The encrypted radio system is replacing an aging analog system that was open to mischief by what police officials say are “bad guys” using cheap Chinese-made radios to interfere with emergency channels, especially during civil disturbances. They also claim criminals had police radio scanners while committing crimes, but they also failed to showed any misuse of radios by journalists. The new systems assure officer safety, police officials say.
Interesting. First, "mischief" by disrupters then criminals monitoring during crimes.

You're completing missing my point...those two variables (crime data with encryption vs. crime data without encryption) are not measurable as there are many factors outside that can directly impact crime data alone... increase/decrease in the amount of officers on the street, directed patrols in certain areas resulting in decreased crimes, number of crimes being reported, increase/decrease in population/immigrant surge in NYC, etc etc etc.

So while you want to stand on your internet soapbox and exclaim "provide your documentation," i'm saying you shouldn't even be standing on that soapbox using Nat as a measurement, so get down before I keep knocking you off.
You are hilarious!! I could not care less what you think of me, your opinion is worthless to me. I will continue to voice my opinion, whether you like it or not. We will continue our fight against LE Encryption, we are not concerned about you or your opinion. I do not take direction from you. Every time you demand my silence, I will have a louder voice ......Have a wonderful day.....

I'd be very surprised if this ever makes it out of committee, but... fingers crossed.

I hope that they can pass this! Is there any way to lobby them to pass it?
We have a large group of New York media and press corporate and legal departments behind us... We have the citizens app.... We have quite a few neighborhood watch committees and watch groups.... And we have quite a few politicians that are behind us looking to stop 100% NYPD encryption.

So nothing for me to do to help the cause? ;)

If you live in New York write to your senators and congressman. Write to the New York City council. Continue to press the issue. We are not going away quietly.
I live in NYC. So I can definitely send something to them. I gotta be brutally honest, I am too lazy :ROFLMAO: to draft a letter to send to my councilmember and state senator etc. Do you know if there is some sort of template anywhere online that I can use to send to them?

@Drummer36 just be honest and tell them why NYPD must not Encrypt their Pct. Dispatch comms , and how it effects you, and how you feel about it. You are a concerned citizen that has always been able to hear about crime in your area as it happens, not a day later IF they want you to know about it, with their spin..... And dont listen to the nasty ones on here that are disrepectful all the time

Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement. I am new to here as you can see and was quite taken aback with those posts on the thread I started "NYPD SOD Terminology". But I definitely won't listen to them.

The mayor was just saying at a press conference how they used their encrypted radios so the protesters couldn't hear their units.
YES, Encrypting TAC channels is understandable for an incident like this..... Encrypting Dispatch is not the right way to go.... The NYPD and City of NY will use this incident to push their horrendus agenda to Encrypt 100%
