The GPS modules I ordered have finally cleared US Customs, so I should have them by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

The modules have arrived. I will test and prep them tomorrow, and then get my backlog caught up.

I've finished configuring and function testing (I run each module 15-30 minutes to verify it gets a satellite lock, and verify that it can calculate a reasonably accurate fix) the batch of new GPS modules. They all passed. Now I have to attach the connector plugs and coat the antennas...a project for tomorrow.

When you run the wire to connect the tx to the RX do you run it under the rf shield (closest to the GPS) or over the shield (closest to the screen)?
I found that the GPS makes noise on the weather bands that coincides with the red flash. Not a deal breaker though; just wondering.
Also. Did you make your protective case with clip or find it on Amazon?

The data line runs along the back of the case from the GPS module through a ferrite toroid to the GPS power switch (which also switches the data line, so that an external GPS can be used when the internal GPS is off), and from the switch between the shield and front circuit board to the RX pad. That eliminates RF noise and interference.

The case came from Scanner Master.

Does anyone know where the 5v power tap is on the BCT15X? I finally got around to ordering my DB9 plugs, and I was looking at the two scanners I wanted to mod. On the first page of this thread you showed the position of an5v source, but it wasn't with a bct15 unit.

It's the point labeled V_5V slightly to the right and about an inch below the middle of the photo.

LOL the first photo was too blurry to read correctly. But there should be something labeled V_5V or something _5V. Can you post another photo showing the entire board?

Put a meter on the DB-9 pin 4 labeled V_GPS. Usually a V_ prefex on a test point indicates voltage...
Pin 5 is ground.

I can find 3v, 6v, 8v, 13v and 20v around the board. Can't find a solid 5v

I stand corrected, I have 5.5v on pin 3 and 7 on the DB9 with 5 as ground

I just opened my 996P2, and yah, two completely different animals. So don't fret it, I'll poke around and see if I can find a 5v line to tap. If not, it's no big deal.

Any pictures of what the 436 looks like after GPS mod? Switch, LED?
Here's some pics of mine.
The little white button on the side is the power switch.
