All counties also received 10 handheld and 15 mobile 800Mhz digital radios as well as a "PSAP" radio for dispatch, free of charge a little over a year ago I believe.

Not entirely true. Each region submitted their own projects for the use of the money, and each region did things a little differently. Pretty much each region did provide a PSAP radio. South central also provided one radio to each EMS service, each hospital and each EOC. At another point they also provided funding for a couple of extra radios for each county. But never large quantities, at least in south central; region.

Good find! I certainly hope you submitted this to the database as whomever moderates listed some incorrect information about them sharing a group with Tribal Police.

Actually, until recently, they did use those talkgroups cooperatively. Jackson County is the site of two of the Indian casinos north of Topeka so, 99% of the talkgroups listed in the database for KSICS came directly from KDOT thru a freedom of information request earlier this year. (April)

There have been some additions since then of course. We will need to submit another request next spring to pick up all of the new ones we haven't discovered on our own. That is a good thought

Jackson County is in the northeast region, and to my knowledge, that's what all of the counties here received.

Northeast Region has purchased quite a few subscriber units for its member counties over the years. Every county handled them a bit differently, and they were given out in even numbers regardless of county size (e.g. urban Shawnee County received the same number of radios as rural Doniphan County). Some emergency managers kept control of all the radios in a "cache" they can distribute in emergencies- or doled them out one to an agency. In at least 2 counties that I know of the radios were all given to the sheriff's officers- in many some cases it was enough to outfit them completely.

Also, I don't know if anyone has been on the KDOT radio leasing site lately- but they are now offering about 5 different brands of radios, not just Motorola- all at differing costs. Kenwood was the one that I was surprised to see offering P-25 trunking radios.

I suppose for a very small agency or one that needs a total infrastructure upgrade it would be feasible.

Fun and games on KSICS in Troop F the past couple of days. Troop F was off the air yesterday afternoon for a bit; assumed (wished?) they were rebanding the Wichita and/or Partridge towers, but they are still on the old freqs. Then this morning Butler County was having trouble, sounded like all their primary dispatch TG's and/or simulcast towers weren't working but the state PSAP and Andover area TG's off the Wichita tower seemed to be working fine. Wasn't able to listen much after mid-morning so don't know how soon it got fixed.

Shawnee county attempted a motobridge patch last week with Coffey county last week for a hazmat event they were backing them up on. They were working on the 8TAC channels but were not coming across on the digital side.

Last Night around 8 to 8:45 pm heard talk on KI SW12. It sound like there was a helicopter or fixed wing aircraft in the air talking with a Finney County EMS unit. All the talk was in the clear. They were looking for a lady that had been dumped off in the middle of a field some where close to Finney County Feeders. At first I thought the aircraft was a medivac helicopter, but I know those are equited with GPS. This aircraft was following the roads on the ground. The aircraft did not have a FLIR or night vision equitment on board. I heard it tell the ground units that it was getting too dark to see anything so they were not going to be much good any longer. I also heard them ask permission to leave the area, which was granted. They then switched channels and I never heard them again.
Anyone got any ideas on who the aircract was?

Corrections to Eskridge and Paola sites

FYI- For some reason, both the Eskridge and Paola sites are showing up in the database as 8 repeater sites. However, all the KDOT sites (exceptions are Garden City, Butler Co and Leavenworth subsystems) have 6 repeater pairs licensed & installed.

On the Eskridge site- 867.5500 and 868.9750 should be deleted

On the Paola site- 866.5500 and 866.9625 should be deleted

I submitted this as a database change today.

Actually, several sites has additional voice channels installed to cover demand. here's Partridge as of this evening:

Tower Number (Decimal): 115

Interesting. Their site license WQIB581 (KANSAS, STATE OF) FCC Callsign Details only shows 6 trunked repeater pairs at that site.

Hey all!

I'm new to the trunking scene (just got my new-to-me 2096 today). I'm in Iola, which is very close to a no-mans-land for KSICS, judging from the tower locations and 25-mile range estimates. The closest towers to here are Xenia, Buffalo, and Burlington. How accurate is that 25-mile range, ordinarily?

The 25 mile radius isn't a hard and fast rule. Everything will depend on your location, elevation and the antenna you are using. You may be able to pick up several sites if you select the right antenna and mount it properly.
