Heard some traffic today on TGID 121 on the new system. Sounded like a patch to Camden County Hwy ops 1 working a MVA on the AC Expressway.

Hey quick question I'm in Cinnaminson and can hear nothing on the Camden County system. Would I have to be in Camden County or Gloucester County to be able to hear it? I'll leave it on all day and nothing.

It's very unlikely you will pickup anything from Gloucester County. You may struggle with Camden County although you aren't too far. I'm only about 6 miles from Camden County in Deptford and I have trouble with signal consistency.

There are are a few guys here, including me, that have seen the coverage map for the Gloucester County system and would probably agree that the coverage is excellent within the county but it's actually limited to pretty much Gloucester County. It's simply the nature of a P25 Phase II system. I would assume it's the same for Camden county. This being said the availability beyond the borders of a given county will be limited with these new systems.

I should have my yagi up by Monday or Tuesday. Assuming that is enough to bring up the marginal signal I get on the system now, I'll be able to let a system run Unitrunker full time, and will be able to assist with mapping out talkgroups.

I have already started labeling the talkgroups for the system in Unitrunker. For the most part I have my Unitrunker running full time. Any help would be appreciated though. I have also begun the daunting task of labeling all of the users in the system. I should be able to get almost 99% of it done once all the Fire and EMS radio start to be used. There are a few users I may not be able to identify. There have been limited logins so far from Fire and EMS but soon enough they will all be checked in.

Here are some screenshots of what I have so far for the Talkgroups. These are the primary TGs. I captured most of them with an APX by flipping through the programming, noting the name in the APX, and watching in Unitrunker as the APX joined the different talkgroups.

Oh, awesome. If you've snagged labels based off a system radio, you're way ahead of me. I understand the task of labeling radios is a big one. I went through a few years ago and labeled every radio as I saw it come across for the New Castle County, DE part of the DE state system. Most of my FD and EMS IDs, as well as some of the DE State PD IDs are still accurate, though I lost a lot of work when New Castle County PD moved all dispatch to encryption. The only thing I found that gets tricky there is when some units such as the NCC medics switch trucks and the unit numbers don't match the radio id anymore. My solution on that ended up being to label some IDs simply as Medic Truck or Medic Portable. I believe Gloucester EMS moves rigs around and gives them the appropriate unit number from time to time as well. I'd certainly be up for offering a hand in that process again.

You are correct about Gloucester County EMS. I started labeling the "home" locations based on the unit number but they do move around a little to it is sort of irrelevant. Because of this I will simply remove the location tag.

Here is the run down on the User ID's. Numbers that end in "1" are portables. 4 indicates a mobile unit and 9 a base station.

The radio id's are pretty much the same as they were with the old system.
Example:
Star Cross Fire. (just noted I labeled this wrong in Unitruker. Fixed)
Station 43-3
Radio ID: 4330101 - Chief Portable
4330104 - Chief Mobile

Woodbury Heights
1512004 - Engine 1512 Mobile
1512011 - Engine 1512 Portable #1
1512031 - Engine 1512 Portable #3

Fire Unit Identifiers Are as Follows:
1- Engine
2- Engine
3- Engine
4- Tender
5- Brush
6 - Ladder
7- Utility
8- Rescue
9- Ambulance

I'm pretty sure you can now figure out based on the information I have provided how to label individual users. I'm not going to start until a few weeks after the full system is running. I'd rather sit down and knock out all of the work in one session rather than a little bit at a time. Once I have Unitruker situated I'll get my BCD436HP (on order) mapped out.

I'm just hoping that Unitrunker gets an update that will allow it direct the second receiver for Phase II. I'm also hoping DSD+ gets and update for Phase II TDMA as well.

Awesome. Thanks for the breakdown on how radio IDs are being setup. That will be a huge help in labeling. I was familiar with the unit numbering syntax. Ran with 39-2 for a while back in high school.

I'll also be using an SDR setup at least for the Unitrunker side of things.

The UIDs work pretty much the same way on the police side. The portables are labeled with the badge number of the officer to which it is assigned. The mobiles are labeled with the motor pool number of the vehicle as assigned by the individual department. For departments with a one digit district number, the entire UID is one digit shorter. I have been using the discovery mode in my BCD436 but haven't monitored any of the fire side talkgroups or UIDs yet. Based on the example given by zolzar, the fire side UIDs have an extra '0' in them to differentiate from the police side, making the fire side UIDs 6 or 7 digits rather than 5 or 6 digits like the police side. This should remain an effective way to separate the UID ranges at least for the forseeable future.

Interesting. Sounds like Washington Twp has made the switch. Being dispatched to respond on Fire 1. AKA Talkgroup 101.

They have been having trouble getting through using the portable radios. All of the apparatus have had the new 700mhz radios installed and the 500mhz radios weren't reaching the repeaters

Makes sense. I've notice the quality of the 500 system has really gone down the tubes in recent weeks. I had issues with channel 3 in Westille yesterday. It's was real hit or miss.

Obviously a ton of radio testing and checking on the EMS channel today in preparation for tomorrows official Start. Incase anyone was wondering the County has also changed the BLS unit numbers, so there is no longer the County EMS 82-2, 83-1, 82-45, etc. Now the format is, they have taken all of the unused "fire district/municipality ambulances" numbers and assigned them to the County ambulances. For example, numbers: 11, 12, 14, 16, 20, 27, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 37, and so on that haven't been used to designate a fire company or municipality ambulance, will now be used as individual county ambulance numbers. So instead of Logan Townships County BLS unit being 82-15, it may now be BLS 11....just as a heads up.

Fire and EMS will be heard in the clear. Depending on where you are in Delco,.you may or may not get signal. I have heard reports of people hearing it as far as Lansdowne. And Fire/EMS are switching over at 0600hrs tomorrow. I also heatd a BLS 17, 26, and 28. I hope those dont get confused with fire districts that have the same numbers.

If you mean the BCD536HP then it will work just fine assuming you get a signal. The Broadcastify Scanner app will only cover the new system after someone provides a feed. From Ridley, you should hear it. That is as long as you are not too close to a cell tower or other source of 700/800mhz overload.

The database is NOT complete. All of the fire channels have not been submitted yet. If you load it into your scanner you will not see anything because the only database entries are marked as encrypted and won't be loaded into it. You'll have to enter it manually. Also, I loaded the noted fire channel lineup into my APX portable and from Ridley I hear them loud and proud. Can't speak for scanner performance, though.
