I think the information contained in that reference is not quite correct. Current narrowband FM (pre-"narrowbanding") is +/-5KHz deviation not 15KHz as the reference states. The new "narrowband" deviation is +/-2.5KHz deviation not 7.5KHz as the reference states. Also, the old US NTSC television pre-digital audio was FM deviated at +/-25KHz maximum and definitely NOT "over 100KHz deviation as stated in the reference. The US FM broadcast deviation is correct in the reference at +/-75KHz.

In the US, on the VHF-HI band, the spacing between channels for most non-federal services was at 15KHz and is now halved for the narrowbanding to 7.5KHz. In the federal range (above 162MHz) the spacing was 25KHz and has been halved to 12.5KHz with future plans to halve again to 6.25KHz channel spacing. The latter is also true for the UHF band in the US (25KHz -->12.5KHz-->6.25KHz) for all services.

It seems that channel spacing and deviation got mixed up somehow in that reference.

Control Channel Data Output

I'm seriously thinking about getting this scanner. But have a question regarding this feature:

"Control Channel Data Output - allows the analysis of control channel data without the need to perform invasive modifications to the scanner"

I've seen pictures of the unit, but I don't see an output jack. How does one access this feature? How well does it work?

You use the same port and cable that is used for programming and controlling the scanner, hooked to the serial port of a computer.

OK, and what software is used?

P25 systems can use Pro96com.

P16 systems can use Trunk88 as this pic shows on NC's statewide VIPER system:

so all programs (like trunker) can be used then it seems?

Straight through the serial cable Pro96com works for P25 systems. Trunk88 works great on P16 systems. Unitrunker does NOT work even though it is listed in the program itself.

ARRGGG!!! I can't figure out how to monitor our dispatch channel for the Fire Tone out freq's when there are multiple tones dispatched. We had a command tone (two tones) then a set of tones for each station dispatched. The squelch opens and displays the first set of tones, but not the second set. I want to set my scanner up so that if my pager is not on or nearby, I call still hear the dispatch.

Ok, I have read all 10 pages of this thread.. What I'm still trying to figure out is..Is the BCD996XT the successor of the 996T? I haven't seen a side by side comparison. Is the 996XT The new Uniden Flagship?
Thanks

I downloaded the Pro96com and tried it on my 996XT but I guess it does not work on it. I could not get it to do anything.

And were you using it on a Pure P25 (9600 Baud) system?
As I stated above Pro96com ONLY works on 9600 Baud Motorola systems.
If you are trying to decode a 3600 Baud system you need to use Trunk88.

Click in the Edit, then Decode Configuration, and select BEDSIT (because there is no choice for BEDSIT. Check your COM port and baud rate while your there. Is the IL Starcom 21 system 9600 baud?

WOW, I have to stop posting at 3:30AM!!!

Replace the word BEDSIT with BCD396XT. :D

I just found out how that happened! The damn spell checker changes BCD396XT to BEDSIT!
