I am brand new to scanning and have a few questions. I just purchased my first scanner, a Uniden BC246T. While reading a lot of forums and the user manual as well as a lot of information on this site I found the system type in Forsyth is a Project 25 Phase I (FDMA). Forsyth County Public Safety Trunking System, Forsyth County, Georgia - Scanner Frequencies

Does anyone have any experience using the BC246T with this system type? Is it even possible? Thanks for your help in advance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You will not be able to monitor the system with the 246. It is completely digital, P-25. You will be able to listen to FD dispatch as it is simulcast on the 154.010 old VHF frequency, as well as, Cumming PD on 153.395. All firegrounds, SO, and other Cumming PD is on the digital system. You can monitor Cherokee county, Dawson county, GA DNR (dept of natural resources), US Army Corps of Eng at Lake Lanier. GSP on their VHF frequencies and their 765.4375 car repeater frequency. Those should be very active this weekend. Otherwise, you are SOL:(

Thanks Larry for the discouraging info. What would be an affordable scanner to use to monitor the Forsyth County digital P-25 system? Thanks again for your help.

Right now, Radio Shack has the Pro-106 and Pro-197 on sale for $379.99. Picked up a 197 for $350 at the shack in May. Programming with Win500 (free thirty day trial) at: www.starrsoft.com . You'll need the USB programming cable, part#-20-047 to finish the deal. Have had my 106 for almost two years and love it:) Use both the 197 and 106 in the shack along with my 163 which does all my conventional scanning. If you have problems with the programming, I will help. I live in N Gwinnett, not far from Forsyth.

Just Moved Here

Hello Everyone,
I just moved here from the armpit of the USA so I'm slowly learning what works and doesnt work, down here as far as scanning. I am getting ready to make the leap to a P-25 scanner, but I gotta sell some more stuff on ebay. I have lots of Analog scanners and a couple VHF/UHF Ham HT's if anyone is interested.
Its nice to see a bunch of nice people actually answering questions from us FNG's
