Frank & others,

Thanks for you response.

The "Chilli" file has the KCICS with the Butler County TGPs I couldn't hear.

The "I70" file also has the KCICS but focuses on TGPs along Interstate 70.

Joe

do you have these or any in win500 format? just curious to see how other's radios are programmed. thanks

New Talkgroup 4444

Today, while at work (I have a scanner in my office) I heard some traffic on a new talkgroup. It lists as TG 4444 and is apparently out of Chase County. The dispatcher was conducting an equipment test with a numbered unit in the 900's range. I didn't hear exactly what unit #, nor did I get a chance to note Radio Id's of either party. All I noticed was the TG 4444. Since that particular radio has the full KDOT coordinated template loaded, I kew it was a new TG. If anyone else hears this or other new TGs be sure to try and identify it and put in a submission on the KSICS Database page. Thanks.....

i just starting hearing some talk on here as well. the database shows it's Chase county alright. they mentioned something about "between Sycamore Street and the tracks" if that's anything helpful. don't know if they are fully switched over but i will pay attention.

Yep, it is Chase County Sheriff alright. I set it to record on my home scanner and then reviewed it each night to get an idea of the type of traffic. The confirming message was when the dispatcher said, "Chase Sheriff will be 10-6 a few minutes." One of the deputies responded, "Too much coffee?" To which the response was, "Yep."

I went ahead and submitted that as a "confirmed" talkgroup....

Speaking of which i hear them talking on there right now. So are they completely switched over now? I didn't' realize they were switching to digital so soon. sounds like a few surrounding counties are getting switched. Last I knew Emporia and or Lyon Co wasn't interested in buying all new equipment but i wonder if they will be jumping on the bandwagon as more counties do.

How long has Chase Co been on the KSICS now?

Well, they weren't on the full list I got from KDOT in mid-April and I just started hearing them last week while they were apparently "testing" out the new radios. I'm not sure they have actually completely switched. Sometimes I hear a squelch-tail on the end of a transmission. You shouldn't hear that on a digital system. I'm wondering if some of the traffic is patched thru from their analog UHF-FM system.

Also, I'm only hearing Sheriff comms, no fire or EMS. My UHF antenna isn't high enough on the tower to pick them up directly (it would need to be at the top, nearly 90 feet, at least). I'm hearing their KSICS traffic thru the Aulne Tower only right now. Surely, sometime within the last week, they would have had an ambulance or fire call.

Can you hear their UHF system from your location? 460.3000 CSSO and 453.1750 CSRFD.

I'm not sure if i'm getting them reliable at my apartment even though i have antennas outside. The apt has aluminum siding which is causing reception issues. normally i think there's plenty of activity on their channels. i'll have to pay more attention.

whereabouts are you located? if i didnt' say i'm at emporia.

I'm on the Northwest side of Newton. I've got a tower beside the house (...Ham radio, obviously) that is 88 feet to the top antenna. Normally, I run the scanners off of a omni discone at about 47 feet on an out-rigger fed with 9914 coax. I normally have a 2-meter/70-centimeter vertical at the top fed with 7/8 inch heliax hardline, but I lost that antenna last fall to lightning. I've got a replacement, just haven't had the energy to climb up and replace it this year. It's kind of an all day job. I need to do it though before winter rolls around again though....

mission tower

Does anyone know if the Mission tower is active yet? If not, any idea when it will go live?

I've never been able to pick a signal up on the control channels. Last time I tried at Shawnee Mission PKY and Metcalf a couple months ago.

I was able to document the tower control channels and site number last year at I-35 and Shawnee Mission Pkwy. Maybe the Johnson County site that shares it overpowers it on scanner receivers? It wasn't up and operating yet at that time.

Down here in Olathe where I work, I get the Mission tower loud and clear, and can't even hardly pull anything from the Leavenworth tower(s). I think the topography has something to do with it.

I don't understand how all these small agencies are affording P25 trunking units.

KDOT has a deal for local agencies to be able to "lease" the radios for 1/12 of the actual price of the radios per year. Even for a $5,000 radio that would be about $420 a year. Providing they aren't getting 30 gazillion radios, it's not too bad of a deal....

All counties also received 10 handheld and 15 mobile 800Mhz digital radios as well as a "PSAP" radio for dispatch, free of charge a little over a year ago I believe.

Good find! I certainly hope you submitted this to the database as whomever moderates listed some incorrect information about them sharing a group with Tribal Police.
