Looks like The Scanner Guys and Johnathan won’t get to see this first it’s already here on R/R!

It’s interesting that it doesn’t have a “Trunktracker” logo on the front.

Your post sparked a memory; perhaps there actually was some validity to this post a couple years ago, asking about the idea of selling a non-trunking scanner.

So the new units are regressing in capability.

Everything I care for is disappearing so why not this as well.

Good times.

Another wild guess: it receives analog, DMR and NXDN out of the box, hence the DN in the model number.
You both bring up very interesting points. For the sake of discussion, let's say that you are both correct in that this new scanner does NOT "Trunktrack" and it also includes both DMR and NXDN capabilities right out of the box without having to purchase the DMR (currently $60 from Uniden) and NXDN (currently $50 from Uniden) keys separately.

If that information turns out to be true, perhaps Uniden has "gone over to the dark side" with these 2 new models and will be selling units comparable to the Whistler TRX-1 handheld and TRX-2 base/mobile. As we know, both of those Whistler units will monitor a trunk system without actually "Trunktracking" it and that allows them to not charge separate additional licensing fees for DMR and NXDN reception.

Of course the remaining million dollar question is whether or not these 2 new models were engineered/designed to handle simulcast reception issues.

Personally I think (just guessing again from the information we currently got) these 2 new scanners aren't going to be released as their new flagship models. I think they're here to fill a gap in their current product range. The BCD260DN maybe even replacing the long overdue BCT15X. Let's hope they're in the same price range.

I wouldn't be surprised if the BCD160DN looks identical to the 346/396. Powered by 3 AA batteries instead of a bulky LiPo battery pack (with all its issues) necessary for a power hungry SDR based simulcast friendly scanner.

I can't imagine that Uniden would put out a radio that doesn't trunk track or have an SDR chip so as to handle simulcast.

This is all speculation as we don't have any official presence from Uniden anymore. It certainly does appear that a new series does exist but again..

Not a trunk tracker or not having excellent performance on Phase 2 simulcast?
Couldn't be, or could it?

I guess we wait and see what happens.

For my personal use case this would be very useful - especially if the price is dropped quite a bit. My BCD996T that monitors everything around me at home has zero trunking programmed. About half is P25 conventional. Would be nice to toss another unit or two into the fold on the cheap. That said, I can't imagine my use case is common amongst all that many scanner listeners.

If UPMan was still alive he’d at least pop in and tell us he can’t say anything about this. The current Uniden product manager hasn’t been online in almost a month.

Uniden has already posted the BCD260DN on their own official Uniden.com website including 6 photos. They have also added both the BCD160DN and the BCD260DN to their new scanner registration drop down list and their list of scanners that they will currently repair (as already posted on page 1 of this thread).

Based on that information you would think that the current Uniden product manager, @JoeBearcat , would be able to say SOMETHING here on RR about these 2 new models. Maybe he is going to do that when he gets back to us regarding the fiasco with the missing scanners from our Uniden scanner registration lists and the additional scanners in our lists that we don't actually own!

Hopefully commenting about the 260 is on "the list".

If you look at the rear view on the Uniden site, the scanner lacks a connector for GPS. You have only power, external speaker, record out, and BNC antenna.
