To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all, I’m trying to just program in some channels for receiving my local ems agency as well as repeaters and simplex T/A channels. I just started with trying to do the ems agency ones for receive only. The channels are analog conventional. I have 1 Zone, 1 System, and 1 Conventional Set. The RPM software lets me write it to the radio with no errors, but then the radio says Invalid Configuration, Invalid Channel

You are missing one or more radio features that your mission plan needs to function as programmed… this could be something like a programmed wideband channel, but the radio not having the wideband feature. This is most likely the missing feature based on your description, but there could easily be others.

Hmmm interesting, this radio has alot of features and I feel like conventional analog would be a standard one right? It had conventional analog frequencies previously programmed in before I created my own personality.

Are any of the channels you programmed wide 25KHz channels? Does the radio say ‘WIDEBAND’ in the feature list? Also, what bands do you see listed under feature info? With a 200P, you should see ‘VHF-HIGH’, ‘UHF’, and ‘7-800’ if all bands are enabled. Obviously, even if you have all bands, you can’t program anything 900 for instance. RPM will let you, but it will throw the error you are seeing when loaded

Can this radio make phone calls? Where does the SIM card go?
No, the radio cannot make phone calls. Unless you are on a BeON system, the only thing you can do with LTE is make a Wi-Fi hotspot… @KevinC The sim slot is at the top of the battery compartment behind a cover, which is held in place by two T6 screws.

To use the LTE feature set at all, you need the LTE hardware board and associated rear housing, along with several features.

I think that’s all you need to do that… I do t have the LTE hardware installed (it’s useless really, and it creates a bulge on the back of the radio) so I’ve never tried to use any LTE features. I already have a hotspot on my phone, an industrial cellular router in my car, and my toughpad has cellular built in, so I don’t need a fourth hotspot…

I also always only have had Motorolas until now. What kind of industrial hotspot router do you have in your vehicle BMDaug? I was looking at a newer 4x4 5G one that has the option for 4 external cellular antennas

I have a Cradlepoint (can’t remember the model) in one vehicle and an InHand IR305 in another. Both work well, and accept dual SIM cards, have multiple antenna ports, GPS, and some Ethernet ports for wired connections as well. The 5G stuff is still quite expensive compared to the 4G used market to which I am relegated! But at the same time, there’s no 5G anywhere near me so I’m not missing anything by going with older hardware.

The cellular router is the most universal device around… they have multiple devices integrated into a single rugged enclosure. You get WI-FI, a multi sim hotspot, an Ethernet switch, some have GPS, a serial port, or like mine, some general purpose inputs and outputs that could be set up to send me a message if my car alarm is going off or if the temperature exceeds a preset level.

If you need internet infrastructure in a remote location, they are a great solution and much cheaper than satellite. Plus, log periodic antennas are easy to interface and would provide a nice signal boost at the campsite when properly aimed at the nearest tower!

If you get a sim for the 200P, I’d be interested to know how the radio performs as a hotspot, just to know! It would be a cool addition to the feature set, but I just can’t justify another monthly SIM card payment!!

Yeah I have two 4g lte NMO mag mounts for my 2x2 4G lte router when using it for my vehicle. They are pretty cool devices. I have been interested in trying some Log Periodic antennas for when I’m in bad services areas when camping and stuff. I’m sure those work pretty well. Yes I have a t-mobile data sim in my cellular router, I’m going to pop that in the radio and see if I can get it to work. I’ll let you know

Be aware, while the radio may have the LTE feature enabled, that does not mean it has the LTE hardware installed. Easy way to tell is look at the back of the radio. If it has a big bump on the back above the belt clip mount, that's the LTE cover and if it's a factory installed cover, it'll imply that the radio has LTE hardware. Incidentally the LTE hardware as an upgrade is roughly 1500 dollars.

@ElroyJetson If we are interpreting the note from l3h correctly, the LTE back w/hardware will be standard going forward, whether you order it or not… So, it seems that it is effectively free on new radios! Well, free except for the bulge on the back!!

@KevinC Yep! Because you are “BFL Super Moderator”! Sick job dude!! Hey, let me know if you would ever let me moderate the Harris / M/ACOM / GE / Ericsson Forum!
