"We really have no idea what will happen, there are the known effects, but no one knows what would actually happen."
Almost word for word what one of our AIT instructors said to us concerning the topic back in 1975.
"We really have no idea what will happen, there are the known effects, but no one knows what would actually happen."
I don't suppose someone has the cliff notes ?I do not think most of us can afford it-not the price.

There were communications and transportation a long time ago. With an operational vehicle, as previously stated, you will be able to use other vehicles as a source of fuel. I’d go for a two stroke Detroit diesel with an air starter. Zero electricity required to run one of those. No spark plugs or glow plugs to worry about. All you need is air and diesel. Just run an air compressor on an accessory belt and the tanks replenish for the next time you need to use the starter. It’s 100% mechanical.
As for comms equipment, you got me there… smoke signals should still work… but if you need transpo, that’s your solution. Or, ya know, a bicycle…

It will be the end of everything meaningful to Western civilisation, ----- so I just live day to day.
An EMP might cause an arc across the ignition points. That arc might weld the points together or vaporize them. Either way, the engine won't run.I had a 67 VW beetle that probably would have done well.
I don't know, Mother Earth News had an article many years ago about converting a Harley Davidson to run on alcohol, as well as using a wood gas generator for a vehicle (I think it was a pickup).Seeing all this discussion about if a vehicle will operate in a post-EMP environment has missed one point: There will be no fuel available, very shortly after the event.

Things to ponder. The US is the only country ever to deploy nuclear weapons, in anger, on foreign soil on a civilian population , twice. Yet we are the first to complain about any other country having a nuclear arsenal. It seems odd that we like to think we have the high road on all things nuclear.Oh wow, this topic continues !
Its probably more timely and apropos now than when it began- as our county melts down on so many fronts, - We are closer to a world war now than we have ever been in 70 years.
I have ceased to engage in worrying about it. I know full well from a career surrounded by what a nuclear war is all about.
It will be the end of everything meaningful to Western civilisation, ----- so I just live day to day.
For me it will come as a flash over the mountains as Denver and Colorado Springs vapourize,---- a brillant flash on the horizon ---and, as they say in the story books - "that will be that."
Party on !

However, as we pivot out of control on things like the economy, energy, etc.--- I offer this-- I saw one* recently and it was really cool

......its is virtually EMP proof, it goes about 40MPh, tops-- on a 2 stroke two cylinder engine--- it as nothing electronic and is touted as a vehicle anyone can repair. I saw quite a few of them in eastern Europe before the 'fall.' I just saw one like this about a month ago and it brought back memories.
Don't scoff- he way things are shaping up, there may be one in your future, Commade.

I had a 1966 Volkswagen Beetle.I had a 67 VW beetle that probably would have done well.
It could be the beginning of a rebirth of civilization? I'm not very impressed with what we have now and where it's going. Hopefully it wont be the big flash scenario. There are other scenarios that I think are more likely.
I think more like a bronze age collapse. Which for most of us would be the same as the big flash scenario, just s l o w e r . Maybe we'll keep better records, if we can still teach reading and writing.
for those of us not up on the subject, before the bronze age collapse "linear A" was the written language (and still hasn't been deciphered), a few generations after the collapse when writing re-appeared, "linear B" was the new written language.
I wonder how much "radio stuff" will be considered "magic" in the near future (to everyone, not just the technically illiterate). Keeping in mind that it wasn't till the 1950's that it was figured out how the Romans were able to get concrete to cure underwater.
Lauri-Coyote is probably right though, maybe the trick is to try and save what we think is important, everyday.
Thanks
Joel
Close.the entire concept is so 'Orwellian'...
There you go Lauri, the comparison is so accurate for those who are intelligent enough to know it..
........the entire concept is so 'Orwellian'......
Our hero Winston in 1984 does not find himself in his dystopian world overnight. He has vague memories of his sister and mother, but can't recall how anything changed - its always been like that, with the past a blurred memory. "They" have gas-light'd the population for years into believing Oceania is a utopia, --- and only the ruling Inner Party is the wiser.
See any parallels with what is happening around us today ?
Maybe the end won't be that flash over the horizon- we will just decompose as the generations with memory disappear - until as Winston observed--
"........(he) was curious how (a) beetle-like type proliferated in the Ministries: little dumpy men, growing stout very early in life, with short legs, swift scuttling movements, and fat inscrutable faces with very small eyes. It was the type that seemed to flourish best under the dominion of the Party. "
'til they are all that remains

Big Brother Is Watching YOU !

This is kind'a sometime else to keep in mind--- Nazi Germany during WW2 did not ban amateur radio like we did in the U,S
Maybe ham radio will continue to exist in a post apocalyptic Orwellian America; that is-- if you can find anything to power it with.

Just get out your hose and suck the other gas tanks.Seeing all this discussion about if a vehicle will operate in a post-EMP environment has missed one point: There will be no fuel available, very shortly after the event.
