So I just turned on my Harris P7300 with P1 and P2 features.. and switched to the Tampa P25 sys I programed a year ago, and its working....still using the (Edacs?) 800 freq and not the new 700 freq. How is that possible? Maybe they didn't depreciate it yet? Batdude put the new 700 freq in the database in May and I haven't loaded them in yet, but the old 800s are still working. Let me know please, if anyone is seeing the same thing. TIA

Some talk groups are only on the P-25 (700) system some haven't moved yet and some TGs are using both P-25 & Edax

I have a feeling Tampa PD is still using EDACS because their P25 audio has a delay after they talk on EDACS.

So how come fire rescue has to ask if BLS is available? Assuming, "BLS" basically means an ambulance? Sometimes dispatch tells 'em there's "no BLS". So what are they supposed to do?

In Pinellas County, they automatically get a Sunstar ambulance. No asking if one is available. If they run out of Sunstars, that's considered very serious. But it seems routine in Hillsborough.

Next question. :)

Why does Tampa Fire dispatch call the unit first before dispatching 'em? Doesn't that just delay the dispatch? They should just dispatch 'em right away and not be sitting there waiting for a reply.

BLS transport in Tampa is primarily handled by TransCare, which has it's own dispatch. ALS is handled by TFD directly. Sometimes TransCare responds alone for BLS calls, sometimes they respond with TFD.

I've personally seen TFD respond with a transport capable truck, sit there for 45 minutes waiting for TransCare to arrive and transport. FD will sit there and wait for TransCare to show up and do the transport.

Copying TPD on EDACS, but the signal is choppy here in Riverview. I have a 536HP and have given up on P25.

Dispatch usually does that for units not in quarters. It's better to ensure they're ready to hear the dispatch than tying up radio traffic with "please repeat."

But they should get the details on their MDTs. I think they oughta do it like Pinellas where they just dispatch 'em point blank right away. The time they spend calling the unit first and waiting for a reply delays just going ahead and just dispatching the call.

So let me ask this about BLSs. How do they decide when to send AmeriCare, TransCare, or AMR? Cause I see numerous different ambulance companies around the county.

And why is it seemingly OK for dispatch to just key up and none-cholantly say oh, no BLS available. In Pinellas, they almost never go oh sorry, no Sunstar.

No Deathstar available at least 2 times a day in Pinellas.

Yes, they use MDT's. Their policy simply requires voice acknowledgment and status updates in addition to any actions performed on their MDT.

The City of Tampa only uses TransCare for BLS. Hillsborough uses all three.

Tampa has their own ALS ambulances and only dispatches BLS on Alpha or Bravo calls to help alleviate the load on their ALS fleet. When no BLS is available, the ALS unit simply does the transport. It may appear nonchalant... because it's not a big deal. Patients still get transported.

Pinellas almost entirely uses SunStar both ALS and BLS transport even if a city ALS ambulance is assigned to the call. One would say the Pinellas model is a waste. That's why they've experimenting with "Medic" sprinter units.

Two very different models.

I recently moved to Hillsborough County. I have and old BC246T scanner. Does anyone know if it would scan here? The system shows the groups to be analog.
Thanks

The BC246T is analog-only so it will only work on the EDACS system that's being phased out. There is some traffic still being simulcast on the system but you'll need to look into a P25 Phase II capable scanner, preferably an SDS-100/200.

Thanks, I have the SDS100. Just trying to find a use for my old faithful scanner. Tampa still uses the EDACS.
