Sometimes I wonder why I even post...
Sorry! I missed that one.From post #5.
Perhaps they have GPS built in? Maybe they incorporated the previous design plans for internal scanner GPS from Radio Reference member jonwienke into these new models. If so, I hope he's getting paid royalties for his work!If you look at the rear view on the Uniden site, the scanner lacks a connector for GPS. You have only power, external speaker, record out, and BNC antenna.
Oh, hi, didn’t notice you were in this conversation. 🤣Sometimes I wonder why I even post...

For a mobile to work properly, the GPS receiver would need a good view of the satellite. I don't believe that a receiver mounted inside a metal case would work very well.Perhaps they have GPS built in? I agree with your thinking, even though it makes no sense to make a radio that is not efficient on Phase 2 simulcast as that is the trend of the future albeit, police will probably be encrypted..As it's been mentioned before by Airspy Joe, the 2 new scanners will not be a replacement for the SDS series. So, that means, it's not going to be made with the same chip they use on the SDS scanners. It looks like a 996P2, probably with that "revised hardware" we kept hearing about firmware upgrades accommodating, Like it's 996P2 predecessor, it will probably be able to have DMR/Cap+ and NXDN capabilities as well as P25 Phase 2 Trunking. It might come included, and could be sold at a higher price to offset the licensing fees Uniden has to pay. If the handheld version looks similar to the 325P2, then you'll have a pretty good idea.
We posted at the same time, I don't think there's going to be new radios similar to the SDS 100 or 200, if they haven't been able to produce any meaningful firmware updates improving performance and fixing bugs since April of 2019 for the SDS series I don't know if they could actually produce another radio similar to the SDS 100 and 200.Good to know it looks like Uniden are still interested in producing new scanners!
Hope at some point there will be further iterations of the SDS100/200 scanners.

For those who don't have simulcast issues, you will in the future.. someday.
Of course we all wish there was a less expensive simulcast friendly radio in the format of the 996p2 for less money than the SDS radios but imagine what would happen to the sales of the SDS series if they actually produced one.
What would probably be good for Uniden to do is come out with a series of firmware updates for the SDS series unlocking some potential and improving performance, I think that's a novel idea. /S

.Can I buy a "pre broken" one and send it right in for a warranty repair?
Until you realize that, beside USA and Canada, there are not many countries that uses simulcast. That leaves a lot of countries where Uniden can earn money with scanners without simulcast. As @JoeBearcat said before, these 2 new scanners won’t be new flagships replacing the SDS series.I agree with your thinking, even though it makes no sense to make a radio that is not efficient on Phase 2 simulcast as that is the trend of the future albeit, police will probably be encrypted..

Very true, but those would probably be Uniden Australia/Europe/Japan products. This was on the Uniden America website.Until you realize that, beside USA and Canada, there are not many countries that uses simulcast. So the new units are regressing in capability.
Everything I care for is disappearing so why not this as well.
Good times.
I could be wrong but I think I remember the Uniden guy posting here a while back hinting Uniden had future plans for the SDS series but only after some newer scanners had been introduced. I guess these new scanners are what he was talking about.
So fingers crossed...
Yep and a lot of those countries the police are encrypted also but let's keep an eye out for European versions of these two radios that will be capable in other countries.Until you realize that, beside USA and Canada, there are not many countries that uses simulcast.
