JoeBearcat drops in from post #85

Quote from JoeBearcat in that thread:

"I believe you mean rumors. Believe them at your own risk. There will probably be several more models before the SDS series is replaced. There are two that have been waiting more than 18 months for the supply chain to be able to supply enough parts to make them. The testing is done and everything. But I'm sure some will blame me for the parts supply chain issues."

Fingers crossed...

Yep and a lot of those countries the police are encrypted also but let's keep an eye out for European versions of these two radios that will be capable in other countries.

I'm originally from the UK and when I would go back there for a visit I had all the local cop frequencies programmed into my little IC-R2 (no trunked system since it's very rural where I grew up).

On one visit back started scanning and nothing, no signals at all.
A quick check on the internet and found out the whole UK had switched to Tetra and everything was encrypted.😥

Of course we all wish there was a less expensive simulcast friendly radio in the format of the 996p2 for less money than the SDS radios but imagine what would happen to the sales of the SDS series if they actually produced one.
The SDS200 is very difficult to find space for mounting in a vehicle. I love the format of the BCD996P2. If only it could handle simulcast! I program a lot of scanners for firefighters and they don't require all of the bells and whistles on the SDS scanners. The 396 and 996 format scanners with just systems and groups make it much easier for selecting systems, sites, and groups using quick keys. Many fewer button pushes are required! Selling a lower cost 396 and 996 type of scanner which handles P25 Phase 1 and 2 simulcast would probably increase sales if it were available. I love the way my SDS scanners receive simulcast but I would buy several 396 and 996 type scanners in an instant if they could handle simulcast also. DMR and NXDN should still be available as add-ons.

I think we can all see it now..... if these new, lesser equipped scanners hit the market at an affordably low, entry level price point,

Buyers will quickly start complaining and threatening law suits against Uniden because they "crippled" the scanners abilities compared to other models.

If UPMan was still alive he’d at least pop in and tell us he can’t say anything about this. The current Uniden product manager hasn’t been online in almost a month.
Think of all the people here who could have been tapped for their experience and dedication, but this is what they do.

If Universal Radio was still in business I'm sure they would already have all of the details/specs of the brand-new Uniden BCD260DN posted on their website and would be taking pre-orders with FREE shipping included! They were certainly on top of their game when it came to the release of any new models of radios/scanners or other related equipment.

If you recall, back in early 2018 Universal Radio let the cat out of the bag prematurely regarding the upcoming release of the SDS100 handheld. Uniden "blew a gasket" when they found out about it but there was nothing they could do because the horse had already left the barn! LOL
"Let the cat out of the bag"...that's hilarious considering the company.

For a mobile to work properly, the GPS receiver would need a good view of the satellite. I don't believe that a receiver mounted inside a metal case would work very well.
I would tend to agree with that statement.

Or, for that matter, interested in the scanner product line. Back in January the president of Uniden told us that they haven't abandoned the scanner market. We have yet to see any of the issues with the SDS scanners resolved. I'm pretty patient and give people the benefit of the doubt, but that only goes so far.

Unless he's doing it from beyond the grave (RIP), I can't and won't give anyone currently at Uniden any credit for being that clever. 🤡

Yeah, the one-and-done or hit-and-run post by Kip. And of course the other guy who pops in once a week on a Wednesday, then goes MIA for a month, only to reappear. Will he grace us with his presence in a few days? Who knows, and frankly, who cares. I'm not aware of him really solving anything since he appeared on the scene under his new username here. Must be too busy selling Airspys to put any effort into his side hustle with Uniden. Yeah, I went there, whatever.

I have been thinking before I walk my dog, 1. The price point if its a newer 15x would be $200 however if its a newer scanner with the current subscriptions for dmr and the rest then it might be worth it, 2. however if these are middle-of-the-road scanners not analog but digital it could be replacing either the 325p2 or the 996p2, or the 426 and 536, only time will tell, however, I am thinking if there is a hand-held model it might be an upgrade to the 325 p2 and 996p2, my birthday is around the corner I need a new 1 or 2 new base station scanners, lol I'm thinking its more likely a 325p2/996p2 replacement over the 436 and 536 models, just a theory I have.

but im curious on the price and ect, however it cant be a replacement for the 436/36 as there data base scanners and require a mem card, lol

I really don’t know what to think of this thread and the direction it is going to… OP found a new product name and 6 pictures. @JoeBearcat informed us a few weeks ago that Uniden was planning the release of 2 new scanners: a handheld and base model. For now, AFAIK, that’s what we know.

However, I read a lot about functions that these new models are missing and that Uniden really doesn’t understand what they are doing. Members even start to hint that @JoeBearcat doesn’t inform Uniden what kind of scanner “we” want…..🤔 Uniden has not yet released any technical data for these new scanners, or did I miss something?

It’s good to hope and daydream what these new scanners could (or couldn’t) do. But let’s stop accusing or damaging people before we know for sure what these new scanners are capable of. That way this thread will be much more fun to read. Just my 2 cents.
