I'm not sure of the Tollway changes that far.Since Troop 3 only extends to Boone County is Troop 1 handling calls on I90 in Winnebago County?
Based on the original poster in the 2023 thread, I believe it was mentioned about Chicago taking over Oak Brook as part of this, and would make sense. Moving phone lines, cameras, telecommunicator training all has to take place before it changes over. The "rumors" as far as this goes, appear to have materialized. From discussions I’ve seen I-88 will be covered by Troop 1 in their geographic area. Troop 1 will supposedly cover I-39/90 in Winnebago County. Boone County was moved into Troop 3 with the reorganization. Rumor is Troop 3 communications will take over Tollway ISP radio traffic July 1 and Tollway tele-communicators will still handle Tollway maintenance and Money Trucks. Years ago Tollway radios were in numerous wreckers so Tollway had direct communications with busier tow operators. If this is still common practice I’d assume Tollway will still maintain access to the STARCOM trunk system.
Where that "old habit" will come into an issue is if you have 3-114 and 15-114 on the same channel and you call out "Car 114". As time goes on and MACH is updated or the "old" Troop 15 cars are reprogrammed, this won't be happening much longer.I caught Troop 15 North (TG 9098) for a moment this morning on T134 (Ottawa). Dispatch was still handled by "Oakbrook" and the patrol car used the full D15 ID for their car (15-33 in this case) but the dispatcher seemed to "struggling" with the new format calling them "Car 15-33". I guess old habits die hard I have caught about half a dozen former? D15 units with RIDs in the 15xxx/16xxx range using "3-" radio IDs on Troop 3 Southwest and North and a couple "15-xxx" units with 100xxxx/110xxxx RIDs
So maybe calling "Car 15-114" with the full "15" part is their way of coping lolWhere that "old habit" will come into an issue is if you have 3-114 and 15-114 on the same channel and you call out "Car 114". Lol...the struggle is real!So maybe calling "Car 15-114" with the full "15" part is their way of coping lol
That would make sense and coincide with the Troop map boundaries.Have confirmed thru monitoring that Troop 1 (Sterling) is handling calls and making traffic stops on I88 in Lee and Ogle Counties and on I90 in Winnebago County.

Good catch on this. Troop 1 was affiliated with the DuPage site and heard 1-39 on I-88 at MM 64, making a stop which is beyond the MM 44 on the west end of I-88. I recall they assigned an accident at MM 12 on I-90 over New Years Day, and the sergeant mentioned that "we no longer cover that".That would make sense and coincide with the Troop map boundaries.
They assign by Troops now. I did see quite a few Troop 3 personnel radio ID's and new radio signatures started popping up in other Troops once the probationary period was over in the past year.I was wondering if the ISP still assigns its troopers to specific counties like they used to in the past? When I was going thru the recruitment process the class they offered me only had Cook (old Districts 3 and 4) and Will (then in District 5), so I turned it down and took another job the following month. At the time (early 1980's) one would choose a county of assignment out of the academy based on class rank and the counties then available. One might work different patrols within that county but would usually only work within their specific county.
Do they still assign troopers to specific counties or do they free-roam a Troop (or District before the recent changes)?
Yea, all troops except Troop 3 have patrol zones for a whole county. Troopers are usually assigned to patrol zones by random, however they try to keep them near their post & home area.I was wondering if the ISP still assigns its troopers to specific counties like they used to in the past?
Since many of the Troops encompass many counties how do they do that? The Press releases I've seen and linked to, only give a number of personnel and to what Troop?Yea, all troops except Troop 3 have patrol zones for a whole county. I apologize I thought he was referring to daily patrol zones.Since many of the Troops encompass many counties how do they do that? The Press releases I've seen and linked to, only give a number of personnel and to what Troop?
