I'm a total beginner shortwave listener, are there even any signals here in the central U.S.?

In a very strange way, although I miss the old days of many station to listen to in the evening, the remaining broadasters have much less interference from adjacent stations, which allows me to use the wider bandwidth filters that I prefer for AM (8 kHz+).
