I personally think this is exciting as its been years since Uniden or Whistler made a new scanner, I'm super hyped about it, the more the better :D

let's all be patient and wait for more news in the meantime we can think, theorize and speculate till the news comes out and specs, I personally want to see pics of the new handheld, :D

like I said I keep thinking it could be upgraded to the 396P2, I don't think they would give the 15x the boot, however what if it's a reskinned scanner with a few new upgrades?

the other thing I keep thinking is you have to find on Amazon for example trunk tracker V for the 436/5536 however the 15x is trunk tracker 3, if it's a stripped-down scanner then it might not be for trunk tracking, only time will tell.

the other thing is if Uniden is listening to the people supposedly they wouldn't just make a scanner for rail fan users only, we all use scanners for various applications in our every day lives for example some use 1 for fire, 1 for pd, or law, 1 for marine, 1 for and go down the list, so if they made it for rail fans only I would be more upset at how they think people like us give uniden money and they want to cater to 1 specific sub group.

i just hope it's not just targeted for 1 subgroup like rain fan, then again if they start making scanners for sub groups then maybe they can make em cheaper, I have no clue, I was hoping to hear news about a newer model with semi cast at half the cost, lol i mean we all talk about or stoked about this new scanner, why not add a little flair to the post and share what you want in this new scanner hat features you want? like i said i want semi cast and half the price, ROFLMAO :D

1 can dream, lol

it would be intresting if uniden decided to start making cheaper scanners by making it say for each subset or group of people, hams, rail fan, public works, nascar, weather, marine, air and ect, walk into a scanner store say yes i want a marine scanner and out comes a scanner for marine only, would be intresting, it would be stripped down version of what we have at cheaper price points, lol

has anyone checked the other places scanner master? bearcat warehouse or zips for the new model?

i could go on this morning but i must walk my doggie, i am excited to see and hear more news on it.

Noticing where you live, this radio would probably serve your needs well being that your fire and Sheriff's Department are VHF high band or UHF. Even the Washington State Patrol is VHF High.

It doesn't appear that San Juan County has any p25 Phase 1 or Phase 2 simulcast systems except for the Department of Transportation. Not only will a scanner like this be good for your area but you certainly could do with a x36 or a 996.

The concern that people have in other parts of the country where there is more and more Phase 2 simulcast systems going online is that the SDS 100 and 200 are simulcast friendly and use an SDR chip. They are the only radios that work properly with simulcast distortion in all areas while on the move.

These new radios are called BCD so they are p25 digital but may encounter simulcast distortion like other P2 capable radios that don't have SDR chips.

That's where a lot of the concern is coming from, I for example, I'm in an area of the country that is All simulcast and is very subject to simulcast distortion.

Out of curiosity I placed a phone call to Bearcat Warehouse this morning to inquire about the upcoming availability of the Uniden BCD260DN base/mobile scanner. To his credit, the person who answered the phone was familiar with this new model number but stated that it was "still in the planning stages." He further stated that realistically it probably would not be available for sale until "some time next year."

I mentioned to the CSR that the BCD260DN was currently listed on the Uniden.com website, including photos, and that it said "On Back Order - Arriving Soon!" He said that Uniden does that to generate interest in new products. FWIW

i always need more scanners for my shack Trent, my thoughts is a new scanner uniden and Whistler hasn't brought out in years a new one, however, most of the state trent of wa has conventional, and a few places encrypted, i been thinking to get a 996p2 for my shack I love my 536 already and 15x, lol

i assume there is a 996p2 replacement, however, as i was thinking on my way out to walk my doggie I was thinking, if the whistler trx-2 and 1 offer free dmr, nxdn and ect and uniden is charging a fee to buy a licence may this is there answer new scanner with all those features, just a thought.

Nxdn and DMR on Uniden radios is licensed and works, Whistler radios were always an issue for me on nxdn as it didn't actually trunk track.

If I could suggest, there is so much information on radio reference regarding these subjects of comparing Uniden and Whistler radios. Just Google it, use several different wordings in your question and it will bring you to tons and tons of information from radio reference that will answer all of your questions.

This has been a debate for many years on radio reference ad nauseam.. Bob.

well as you know Trent nxdn and dmr i can pay for it to uniden but since im a island county they dont use it at all , however i know most of Washington state is conventional aka analog and 2 is a ffew county and phase 2 and 1 or 2 counties on phase 1,

however i forgot to mention in my last post i was also thinking with Unidens 15x, 30c, 75xlt, 125at for analog, I would be thinking how not even uniden would go backward and sell phase 1/ analog scanners like Whistler does, I know they do either analog or phase 2 by uniden, not analog, phase 1 and phase 2 like whistler, heck maybe the new scanner is phase 3, just a thought, ROFLMAO

i been thinking about that, scanners should be allowed to be pre ordered like everything else, but if it takens em 6 months to a year for news on it or the price then people cant pre order and then uniden wont know a head of time how many people are intrested in this preticular scanner, lol

In that case I would like them to release it in Europe as well. I need an additional scanner next to my Whistler TRX-2 and Uniden BCT15X. Something that can handle DMR DCDM and preferably dPMR too..

It will need to get an approval from the FCC if there are changes from other scanners. If it is based on the 15XT, it will need approval to add digital. I don't know if they would need FCC approval to delete items like serial ports though.
It cannot be offered for sale without the approval.
The FCC only lists final grants so pending applications are not public.
There have been changes to existing scanners in the last 3 years due to end of life components being replaced in newer versions but no new model scanners approved.

And also….. you can now send in your BCD160DN and BCD260DN for repair.
Is Uniden already anticipating problems with this unit? Perhaps a built-in cold solder joint, or humming by design, or dim screen, or faulty scroll knob, or a pre-failed clock battery, or .....
