for the TG and one for the SRC, or since this has tons of GRG Patches, could be Super Group member TG aliases? Just spit balling.

Great find, I can't wait until my local sites actually get active so I can play with this. Where do you find the call in the MAC_ACTIVE state?

Great find, I can't wait until my local sites actually get active so I can play with this. Where do you find the call in the MAC_ACTIVE state?

My observation so far has been when a call starts on the other slot on the control channel on TDMA that before MAC_PTT starts, it will shift from MAC_IDLE to MAC_ACTIVE, and then to MAC_PTT and 4v/2v for the duration of the person talking. I attached a snippet of log from a completed call session on the control channel. You can see the flow on it.

This matches the AlgID & SysID I've seen locally on site 397-46.46.
I wouldn't be surprised if they took the 1 cent single key upgrade from Harris. At least, I hear that is something Harris is/was offering on P25. They may all be using the exact same key value too for all I know.

Looking through the log, of a site without traffic, I noticed that it continues to update the encryption on (what I think are) all TGs. If I'm correct WGID appears to be talkgroups, but after the TG # the is another identifier which I wonder if it is the alias (WGID [60082][EAB2])? The identifier I am talking about remains the same throughout, associated with the same WGID. Portions of the log showing what I am talking about is attached.

Any thoughts on this?

Listened to Live Oak all morning, didn't get a single voice hit. But I did some digging on the PDUs and didn't even realize the control channel had been pumping out MFIDA4 Group Regroup Explicit Encryption Commands with alg id and key ids, this is what I was able to get on the Live Oak site.

All the supergroups with ALG 80 are in the clear, and those with alg 84 are using AES-256 encryption.

Noticing my logging of WGIDs are matching the logs @lwvmobile got in Florida.
[F300][62208] WGID [F600][62976] WGID [F400][62464]

Okay now I see the other four characters are the HEX for the DEC TG number, not the Alias. Oh well!

Yeah, those are PDUs that are constantly pumped out on Duke Energy. Its no different than an Identifier Update, Network Status Broadcast, RFSS Broadcast, Syncronization Broadcast, etc. Its not signalling the encryption used during a call. Its signalling a group regroup patch/simulselect structure with associated TG or RIDs in a supergroup configuration. Not sure why they wanted to put the ALG/KEY value in it, its a Harris thing. Actually, so far (unless its been updated) its the only Harris (MFID A4) PDU on P25 that is normative and in the TIA manual.

Its not to be confused with the encryption parameters found in the MAC_PTT/HDU/LDU fields (ALG/KEY/MI) and ESS fields during a call on Phase 2. Those actually pertain to the call in progress. This PDU is just a one way or two way patch with enc info in it.

Code:
6.2.91 MFIDA4 Group Regroup Explicit Encryption Command
The Group Regroup Explicit Encryption Command message is utilized by the
MFIDA4 Explicit Encryption method of the Dynamic Regrouping operation. This
outbound message is used to create, remove, or update a Supergroup Address
associated with member WGID(s) or WUID(s) with explicit encryption parameters.
The message format for the case where the GRG_Options field indicates “unit
address” (WUID) is shown in Figure 195 below. The message format for the case
where the GRG_Options field indicates “group address” (WGID) is shown in Figure
196 below.

The WUID and WGID message formats use the same B1/B2/MCO. The
GRG_Options field shall be used to determine if the Target Regroup Addresses are
WUIDs or WGIDs.

The Length field is set a follows for the WUID format shown in Figure 195 below:
Length = 8 + (number of WUIDs * 3) where 1 ≤ number of WUIDs ≤ 3

The Length field is set a follows for the WGID format shown in Figure 196 below:
Length = 9 + (number of WGIDs * 2) where 1 ≤ number of WGIDs ≤ 4

Well, I've been doing some more monitoring on SYS:2D7 Sites 26 and 27, and this is the short list of all accumulated talker aliases to date. It isn't much, but it is what I have.

Code:

I have also observed Talker Alias: FL-DCC-11_StPe occur multiple times immediately after the first call grant, and before the talking starts, but I cannot assign a SRC ID to it, as none is given, and a few slots after, the alias changes. Here is a small an example where the initial call grant is received, we then get one alias, then the channel user is updated, then another talker alias appears, and then the MAC_PTT starts which is the start of the talk spurt.

I believe when there are multiple src ids, this indicates a WUID (working unit id) which is and can be different from site to site, its a pool of unique working ids assigned to radios when talking across sites, and as such, is probably more dynamic in nature than a static value that always exists for that radio. Again, i could be wrong on that, but its just the best guess I got right now going on information from the manual. Anybody with more inside info on Harris or configuring Harris P25 feel free to jump in.

The other thing we notice, again, is SRC = 0 or SRC in the PTT not equaling the SRC value in the channel user update PDU. This could occur when talking from site A to site B, or is some sort of patching/simulselect behavior. I asked Boatbod about this, and he said he observed similar on a patched site, but had no discernible pattern to know when or why.

My last though, on Talker Alias: FL-DCC-11_StPe always occurring right after a call grant with no assignable SRC ID but changing before the call starts, I wonder if that is the alias of the super group, or if that is a dispatch console? Again, just tossing ideas out there, I can decode PDUs, but sometimes, trying to figure out the behavior pattern can be tough when SRC values change before calls even start and change seemingly during the same talk spurt, and multiple aliases arrive in the call setup before the talking even begins.

Anyways, that's my finding and ramblings on that, thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Well, we can add 16421346,D,MONT-23967-BBT,TG:64808,SYS:2D7,RFSS:26,SITE:26 as well, which leads to a pretty easy pattern to deduce for my area.

MADN - Madison, FL
MONT - Monticello, FL
TREN - Trenton, FL
WILD - Wildwood, FL
-
5 digits for unit/vehicle/lineman
-
TRK(truck), BBT (big bucket truck), SBT (small bucket truck), SBK(Small BucKet), I'm honestly just guessing on those, unless anybody knows any particular technical term they may represent as a lineman or energy company.

Is it possible that this could have something to do with a subscriber unit being on LTE instead of affiliated directly to the LMR system?

When it comes to the Duke system ... A LOT!

Duke Raleigh sites still silent but alive

Thanks, but it's you guys who actually have sites around you [or that you go mobile and sleuth out] that know the Duke system. I'm just guessing at that being a dispatch talker because I don't think anything but radios at the DCC would have DCC in the talker alias. Mobile units for transmission / line / distribution / customer service likely wouldn't have "DCC" in them.

Is the page for the old Duke Energy FL Smartzone system still online? I've noticed the link for it has vanished, just wondering if the page was still up by any chance for viewing. I was wanting to look at the old talkgroup values/names/descriptions and see if I could pair them with the newer values now that we have some hints with the talker aliases.

South/North Carolina - Duke Energy Progress Trunking System, Various, Multi-State

Looks like they have removed the Florida and Ohio Old Duke Energy System now that the new one is active, but you can search at the link below. Most of the results are for the old Open Sky System with no talkgroups listed.

Maybe @mtindor can tell us how to view depreciated systems.

@lwvmobile @RaleighGuy

I wish I could easily tell you how. I found it by searching for the wiki, finding the old system reference and then clicking on a link that linked to the old Smartzone system.

There has to be an easier way. but, at least the system you are looking for is in the link above.

Look at the trunked systems at the state level, there is a "deprecated systems" link at the bottom of the state list.

I've looked at at both Florida and Ohio and I'm not seeing where you mentioned. Will you please include a screenshot of the location or a better description on how to get there?
