OMG... This makes absolutely no sense on being able to judge audio quality on a video of scanner on YouTube. Until you physically have the radio in your hand its almost impossible to make that judgement. The questions are being asked since they is already a handful of SDS-200 radios out there.

Exactly that is why I actually buy the scanner and judge for myself. Even though the 536 sounds like crap (too bassy) I still got 2 of them. I still like the SDS 100 sound a lot better. Some say it's tinny but I like it. The best scanner audio I ever heard was on an old TENNETRAC 12 channel crystal scanner now that audio was awesome.

I played the AZ video on my Desktop, and then on my Laptop, not close to the same sound quality

Yes I am running 13 right now on my desk logging on proscan plus a TRX-2 and a PRO-197.
Here is a bit of UHF audio not real busy at the moment. And be advised the 460.400 frequency sounds like that on all my scanners. I will try and get a bit more video later.

Wow. Do you actually use all 14 scanners? I usually sell off my current scanner to help finance the next one.

That can remedied with an external 'communications' speaker like the Uniden BC15! You don't have your scanners sitting on their internal speakers possibly? They're in the bottom.

Like any "moron" would do that. But then it takes all kinds....

I got a box of these GE speakers years ago and use them with pretty much everything. We were able to hear a 536 in a Jeep with the top off at highway speeds. Great results with handhelds too.

Hello, would anyone happen to have an idea of why Uniden didn't make this model with a detachable faceplate? I had been hoping for that because my other Ham radios in my vehicle have that and it makes installation and operation SO much easier and more flexible. I'll be buying the scanner anyway but this is just a disappointment right out of the gate.

Don't discount the LAN port. That makes a RH possible. I can't say I've heard anythng, but it IS possible to add a RH. The same can be said for the USB ports.

I was going to say the USB-A port has promise as does the LAN port. They even mention on the uniden site something along the lines of the USB-A is for expandable accessories or something like that.

I am willing to bet a large sum they have a remote head planned. It’s been a request of users ever since the RCH96 was discontinued and it would be a missed opportunity in my opinion for additional revenue secondary to the sale of the SDS200. Also with the increase in size from 1 DIN to 1.5 DIN most consoles will need to be modified to fit the 200, the remote head could eliminate this challenge and could open up the possibility for more sales of the units to users that potentially weren’t going to modify their current setups to fit in the new size model.

I use a variety of external speakers for my scanners and HF radios, and I have been thru many a speaker searching for the right ones. I seek tonal quality with volume, as I don't feel the need to adjust voice too much for audio perfection - just a clear and concise voice that does not sound tinny or distorted. I like the Vertex speakers for scanners, as they handle volume well without distortion. I also like the Yaesu SP-7 mini-speakers, as they sound 10 times their size. When I got the SDS100 I ran the audio thru a Watson SP-170F external speaker I got from ScannerMaster and it was okay, but not really enough oompf. I took advice from someone here on the forum and purchased the Inland Pro Sound 2000 multimedia speakers and was pleasantly surprised with the audio quality. They sound as good as my Polk Audio bookshelf speakers! They are pictured with my SDS100 in the Media section of the forums. I used Pro Trucker PT-812 4" 20-watt speakers in my big truck for years, and now use them with my IC-R75 and 746Pro because I like the way they bring the voice audio to the forefront thru the static on distant signals. For broadcast shortwave (sermons and music) and music I utilize a pair of Mackie studio monitors, possibly the best speakers I own. You have to hear them to appreciate them! Those are my go-to speakers for home recording and soundtrack mixing as well. Of course, when Mama is asleep I swear by my Bose QC25 headphones :)

I mix and match my shortwave radio audio, my office flat screen TV audio with Dish satellite, my Dell & Mac computer audio (Pro Tools and MP3s), and my Tascam digital Portastudio output thru a Behringer Ultrapatch Pro PX3000 Patchbay and a Technical Pro AX2000 2k watt audio amplifier (except for scanners, which I just run external direct out from the radio). I have a lot of audio networked here at my desk, and I have my sound just the way I want it, but I have to say that the best radio/speaker combo at my desk is the SDS100 and the Inland Pro Sound 2000 speakers. I just love the way they sound for UNDER $20!

Yaesu MLS-100

This is the best scanner speaker out there on the market. you can mount it right ontop of your base scanner with some double sided tape.

Yup, I call them Vertex just because that is the name embossed on the corner. Yaesu MLS-100, same thing. I have those and the little Yaesu SP-7s, which are little kickers that have surprising sound and clarity. Agree with you, the MLS-100s are great speakers!

I think you'd lose that bet.

I think what you might see is a iOS or Android app that you can run on a phone or a tablet to mimic the front panel of the radio.

As much as I’d like to see a remote head option, I think you are right. Be nice if it could be wired by usb between, say, an android tablet and the scanner.

Now that is a crappy sounding speaker and had to send back. Tried using for something else and wound up with a cheap computer speaker. I can hear every radio fine with their built-in speakers, even in vehicles. Some of ya'll must be some deaf mofos...and I have hearing loss too.
